I found a cyst on my dog's back. I took him to the vet and they want to charge an outrageous amount to remove it. :( It's very small (size of a blueberry) and squishy - I've been told by a friend her dog has something similar and it just went away. Anyone have any a pet with a cyst? what did you do?? :( this dog is like the 2nd child I never had :( I can't imagine anything bad happening to him, he's only 6 yrs old. thanks for reading!

I can't remember what vet charged to remove cyst, but my dog had one on his neck, and it kept opening up and discharge. Wasn't going away, so we finally had it removed. Maybe phone some other vets in the area if you think your vet is over-charging? Good luck.

My dog had cysts as did and still does my cat. My Vet aspirated them to be sure that they were just benign cysts...I don't remember that being terribly costly..IMO..better to be safe than sorry.:confused3

Thanks guys. I will get another opinion and price tomorrow - my current vet want to charge me $416 for removal.

If it's benign..leaving it alone isn't a problem. A simple aspiration should guide them towards that diagnosis. I waited while my Vet checked out what he removed under a microscope. It was pretty simple and not expensive..that I know. Good luck..more often than not it is nothing but a cyst!:thumbsup2

It cost me 120$. it was also on the neck, the size of a small pea.

Boy, did it scared me!

We had a rescue dog once who had a cyst on him - we had made an appointment and the vet told us to come in, but that the cyst would likely "vent" on its own - it did so about two weeks later and we had some toothpaste consistency gel-like smelly substance that was released. The cyst healed and went back to normal. My vet told me that they can tell from the appearance of the cyst whether they are harmful.
