Watching the Kids?

I ran the Princess 1/2 Marathon this year and got totally hooked on running Disney. I really want to run WDW 1/2. Now my husband wants to join me after listening to how much fun I had at the last race. Question is, if he comes (our parents are too elderly to watch the kids) is there anything anywhere that offers any kind of childcare or a viewing area that 2 kids (12 & 8) would be safe at? Otherwise, I guess my idea of ever running another Disney race is out.

disney has kids night out babysitting service but that is in room only. they don't have a service for kid whose parents are running.

it's great that your hubby wants to do a disney race too...but if it means you can't run b/c he wants to isn't that kind of unfair?

I know there are services in the area that will come to the hotel and stay with the kids in your room - Fairy Godmother's comes to mind. I suggest posting on the Families thread and ask about in room babysitting. I hope you can work it out and not have to miss the race.

Do you have a family member that might like to make the trip to support you? My friends ran the WDW marathon a few years ago. They rented a big timeshare for me, my kids and their kids. I got up early in the morning and took us all over to Epcot and caught them at all the spots. It was so much fun. They came to support me this year at the Princess. It was great not having to worry about my kids. We rented hotel rooms off property (super cheap and very nice) next door to each other. I left at 3am and then we all met up at the finish line.

Or you could arrange for sleepovers for the kids back at home. I'm having the same issue for the Savannah RnR half. My kids want to come, but I won't have a friend. Not sure what I'll do.

I was talking to a cast member last year about childcare during races (it's just me and DD). He said to write to Disney and if enough people make the suggestion they might open one of the clubs. He also said he would pass it along. Maybe if enough of us say something it might happen!

I emailed runDisney about kids and the relay for WDW Weekend, but haven't heard back. Maybe everyone should email RunDisney? This is a problem for us, too.

I just e-mailed them too as I have the same problem.

We've used Kids Nite Out several times (not for marathon weekend but I know that they are available for that). We've always had really good experiences with them. It is in-room sitting but they come prepared with activities.

We have the same problem. Most years we've brought my parents along. One year I didn't race at all (DH is Perfectly Goofy) and I really felt left out. Another year we did leave DS home with my parents for the weekend.

I would also be willing to try Fairy Godmothers or Kids Nite Out - both highly recommended by others, but pricey.

I am still trying to figure out which way we will go this year. Now that DS is 7, it's hard to get away with a Disney trip (even a weekend one) without him!

Good luck!
