Are the private umbrellas spaced around the park like the cabanas are or are they located in just 1 area? Going to both water parks so info on both would be greatly appreciated.

We rented an umbrella at Typhoon Lagoon in May, and it was such a great buy! The umbrellas are located in the same areas as the cabanas. In our area, there were three umbrellas and 3 cabanas. There is plenty of space between, so you and your family have your privacy.

Our umbrella was #24, which we were told by a CM was the best umbrella in the park...he was right! It was in a roped off area (had to have a wristband to be there), and it was on an elevated beach that overlooked the wave pool...I watched the waves roll over people and relaxed in seclusion. The other umbrellas in that area (#23 and #25) were good choices as well.

I went back and forth about renting an umbrella at TL before finally taking the plunge...best monetary decision of our trip. It provided us so much value for the $55.

Thank you, TXDisneyFan1. This will be our 3rd trip to the water parks. Last year, we came back to our chairs to find our stuff had been moved. Not only was it moved, but my towel was wet and my shorts were on the ground in the sand. After that, I told my husband we were either renting an umbrella or cabana for the next time. Looking forward to not worrying about someone touching my things this year. :goodvibes

Can you reserve these in advance or can you only do it the morning you arrive(as available)?

Oh, and how much are they?
Umbrella?
Cabanas?

Is it a good idea to book way in advance? I have a few non -park days for our upcoming trip and am not sure what day to hit a water park as of yet. Is it necessary to book in far in advance for Oct-Nov?

You should reserve early, you have to pay in advance or get there at opening. We got there yesterday at 9:30 and everything was gone except for the $400 Cabanas, we ended up near the Crush n Gusher in the shade with plenty of seating, there was a $400 Cabana next to us that had been rented. Most of the Cabanas were all rented in advance.

Another question for those who have rented a spot.

We aren't really all day beach/water park people, so just renting an umbrella might be a better option for us just to have a guaranteed spot and umbrella. However it says the spots are good for 4 people with 4 towels but it says you get 2 recliner and a table with umbrella. What about the other two people? Do they have to sit in the sand or lay their towel down or do you get an addition two regular chairs?

You get two loungers and two chairs, plus a table and good sized umbrella (and the 4 towels). In our area, there were 4-5 extra loungers in the beach area. I used one of them since there were five people in our party.

The cost was $55 plus tax. They do a good job of chasing people out of the area if they don't have the proper wristband. Several people were asked to leave when I was lounging in the shade. The cabana waiters and roaming security guards keep a close watch...love that! I felt very secure; secure enough to leave our stuff when we went to the wave pool.

I guess I don't get the point? If I just want to lay around I have a pool at the resort and I can rent a small locker or leave most stuff back the room while we are riding rides.

If you have kids is there really a difference between them running off at the park and you laying someplace vs them lockering a cell phone and you back at the resort? Either way they could get into trouble without you looking over them.

how do you pre book the umbrellas? we have always booked at the park when we came in , and last time they were all sold out by the time we got to the kiosk -- 10 minutes after opening.

we like having a known easy place to reconvene --

Wow! Thanks for your parenting advice, I didn't know this site was so valuable that I could get some awesome advice on Disney and how to raise my kids as well!

sethschroeder: I'm not a big fan of water parks, but my husband and kids are. I planned the day at TL for them. We got there, rode all the rides and stayed in the wave pool as a family. We had lunch and my husband took them back to the wave pool while I stayed behind at our umbrella. My kids were never unsupervised during out entire vacation.

Each family vacations in the way that is best for them, and it's probably different than how your family vacations. If someone wants to lay under a beach umbrella for 2 hours...good for them. If someone else wants to commando each park every day...good for them.

I am simply sharing my experience with water park umbrellas and the great value I found in them. It was great not having to get there when it opened and worry about beating people to a good spot. Or, worry about our items being moved when we leave our chairs. Also, being in a secluded area with a few other families around is a big plus....worth more than the $55 we spent.

If you disagree...good for you.

I just called the reservation number and followed the prompts until I found the person that could reserve the umbrella for us. I did it about 6 weeks before our trip, I believe. But, we went in the beginning of May, so it was not nearly as crowded as it is now.
