The girls are already shopping for airfare!! Gretchen and Annie would go tomorrow if I let them. I am sure we will go and Vanessa's parents have invited us whenever we can come!!

Make sure you let me know when you go. We have Norway on our list to do, but no dates yet. I want to wait until Wilson is old enough to 'get it'
The Skjerven Family farm is still there, it's a national park now. :thumbsup2

Yup

But she is not lost, she is just far away physically. I bet you and she will make arrangements to get together in person as well as by computer.

Jan :earsgirl:

Yes, I really agree. Over the last few weeks as I have been thinking about her leaving, I kept thinking that the computer just won't be the same....

She would sit down on the couch, just like my kids, and put her head in my lap. We could talk about anything....and I loved answering her questions. She really grew over the last year.

Even Daniel cried this morning.

We all, Don, Me, Daniel, Vanessa, Annie, Gretchen, Frank (Don's dad) and Goldie went to Starbucks together this morning for one last meal together. We sat outside and enjoyed our meal. Then we dropped Daniel Annie and Don off at church for a retreat and then off to the airport.

:offtopic:

What do people have planned for the 4th of July?

We are talking about seeing the Giants vs Dodgers (boo hiss) at SF and then heading to the USS Hornet based at Alameda for fireworks over the Bay.:thumbsup2

The exchange group gave her a very stupid fight home with lots and lots of layovers. Dulles to Newark. 5 hour layover. Newark to Frankford. 5 hour layover. Frankford to Olso.

Well United would not let Vanessa board this morning. Long Long sad story....but we ended up getting her on a SAS flight that left at 5pm instead of noon. She gets to Oslo 4 hours sooner. Dulles to Copenhagen. 1 hour layover. Copenhagen to Oslo. Home at 9am....(3am our time) She will be home in less than 6 hours now.....so much better!!

Her best friend and I sent a huge bunch of flowers to be delivered tomorrow. For the next several months, until the swing of school at home gets going again for her, it will be a busy time.

I will miss her, but I am much much better now.

I know how much you are going to miss her! But, it is so long and not goodbye.

The gentleman standing a couple people to the right of Mickey's steering wheel and labelled "Tom".....Isn't that DVC Mike? :confused3

That meal will be a WONDERFUL MEMORY for all of you. ::yes::

Not a thing here. I'm going to enjoy having a Friday off work. Despite meaning a shorter paycheck, I'm very happy to have a shorter work week! :yay:

We hopefully will be at Bethany Beach watching fireworks over the ocean!!

Deb, thanks for giving me Webster's name. Did I get the names of your turtles right?

Yup, it's Webster for John's baby.....and although I do have a squirt and a crush turtle.....they stayed home. I brought cozy.....the big guy and squishy the little one on top of cozy. They usually travel with me because they make good blankets and pillows when you need a cat nap and you're traveling.

How's the legs today?

Better today, thanks Jan. Back to using all the doctor's methods again and I do see some improvement. Thanks for asking.

Jan :earsgirl:

You know Jan, when we saw you at the picture taking and elsewhere......we were always right in the middle of some activity or another. We didn't have time to just sit and do nothing and talk.

I feel like we have so much time to get to know each other on these boards and then when we got together, we were running by a schedule everyday and didn't have the time like we do here. This was my first cruise as a DISer. We'll have to fix that for the next DIS cruise.

Nan and Deborah,

Have you ever seen this: http://www.indigo.org/rainbowbridge_ver2.html

It's beautiful, but be sure you have tissue handy.

Thanks for that link, Cheri.

I don't think I posted it on the boards (though some people know), that Acoma Kitten didn't make it till I got home from the cruise. She basically just stopped eating and tried to hide in the neighbors yard. After a couple of calls with the vet they agreed to go ahead and release her without waiting for me to get back. I HAD left instructions with the vet that Peg had total authority to do whatever was necessary while I was gone, but they did give her a bit of greif about it. I was so sorry Peg had to deal with that.

She had 18 great years with us. I still expect to see her when I get up from my computer, as she always napped in the craft room under the table while I was DISing.

.

Oh Jackie, I'm so sorry.

