Holly, tell Tyler that we DO have the bedroom semi DCL cabin. We have the A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes sign up and the ship's clock. The shape and coziness of the bedroom felt like the ship cabin to us when we first walked in.
I'll tell him when I see him tomorrow. He'll get a kick out of that.

He thought of Dennis a few days ago. He was looking at the little bobble head snail and told me "Dr. Hug gave me this in the elevator. He's a good guy." ;)

A friend sent this to me by e-mail today. She had no idea we were going to a funeral today and I am going to calling hours for another tomorrow.

I have read this several times and each time it makes my smile and cry at the same time. And, like Wayne, I know what Sally meant.

THE OLD PHONE ON THE WALL

When I was quite young, my father had one of the first telephones in our neighborhood. I remember the polished, old case fastened to the wall. The shiny receiver hung on the side of the box. I was too little to reach the telephone, but used to listen with fascination when my mother talked to it.

Then I discovered that somewhere inside the wonderful device lived an amazing person. Her name was 'Information Please' and there was nothing she did not know. Information Please could supply anyone's number and the correct time.

My personal experience with the genie-in-a-bottle came one day while my mother was visiting a neighbor. Amusing myself at the tool bench in the basement, I whacked my finger with a hammer, the pain was terrible, but there seem ed no point in crying because there was no one home to give sympathy.

I walked around the house sucking my throbbing finger, finally arriving at the stairway. The telephone! Quickly, I ran for the footstool in the parlor and dragged it to the landing. Climbing up, I unhooked the receiver in the parlor and held it to my ear. 'Information, please' I said into the mouth piece just above my head.

A click or two and a small clear voice spoke into my ear.

'Information.'

'I hurt my finger...' I wailed into the phone, the tears came readily enough now that I had an audience.

'Isn't your mother home?' came the question.

'Nobody's home but me,' I blubbered.

'Are you bleeding?' the voice asked.

'No,' I replied. 'I hit my finger with the hammer and it hurts.'

'Can you open the ice box?' she asked.

I said I could.

'Then chip off a little bit of ice and hold it to your finger,' said the voice. After that, I called 'Information Please' for everything. I asked her for help with my geography, and she told me where Philadelphia was. She helped me with my math.

She told me my pet chipmunk that I had caught in the park just the day before, would eat fruit and nuts.

Then, there was the time Petey, our pet canary, died. I called, Information Please,' and told her the sad story. She listened, and then said things grown-ups say to soothe a child. But I was not consoled. I asked her, 'Why is it that birds should sing so beautifully and bring joy to all families, only to end up as a heap of feathers on the bottom of a cage?'

She must have sensed my deep concern, for she said quietly, ' Wayne always remember that there are other worlds to sing in.'

Somehow I felt better.

Another day I was on the telephone, 'Information Please.'

'Information,' said in the now familiar voice. 'How do I spell fix?' I asked.

All this took place in a small town in the Pacific Northwest . When I was nine years old, we moved across the country to Boston . I missed my friend very much. 'Information Please' belonged in that old wooden box back home and I somehow never thought of trying the shiny new phone that sat on the table in the hall. As I grew into my teens, the memories of those childhood conversations never really left me.

Often, in moments of doubt and perplexity I would recall the serene sense of security I had then. I appreciated now how patient, understanding, and kind she was to have spent her time on a lit tle boy.

A few years later, on my way west to college, my plane put down in Seattle . I had about a half-hour or so between planes. I spent 15 minutes or so on the phone with my sister, who lived there now. Then without thinking what I was doing, I dialed my hometown operator and said, 'Information Please.' Miraculously, I heard the small, clear voice I knew so well.

'Information.'

I hadn't planned this, but I heard myself saying, 'Could you please tell me how to spell fix?'

There was a long pause. Then came the soft spoken answer, 'I guess your finger must have healed by now.'

I laughed, 'So it's really you,' I said. 'I wonder if you have any idea how much you meant to me during that time?'

I wonder,' she said, 'if you know how much your calls meant to me. I never had any children and I used to look forward to your calls.'

I told her how often I had thought of her over the years and I asked if I could call her again when I came back to visit my sister.

'Please do', she said. 'Just ask for Sally.'

Three months later I was back in Seattle . A different voice answered, 'Information.'

I asked for Sally.

'Are you a friend?' she said.

'Yes, a very old friend,' I answered.

'I'm sorry to have to tell you this,' she said. 'Sally had been working part-time the last few years because she was sick. She died five weeks ago.'

