Found a little snake on my patio this evening when he came out of a hole under the patio that is usually a frog home. There was a large toad near the hole so I'm thinking that the snake was just passing through. He was just a baby but I still handled him with extreme care since I had no clue what type he was/is. I'm in NW FL if that helps any. He had a little reddish tint to his head and "neck" area and when we first tried to catch him he puffed out the sides of his neck a little bit. I tried figuring out what he was via Google but after five minutes all of the snakes started to look alike. We did release him towards the back of the lot so he wasn't harmed other than being a little ticked. I don't have a problem with snakes if I know what type it is.

TIA

It looks like a juvenile Eastern Hog Nosed snake. They are non venomous - and they do eat frogs/toads.

I don't know about snakes, but that one is really cute. Great capture, too, with the camera!

I wonder if you'll be sorted into Slytherin in Pottermore, with your affinity for snakes. ;)

Well look at you.:thumbsup2

Whether you are right or wrong....I'm impressed.

Hi Kevin - I thought you were in London! I sent my list of London places (mostly chocolate and food, but that's my thing) to your e-mail address (and John's and Pete's and Walter's). If you like the Talenti gelato, you will LOVE Amorino!! Have a great time!!

I saw that. Thank you!!

We leave Wednesday afternoon.

Couldn't resist recording one last podcast before the trip? ;) Have a great time! I can't wait to hear all about it! If you're traveling outside of London and see a ShakeAway shop, check out the menu. I'm the George who invented the George milkshake. :cool2:

Thanks for the info. I'm a bigger fan of frogs so I'm not feeling to bad about relocating the little guy farther away from the frog house.

Ding-ding-ding! We have a winner!:thumbsup2
Of course, I'm gonna continue to treat every snake I come across as a dangerous snake. Run 1st, ask ID Qs later. :scared1:

Awwwww- he's kind of cute!

Cute and snake are two words that I can really never link together.

I saw one about that size when I was walking out of work the other night and that walk became a run...snake is the only thing that can make this fat broad run these days.

I don't know much about snakes but I do know if they have a triangle shaped head they are poisonous. In this area the only poisonous snake we have are rattlesnakes, so I'm always checking for a triangle head and a rattle tail. Every once in a while we will see a black, white, and red snake in our yard. Poisonous or not, I don't want to get bitten so I don't touch.

Just a disclaimer for general safety, while that's a good rule of thumb in the U.S., it's not completely trustworthy.

Good to know! I always error on the side of caution. I wouldn't touch one anyway, but if I see a triangle head, then I definately stay clear because in our area, that would be a rattlesnake. I also was never sure if baby rattlesnakes maybe don't have as clearly defined heads. :confused3

The California Academy of Science in San Fransisco is currently having an interesting exhibit of snakes and other reptiles.

:lmao: Made me laugh out loud! :rotfl:

Was the bandaid applied after handling the snake?

Lol. Nope, I just got my finger a little too close to an iron the day before. I'm sure that little guy couldn't have even opened his mouth that wide.