Our Aug cruise is a 7 day mexican on the Carnival Pride. The Pride was the ship that was docked next to us when we were in PV.
We do have a dummy date booked for Dec 09 with the plan to move it when the 2010 schedule is announce. Tortola would be fun, but I need longer to save up.:lmao:

Hey V.. if you and Bubba see the Magic along the way.. try not to jump ship... she'll be on her way back to PC and if you do manage to sneak on board... bring extra undies... it's a 2 week cruise and remember what the laundry rooms were like...;)

That's awful! Why not?

Woody

Well, They said she should have a paper ticket and we had documents saying she had an e-ticket. So they said we had to go to the problem resolution area and waited about 45 minutes for soemone to help us. When someone finally helped us, they told us they could not help us, that we had to go to Luftansia (sp?) airline as they were the airline that issued the ticket.

We went to Luftansia and they said no....only United could help us. Well at that point I LOST MY TEMPER (thhe flight had already taken off by then) and
I gave a United management a real piece of my mind like I have not done in a long time.

She told me to wait 1 minute and she brought over an agent who said "I am the nice one and I will help you" Well, that was music to my ears.

She got us the awesome flight and we just had to wait till afternoon for her to take off......

Real nightmare.

Losing a life long pet like this is so difficult. I am so sorry.

Isn't it a shame that in order to get people to do the right thing it so often comes down to having to make a scene? I've had my own experiences with that. Good for you for persisting! It sounds like it worked out better anyway, in that she'll have a quicker, less convoluted flight home. Just the wear and tear on your nerves...although maybe it ended up being a way for you to release all your emotion over the separation!

The gentleman standing a couple people to the right of Mickey's steering wheel and labelled "Tom".....Isn't that DVC Mike? :confused3

Could be...someone earlier said it was Tom/ThreeBrits. I don't know either one of them so I can't say. Anyone know? Isn't Heather/ThreeBrits your friend who got so sick? There's a woman to the right of this guy that hasn't been identified yet. I was wondering if she is the wife of whoever the guy is.:confused3

I'll be dog-sitting Bobby (who is out of her diapers, thank goodness!) up here where it's cool(er) while my sis and her family go to Wisc. for a family reunion. There's always big doin's up here for the 4th--parade, rodeo, art show, fireworks, GOBS of people, drinking, etc. I'll probably go watch the fireworks somewhere. Other than that, nothing planned. Oh yes, most likely I'll see the Will Smith movie (Mr. 4th of July!:lmao: )

Glad you survived this ordeal. No wonder airlines are losing money.

OK, some questions:
  • Do I have Rafael & Estrella identified correctly?
  • Which son is which (Steve)?
  • Which daughter is which (Ken)?
  • "Piratepoint"--name? (behind Marilyn)
I've put "?" on people still not identified.

Please check & see if I have names spelled correctly and on the right person!

DisPicture-3.jpg

Estrella is the little girl sitting to my right between Olivia and me. She was really cute. She just chattered away in Spanish and dummy me had no idea what she was saying.:) Shaelyn is on the floor in front of Ken and Shannon is holding Kaleigh.

Jackie, I am so sorry to hear this. One of our 5 cats got out while we were gone and has not come back. He was an indoor cat so it is hard telling what may have happened. I keep looking for him to appear on our door step, though. We miss him, especially Mickey. And I think it was Texastwins but I can't remember her name.

Ironic addition to the pet-loss situation:

I just got off the phone with a friend of mine who moved to Chicago several years ago. When he lived here, he got a dog; her name was Josie. She was a border collie mix, the sweetest dog! Whenever he would go home to visit his family in Chicago I'd dog-sit her. I kept her over Christmas several years in a row for 3-4 weeks. I'd take her down to my mom's when I'd go there and my mom loved her, too. So he called to tell me she died today. She was over 13 years old, had congestive heart failure. I was very touched that he called me.

I told him about what had been discussed on the boards today and I'm going to send him the Rainbow Bridge link. I still think of and dream about the little dog I had from the mid 70's to around '92. Just a little mixed breed, from the humane society--Spike was his name. I had to have him put to sleep when he was 15+. I really believe our pets are going to be there for us. Even Allison DuBois says so!
