Can someone tell me what the water is like on Castaway Cay? I know it seems like a crazy question, but I'm usually someone who stays up on the beach,I dont like to get in murky water:laughing: I was just wondering since this is our first trip, how the water is?

Coming from someone that lives in south Louisiana and the state's only beach is near the mouth of the Mississippi (meaning that our beach looks like muddy water due to the silt being deposited from the river), all the beaches on the eastern and western cruises are crystal and clear. The only murkiness at Castaway is due to sand being kicked up in the water if you're trying to snorkel. I find the water clearer at Serenity Bay on Castaway than the family beach (at least near where you snorkel on the family beach).

In Grand Isle (our south Louisiana beach), as a child, I would wear tennis shoes in the water (since water shoes weren't invented yet) because I was afraid that crabs would grab my ankles/toes in the water. I've had NO worries in the Caribbean on cruises.

The water is nice and clear but there is a lot of weird feeling grass growing on the bottom so I always wear water shoes.

:cool1: THE WATER IS BEAUTIFUL TURQUISE COLOR , LITTLE WAVES AND BEAUTIFUL SEASHELLS ON SHORE

The sand is a little more coarse than I am used to. It is made from crushed coral, and it is beautiful, but water shoes might be a good idea if you have sensitive feet.

The water on CC really is perfect. I feel the same way about murky or cloudy water, it freaks me out a little bit;) . Here's a picture of the water from Serenity Bay, my heaven on earth!

So if I rented a float, the water is pretty calm,or is there alot of waves? Is there any sort of netting or barrier to keep out sharks or can you go out as far as you want in the water?

There are waves next to shore, but small ones. Disney built a sheltered lagoon for the family and snorkeling coves, kind of a wave break that sticks out. If you rent a float, you'll bob a little, but not much. I haven't even heard of anyone ask or talk about sharks around Castaway Cay! Although I can't say I know of them, I'm sure Disney has some kind of barrier against those, too! You can't go out as far as you want. On Castaway Cay the lifeguards are always watching the people in the water and will call to you if you do something out of bounds or go too far. Have a great trip!

There are lifeguards even out in the water on stands. I hate the water, but the water here is gorgeous. The sand is a bit coarse so you definitely need shoes on the beach. I felt like I got a pedicure after leaving.

The perfect day is a float, a bahama mama, and serenity bay.( don't forget the sun screen) I do wear water shoes, I don't like stepping on weird feeling plants or shells.:cheer2: :cheer2:

I think I will get water shoes.

My kids won't wear water shoes. Has anyone wore crocs in the water before? I know you have to be careful not to loose them, but I have wore then at beaches before. :thumbsup2

I also used to be someone who loved to look at the beach but never get in the water. My DH and I went to Cancun years ago and although it was beautiful, I felt gross after getting out of the water. For some reason, I did not feel gross at all after getting out of the water at CC. I couldn't even tell it was saltwater until my snorkeling mask filled with water and I about choked to death.:lmao:

I did wear crocs last year and did okay with them. I brought crocs for my daughter, but we ended up buying her actual water shoes because we were afraid she would lose her crocs.

I think I will take their old pair to wear on the beach (they are bit smaller too) and save the cute mickey ones for everything else!) After all you can't just have one pair of crocs right? ;) Thanks.

The water is a pretty light green color!:goodvibes A bit of a dark blue when it gets deeper.;) I'm one who hates murky water now and I absolutely LOVED the water on every island we went to.
The picture on the left of my signature is a picture of my sister and I in the waters of the family beach on CC.:goodvibes

My daughter is 9,she has seen pictures of this play area built into the water. Can someone tell me about it?
