I've got REALLY bad uncorrected vision so spending the day without my glasses is NOT an option. What do you do with your glasses at the water parks?

Do you wear them on all the slides? I've worn mine on the lazy river type rides and in TL's wave pool when I wasn't going under. If you take them off, where do you leave them or do you have something to carry them in when you go on the slides??

We were at BB and TL last week and basically I just used my glasses for the wave pools and kept them at our chairs for the slides. My wife's vision is worse than my own and we were able to navigate around well enough without glasses. I didn't witness any great solutions while there. Some people had straps that would hold their glasses on. The only suggestion I would make would be that you take an older or back up pair of glasses with you if you decide to take them on the slides and use a strap... either that or invest in contacts or prescription goggles (probably not worth it.).... steve c

Blind as a Bat without my glasses. Would never think of taking them off and walking around the water parks. Besides walking into everything and everyone I would miss all the great Disney Magic in the sites.

If I am diving into water, I fold my glasses and hold them in one hand and put them right back on when I surface. If they are tight enough on your face not to come of on a looping roller coaster they are usually OK in the water. You can always get those straps that go around the glasses arms and your neck to secure them a little more.

The only water ride that you definitely cannot wear them on is Summit Plummet, but who would want to anyway. It really helps NOT to see what's happening next on this ride. I had a hat and glasses on the walk up to the summit. They had me take both off. I wrapped my glasses in my hat, crossed my arms and legs like they said and I was off (SCREAMING). Can't imagine what I would have done if I could have seen what was ahead of me. LOL

dh has prescription goggles.

i would NOT wear my glasses on any ride where you end up in a big pool at the end. in nov 2001 we were at bb and the guy behind me on the individual tube ride (i forget what it is called) lost his glasses and didn't have a back up. they never found them and they wouldn't shut down the ride for him. i don't know if that is usual or not, but it scared me.

Some or most of the water slides pumps are connected together, so turning one off would close down a few rides. The most that can be done during the day is having someone in management come down to the catch pool for you and swim under water with goggles for you to see if they can see them. If they cant, you have to wait until the park closes in order for them to research the pool for you (since there is a current in most catch pools, it could be anywheres in the water).

So if you do deside to wear them, bring an extra pair and/or wear a strap to keep them on your head.

I only wear contact lenses for this type of activity, because I have cateracts and contacts don't correct that well for it.....

but for outdoor sports, disposable contact lenses are they way to go.... also, they come in colors, so if one drops out, they're easier to find.

I bought mine a while ago, but were $1 / pair for a day...

Just an idea.

Thanks for all the ideas and warnings! I definitely would NOT want to lose my glasses while on vacation. They have such a strong prescription that replacements take forever to get.

Not sure what I'll do - if anyone has any more ideas, please post them. I'm sure I'm not the only one with this problem.

There are probably not any more different ideas than the ones already presented. As a glasses wearer for 35 years (no contacts due to allergies), I recommend the strap that attaches to the earpieces of your glasses. Get the one for sports that keeps your glasses snug to your head, not the loose cord that allows your glasses to rest around your neck. And if you are still worried, use an older pair of glasses for the waterpark, keeping the newest pair in a locker or swim bag in case something goes wrong.
