I did end up buying the Kodak Easyshare off of Amazon.
It was a camera plus a orange float strap package for just under $70 and free shipping. I bought a $10 camera bag from Target and a $15 memory card. Just a note - bring the camera with you when you buy a camera bag! I could only find two that fit the camera because it is not entirely 'flat'. The camera is just a bit bigger and heavier than my usualy digital camera but not by much at all - it is still small! There is no view lens but the picture on the back of the camera to see what you are looking at is great - even a better picture than my regular digital camera. I am impressed with how easy it is to work the camera - JUST what I wanted since this camera will be used by me (who is NOT a photographer) and my young kids. My son took this to the zoo for his school field trip and he took fabulous looking photos and videos (he's 9!)
I have not used this in water yet so I'm sorry I can't give feedback on that but so far, I am really pleased with this purchase. It was a very inexpensive camera and so far has all the features I was looking for.
As I get more photo savvy, I may end up buying a nicer waterproof camera but I'll see how this one goes! Thanks for all of the suggestions and feedback!
