Water Parks in January

Hi all, I was thinking of planning a trip to Disney World in the first part of January. I was wondering if the water parks are even open on those dates and if the weather would allow for a good time at the parks. I have searched boards and not found anything so I hope I am not repeating someone else. Thank you.

Generally one is open and the other closed...someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Blizzard Beach is the one open in January.

I've taken several trips in January and it's never been consistently warm enough to want to spend a day at the waterpark. A dip in the pool...sometimes. January does have the occasional warm spell though so anything is possible.

Hi,

Storminator is right, one is closed in January. In 2004 and 2005 it was TL, but in 2003 it was BB. Who knows what the logic is there?

We went in 2004. I didn't set a day for water parks (well I put on weight and I didn't wanna be seen in a bathing suit). But it was really cold (40s or 50s). Umm... but in January of 03 it was in the 80s. You will just have to wait and see if it will be weather permitting.

FYI. I would add the water parks to your tickets after you are there and know the weather. I was predicted to be in the 70s the whole time we were there, until we got there.

We go every year and January...and ususally it's wayyy to cold. Last year wasn't too bad, but the year before that we were in sweaters, coats, hats, and gloves....It just really depends.

The park that is in rehab during that timeframe can be either one. Just watch the boards for advance notice of which it will be in a given year.

Most of the time-- the weather isn't nice enough for the waterparks in January. We've gone several times in the first week of February. Being from the North- we still thought it was too cold to swim everytime. We've found we have to get almost to March to start seeing swimming weather in WDW.

I have gone to water parks in January on three different trips, and always enjoyed it. I would only go if the air temp hits at least 70 degrees, otherwise I thought it would be too cool. I love going in January, because the lines are non-existant! I love swimming and riding the waves in the pool at TL and never running into anyone! I remember my feet would actually be aching and sore from going up the stairs repeatedly over and over to ride the slides! It was pretty sparse crowd-wise, of course! Most people there were English or from the northern USA. It does get nippy if the wind is blowing, but overall I really love going in January. :)

I believe if the weather is predicted to be too cold, the water park won't open at all, which makes sense. One time when I was there, all the lifeguards were being told the water park would be closed the next day, since the predicted high was about 55.

I also think that how much you enjoy going in January depends on where you are from - Southerners would never consider it, yet many Northerners welcome an opportunity to swim! :teeth:
