Will my 15 yo DS be able to rent watercraft at POR? We did this a few years ago before the rule change at the Contemporary & had a blast. He'd love to do this again if possible. If Mom has to drive I guess he'll live. :rolleyes1

Thanks!!

They do have the water mice and other boats at POR, but my understanding is that you must be 16 to operate the boats alone. If you are over 12 you can operate the boat if a licensed driver is in the boat
This is from the Disney website:
*************
Guests must be at least 12 years old and at least 5 feet tall to drive a Sea Raycer. At Magic Kingdom® area resorts, at least one person in the boat must have a valid driver's license. There is a maximum combined weight of 320 lbs permitted for a Sea Raycer, or 2 passengers. All drivers under the age of 18 MUST have a parent or legal guardian sign a release.

Drivers of canopy or pontoon boats must be 18 years of age. Drivers must provide ID with birth date in order to drive certain watercraft.

I think the age 16 is only for the Magic Kingdom resorts. Other resorts was still 12 last I heard.

When I was there last October I was told that it was only the Magic Kingdom resorts where you must be 16.

Don't rent the water mice at POR. They are so slow you can about fall asleep driving them. I wasted my money on them last summer and will rent at a MK resort next time.

This seems to have been relaxed a bit since last easter you had to be 16 and hold a valid drivers license in order to be on your own around Seven Seas Lagoon area.

Not really, just a different phrasing. Since I can't think of any state that will issue a full driver's license (as opposed to a learner's permit) at any age younger than 16, and since at least one person in the boat must have a valid drivers license, it stands to reason that someone would have to be at least 16, and have a valid driver's license to be alone in the boat.

:wave2: In other words, my 15 y.o. will be able to drive at the MK resorts if a licensed driver over 18 will be with him in the boat - am I reading that right?

Thanks

Everyone is makes renting boats waaaaay too complicated. Here's the deal--
ALL of the marinas rent Sea Raycers by Sea Ray boats. There's no difference between one resort and another. The water mice are gone.

In order to rent a Sea Raycer, you must be 18 and present a WDW resort ID or valid drivers license. In order to drive a Sea Raycer you must be at least 12 years old and a minimum of 5' tall. At the MK resorts there has to be someone with a valid drivers license in the boat--they don't have to drive, just be in the boat. Max. 2 people and/or 320 pounds in the boat.

You can boil it down to...mom or dad has to rent the boat, your 12 yr old can go by himself/herself, unless you are at MK, then you need to go with.

Do the Swan and Dolphin resorts count as WDW resorts for renting the boats? Nancy
