Water bottle misters?

Has anyone used the O2cool waterbottle/misters in the parks? Were they worth carrying them around? Considering for our August trip. thx Grammy

I bought a small one from the camping section at Walmart for about $4-5. It is about the size of a deck of cards and takes one AA battery. I forgot I had it with me for the first couple of days of my May trip, then I remembered and it was a life saver. I didn't use the misting part of it as much as just the fan.

Living in Arizona, we are quite familiar with misters. They are very effective IF there is low humidity. When the humidity is very low, the mist evaporates rapidly into the dry air. That is what cools you. However, humidity in Florida, especially in August, is very high. The fan will give you comfort, but don't think the mist will do much good there. By the way, they don't work in Arizona during the monsoon season which begins any day now, because the humidity is much higher (not as high as Florida) during the monsoon season.

Yes, it was extremely humid the first three days of my May trip. I was already wet enough from sweating! I did find the fans made the most difference when I was inside in the air conditioning, the two combined worked to cool me down faster. I sweat buckets in high humidity and if there is no air movement even if it is cool. My small size fan was perfect for easy carrying and for being a little less conspicuous that I was using a fan.

Are you talking about the one that's a drinking bottle and a mister in one? If so, then yes we used them last September. It does help momentarily while you're misting yourself and the main reason I like it is because I will be carrying a drinking bottle anyway so it's convenient to also have a mister button on it. We'll be using them again this September.

I just bought four mister fans at Walmart last week, however, I bought the smaller ones for $4. The more I thought about it I really didn't want the larger one, nor did any one else in my family, to carry in the park all day. Mine came with a clip so I have it clipped to my day pack that I plan on taking to the parks.

I agree with this. The fan part is helpful with cooing, but with the high humidity, the mister doesn't give relief at all.

If I anticipated having to wait in the sun for hours, I'd consider it. But I also find the mist mixed with humidity can worsen things. The main concern is the mist taking sunblock off. My kids loved playing with these, would mist face, the wipe the drops off. There went the sun protection!

I've seen the misters in line at ToT put out a mist that just hangs in the air because it was already so humid. This was in August. Fans are great, but the misters make things worse. You'll already be wet enough from sweat. I'd save some money and buy some fans beforehand.

We've used them before. Kids loved them, but they misted far less than the dedicated fan misters. Frankly, the best solution if you want to cool down is to get those cooling towels and just pack them in a small cooler bag with some bottled water (preferably one or two frozen from the night before to act as ice packs) ... those cooling towels are amazing, and have the added benefit of not getting everyone within 5 feet of your kids in line wet from the constant misting.

I totally disagree with the people saying the mist doesn't feel good in the high humidity. Our whole family thinks they're great. I'd much rather mist myself off then be covered in sweat. The mist feels amazing and it absolutely does cool you off.

I never found misters helpful, the humidity explanation makes sense.
Frogg Toggs are a lifesaver for me though.

Love these, the fan for sure helps and I was surprised how much the mist helped even in StL humidity. However, be careful of the fan with young kids! Despite my warnings (and their own experience!) my 3.5 yo niece held it too close to her wild curly hair TWICE and we had to spend a while untangling her. Even my 9yo DD (who I though was more sensible!) got her hair slightly caught.

I see some people comment saying they have cooling towels. I bought four Frogg Togg's also and never thought of mentioning that to the OP. I believe those cooling towels will be lifesavers for our family next month!

Well, we went to Dicks sporting good today and I got two misting waterbottles and a separate small batter operated fan that hangs on the backpack. I think the misters will have a positive mental effect even if they really make you more damp! Thanks for all the info. We will let you all know our experience with them!

We were at DTD today (95 temp and humid) walking behind someone with a misting bottle. The breeze carried some of it into our faces and it felt very refreshing even though I was pretty damp with sweat. (I thanked him for the residual cooling... )

Something I've done in the past (but haven't tried it at wdw yet - will be trying it later this week) is to dampen a wash cloth, put it in a zip-lock bag and freeze it. Even as it defrosts in my bag the cloth stays cold enough for some time to feel good when I take it out of the bag and put it on my face and neck when I get overheated.
