Ways to help grieving family?

Thanks for all of the advice and ideas! We are several hours away but will definitely remember to check in w/her regularly & see about visiting again. Her DS is old enough to mow but we'll check on other maintenance items we could help with.

I will be bringing some containers, storage bags, markers & some grocery & paper essentials. We'll try & find out the kids' fav foods while we're there & put some things in the freezer for them.

Lots of great suggestions already!

Here's something else you might be interested to do, even from your home after visiting. Or, if you can pass along this website to someone local to the family, they may take on the task.

I just recently learned about a website ( http://www.TakeThemAMeal.com/ ) that is designed to arrange for food to be brought in, during just such times of need. If you have access to contact info for more of their friends, you can email the website to them to sign up for what they'd like to bring in and when (even for a couple months out).

This way, people can spread out the time frame, so the family is not overwhelmed with food now and then forgotten. And hopefully, by seeing what others are bringing, it won't all be the same thing! A cousin of mine has used the sister-site ( http://www.PerfectPotluck.com/ ) to arrange our family reunion in a couple weeks. Very helpful!

I'm glad that cjlvsccm mentioned the website: Take Them a Meal. It's exactly what I was thinking. I have taken meals to families in need via that website & it's nice because the moderator (whoever sets it up) can choose the dates. The 2 that I participated in requested meals 3 times a week which seemed to work well for the families. Also, the website sends out an email reminder a few days ahead of time.
