Have been sorting through hundreds of photos and organizing into albums on a host site. I took a picture of the mural on the Wonder of Ariel on this last cruise. This is the message I just received:confused:

As required by law, we have deleted 1 image(s) from
your Webshots photo albums because we received notification
that the image(s) were uploaded in violation of U.S. copyright law.

The Webshots Terms of Use prohibit you from uploading photos that
you did not take or other images that you did not create unless you
have the permission of the copyright holder. The Terms of Use also
prohibit you from uploading photos featuring individuals without the
individuals' consent. This policy is designed to protect you from claims
for copyright and/or publicity rights infringements that could result in
monetary damages to you.

If we receive future notification that images in your album infringe
the copyrights of others, we may be required by law to terminate
your Webshots membership. We sincerely hope to avoid this.

Please review your album(s) and delete any photos that you
yourself did not take and any images you did not create, unless
you have the permission of the photographer or artist who created
the images.

hmm, but you took the picture right? so does that mean.... as YOU didn't create the ship, you're not allowed to take pictures of anything on it??

Jeanny :)

The differentiation is that the picture is of a picture that is protected by copyright (eg: Disney art) as opposed to something that is built into the ship (eg: the Helmsman Mickey).

Do you think someone looks thru every picture on their website?

I think it's a bot. It's a computer script that looks at all the filenames, and anything that looks copywrited gets flagged. It's the webshots site covering their end.

And Mike, I"m putting a scrapbook together (keep an eye on my tagline), I might want some shots from your set, I'll message you about it.

I did think about this as I have a tons of photos from DCL on webshots....and I did take some pics of the murals up the wall that you can see from the mid-ship elevators on the Magic. I also posted pics of the cover art from the photo sleeves....I wonder if I should delete them.

The things I was going to post about that concerned me about webshots was some of the unsavory comments that were posted to our albums in the guestbook. There were quite a few from people who were very crude and said some nasty suggestive stuff. I would warn people who post to webshots to frequently check their guestbook entries and delete any unfavorable comments. I actually erase all the comments every so often from the account.

Many guestbook entries were from the wonderful DIS'ers who have seen our album and those comments were all very positive....it was the few that sounded like they came from disgruntled/disturbed people because the comments were very insulting and immature directed toward my teens. Just wanted to give a heads up. There are alot of looneys out there who have access to your photos if you make them public. I have since made most of my albums private. I hate doing this because I know how much we all like to see each others cruise photos...it certainly helps to pass the long winter months!!!

Thanks everyone for the replies and info.:)

Thanks Mark. Looking forward to it. Hope everything is going well.:)

looks like we have to post pictures to the DisBoards only or to our own websites only... isn't there a Photo thread or Photo Album on here somewhere??? I thought I saw something along the way... if not, we should create one.

I'm not trying to sound smart, but how are we supposed to know what is or is not copyrighted? Does it say "I'm copyrighted, so don't take a picture of me"?

Most of the Dis-er's take pictures of EVERYTHING to show us what the ship looks like, etc..... and me never being on a cruise, really appreciates it, because at least now I kind of know what to expect and know what things look like.

I know copyrighting is a big issue, especially after what happened to Shari, but how is the "average" person on vacation supposed to know things like that? Maybe the copyright police should stand by. :teeth:
Jeanny :)

There's all sorts of good photo album software out there. The only hard part is finding a decent host. But if you've got any halfway decent ISP they should provide you with enough web space to host a decent amount of pictures.

Fortunately I work for a web design company and while I'm not a programmer or designer I was able to get some custom code to make my own photo album and have access to unlimited server space. :bounce:

Shari as in "Taswira"? What happened?

seems as though someone helped themselves to some of her photos and posted them on their own website without her permission...

Maybe they didn't realize what they were doing by copying them... but where she IS a professional photographer, they should have had the courtesy to ask...

Jeanny :)

Just took a look at your 7 day land/sea - oh to be there now. Thanks for a bit of a virtual vacation.

I'm probably jinxing myself, but I also have similar pictures on webshots. I wonder if it's just a random search and you were just unlucky.

Just unlucky:( Sure would like to discuss this with someone at the host but there is no physical presence there. They do not answer E-mails.

Parrotheader thanks for sharing the photos.:)

That the bots found it dosen't make much sense unless your file name is a name of something w/ a copyright. I don't know everything about copyright laws mostly in music, and if some one records my music it is a violation of copyright so it is posible that a photo of a copyrighted painting would be but everyone takes photos of art including buildings etc. I think the whole copyright law is out of control because of the web  just my 2 cents

Nice photos
:D we will be doing the land /sea in....

We tried to take a picture of the Welcome Sign to the Disney Wonder Feb. 27th Cruise after going through customs & were told we couldn't...It's just a sign where they took our groups' boarding picture. I couldn't figure out why they told us we couldn't.

If you were in the customs area that may have been the reason. Once you cross that threshhold there is no more photographs until you clear customs.

Deb

Maybe since they take a picture of everyone boarding that it has something to do with keeping the line moving. PLUS, it may also be a way to get you to purchase the photo they take.

just a though