Before I could hang up she said, 'Wait a minute, did you say your name was Wayne ?'

'Yes.' I answered.

'Well, Sally left a message for you. She wrote it down in case you called. Let me read it to you.'

The note said, 'Tell him there are other worlds to sing in. He'll know what I mean.'

I thanked her and hung up. I knew what Sally meant.
OH my gosh, that's so sweet. Made me weepy. What perfect timing too!

The husband spoke for a while after the Pastor. I was amazed that he did not cry. He talked about how some people had known her as a friend, some as a sister, some as a neighbor, etc.

At the end he asked everyone to write memories of her for him to share with the kids in the future. Also, anyone who knew her saw them out in the future, please come up and tell the kids how they knew their Mother and what they remember about her so that the kids will keep those memories.

I thought those were two good ideas because sometimes people do not know if they should talk about the person who died and here he was ASKING them to do it ANY TIME in the future. Wise man.

What a thoughtful dad. Very great ideas. :goodvibes

Kathe, I know what you mean it and exactly same with me grieve for my mum and dad. They died when I was young. At that times my brother and I couldn't talking about it. And we couldn't talk about Cancer which they died of.

Now my brother and I opened up about our grieves. When my son born, I cried for my mum.

I see that you said that it was harder for your family. Sometime life so cruel.

Scottishwee35

 So sorry Deborah. It is so hard on kids. Special times when we expect parents to be there and they are not are so difficult. I hope you had friends and other family who could be with you for those times.

Lisa, best wishes for Frank's surgery.

What a great opportunity for your girls, doing the mission work. I look forward to getting Tyler involved in something with our church when he's a bit older. They currently don't do anything with kids his age.

Enjoy the beach this weekend!

The Disney Magic cruise ship returned to the Port of Los Angeles this morning (May 25), making it easier than ever for guests residing in Southern California to experience Disney Cruise Line’s highly popular seven-night cruises to the Mexican Riviera. The ship is on the West Coast for a limited engagement, sailing just 12 cruises this summer. The ship is scheduled to sail back to Port Canaveral, Fla. on Aug. 17.
What a beautiful sight! :goodvibes

OK, one more time, where is Bobby Banana's thread again? I'm doing a photo book on Kodak.com for Tyler with all of his pics with Bobby and I think there are some there that I don't have. Thanks! :thumbsup2

Not caught up from last night yet, but wanted to fill you all in on my latest adventure.

I was in a car accident last night on the way home from work. Got hit by a red light running, DUI, hit and run dude. Rolled my car and I got up and walked away from the accident! SOMEONE was watching out for me, that's for sure. REMEMBER TO WEAR YOUR SEAT BELTS! The police did get the guy...he fled the car on foot but, I believe, walked back (I'm thinking in his state he panicked, then realized what he was doing.) I just have one bruise on my right hip area...from my seat buckle I think. Either that or my PassPorter flew around and hit me there.

I'm expecting I'll be pretty stiff tomorrow, that's for sure. Funny thing...my right hip and leg that had been bothering me all week....feels fine. I must have gotten a chiropractic adjustment in the tumble! :lmao:

The police woman who was with me through the whole process said I was so lucky that she wanted to go in a lottery ticket with me.

.....see, I just knew I should have stayed on the DIS a little bit longer yesterday evening......

OK, back to catch up .......

.

Deborah... they have it on Itunes... search for it under Disney Cruise or Season of Disney... it cost I think $1.99 - it's the whole show without commercials... 42 minutes long I believe...

PLEASE GO AND GET CHECKED... PLEASE...

Remember this Disney digital picture frame that was posted a while back on sale at Target?

http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=208877&cm_ven=COMPARISON%20SHOPPING&cm_cat=NEXTAG&cm_pla=DATAFEED->PRODUCTS&cm_ite=1%20PRODUCT&cm_keycode=92&om_keycode=92

I loaded it last night for Molly.

Here's my take:

First: It didn't have the Tinkerbell frame. It came with Hannah Montana and Another princess type that had "fairest of them all" wording on it

Next: It's easy to load, drag and drop technology. Came with some pre-loaded pictures that I did delete a few of. (Cars is not her thing) Loading new pictures was easy.

The quality of the screen isn't that great. If I bought this retail at ~$79.99 I would be disappointed, but on sale at $29.99 it was an ok deal. They still have them in stock at Target, not on sale.

Jan thanks for letting us know about the sale on them
