Someone told me that you have to download the Airplay app in order to watch tv on a SW flight but I know I did not do that last sept when I flew. Just went to southwestwifi.com & watched tv like that. So... has this changed? Do I have to download this app in order to watch tv on my flight

You can watch thru the internet browser. You only need the Airplay if you want to play a movie (for a fee).

You only need the Airplay if you want to play a movie (for a fee).
You also need the Airtime app if you want to watch the free tv shows/series. For example they have several episodes of the Big Bang Theory available to view.

So to re-cap:

Watching live TV through DirectTV is free and you only need a web browser.
Watching various stored TV shows/series is also free and requires Airtime to be downloaded before you take off.
Watching movies requires Airtime and there is usually a fee but I believe they do have a catalog of free movies through Airtime too.

I don't know what any of this is.... I downloaded swa onboard player and watch free tv thru that..... the app is free, the tv is free,I think you can buy a movie thru it too. It's literally called onboard player

You can watch a limited amount of channels free. The girls watched the Disney Channel I believe in November. But our flight in April did not offer it.
