Water drained at POR

Stayed at POR first week of August, and all the water was drained from the artificial swamp areas at the resort (between the buildings), not the river itself. Wonder if this is permanent as any standing water can accomodate gators. Haven't seen anyone else comment on this.

I doubt it is permanent - the whole of the Sassagoula River accommodates gators. We have heard from many of the boat captains that the maintenance area for the shuttle boats is LOADED with them - pretty much anywhere the boats don't run all day.

Yep...with the Zika outbreak in Florida, I'm sure they're trying to do everything they can.

I'm gonna say it was all the scum on the top of the water. When we started going in 2012 the water was fairly clean looking. It has since developed a thick layer of green scum. I know it's suppose to be a "bayou" but I don't think the scum is very appealing.

^THIS. I think it will be in their best interest to address any possible location that mosquitoes can breed before Zika gets to Orlando. Would not be surprised if in some places, say the POR space they add "water fountains" to keep the water moving so they can keep the feature but it won't be still water.

Did not think of this. good idea. It will probably stay that way for now.

WDW is built on and surrounded by a swamp. Draining areas will have little affect on the problem.
