This might sound like a dumb question...

Do you have to know how to swim to enjoy the water parks?
DH cannot and our 6 & 3 don't either. I would be the only
swimer. Is this safe?

I took my kids when they didn't swim (neither does my DH). It was not a problem. The slides and kid's area are shallow. The lazy river is not deep ( maybe 3 ft.) and I had the youngest wear swimmies on her arms. Just watch them close around the wave pool. My kids love the water parks more than anything else in Orlando.

If you are really worried, you can get a life vest when you go in. You have to give a CC# but they don't charge you for it after you turn it back in. You will have a great time even if you don't swim. Both water parks have lots of areas that aren't deep. Even the water after coming down a slide isn't very deep (it would be over your 6 & 3 yr. old heads though). The kids would love any of the children's areas. There's a place to play in sand, wade in water, and just play. We have always loved the water parks and I've took my children as young as 2 yrs. :earsgirl:

Thanks for the input.

Do they let you bring your own life jacket for the kids?

I'm not sure about that. I've never seen anyone come into the park with a life vest on. You could call and ask before you went if you felt safer with your own though. I do know they will NOT let you wear a face mask, but you can wear the goggles for your eyes.

You cannot bring your own life vest, but the vests Disney supplies are easy and convenient to use. My beloved son used them for a couple of years, and I never had a worry about his safety.

Children really do not have to be swimmers to enjoy the water parks. My son has enjoyed them every year since he was 6 mo. old, and it was mostly a matter of going down the slides before him (when he was around 3 or 4) and waiting at the bottom for him to slide down, keeping a close eye on him in the Lazy River when he wanted to float 'by himself' rather than being in a tube that Mom held on to, and giving him the freedom to play at Blizzard Beach's Ski Patrol Training Camp.............with mom waiting at the bottom when he splashed down.

Disney is so family friendly in their parks that you truly can enjoy the water parks without fretting too much. :)

I'm not a fantastic swimmer myself, but most of Typhoon Lagoon is pretty shallow. The only thing is, I would be careful around the wave pool. The big waves are something like 10 feet high and they can really knock you off your feet. It can be scary for someone who doesn't swim very well or is afraid of the water (like me!)

Big caution in the main pool with the big wave at Typhoon Lagoon. If you are not careful or are not a swimmer, you can have your knee or elbow skinned on the rough pool bottom. Even the area two feet deep can batter you around.

Humbug bleeding sore that lasts a few days. Your DS or DD does not need you screaming at him/her to be careful with the car upholstery, bedding, your clothes when sitting next to him,. etc.
