One of the gifts my kids and I want to get for my wife for Mother's Day is a watch to help her keep track of her walk/run intervals. She has been doing strictly treadmill workouts up until now, so she hasn't needed one, but she will be starting to do outside workouts soon.

I figured I would get real world advice from the experts here before hitting the stores. Thanks for any/all feedback!

Dan.

I love my Timex Ironman 50 lap watch that I got at Target. It has a stopwatch, count-down timer, interval timer and 3 alarms. It's easy to use and very durable, not to mention inexpensive. It also comes in some cute colors! Your DW would use the interval timer for walk/run workouts. Make sure you get the 50 lap watch; the model one step down does not have an interval timer.

So, how much were you looking to spend? If you want to go all out, Garmin 205.

I second the Timex Ironman, though. Although it won't tell you how far you've run, it will do everything else.

I ditto on Carrie. I have the Ironman watch and have used that up until recently when DH bought me a Garmin. I still use the watch when I run on the indoor track since the Garmin doesn't work in there.

Thanks for the quick responses! That was the exact watch I was checking out! Cool!

She's just getting into running so the Garmin is overkill right now. Plus, if anyone's getting a Garmin, it's me!!! (I'll let her borrow it if she wants :thumbsup2 )

I'll have to hit Target on the way home. I didn't think to check there.

Thanks!

I train with an Timex Ironman watch but I think the next time I buy it will be a Nike Watch, really cool looking styles.

All I ever use in the timer. I start it when I start and stop it when I stop. I time intervals the same way. But then I'm just a walker.

But then I'm just a walker.

Oh yeah, Dave's JUST a walker. Kinda like Mickey is JUST another mouse. :rotfl: I wish I was JUST a walker like Dave. I do believe those are speedmarks left by your shoes when you JUST walk LOL

I too have the Target Ironman that has the interval option and I think it's a great watch. I recently picked up the Garmin 101 because I wanted to know the exact distance I was going. The online tracking for my paths weren't as accurate as we wanted so I bought the Garmin. Now I know that I am getting in EXACTLY 4 miles or whatever I set my daily distance as.

Diane, I thought the same thing when I read Dave's modest post! :worship:

We know what you meant Dave! I'm just a runner, so I don't have to worry about intervals either. I usually borrow my son's cheap watch, hit the stopwatch function when I start and hit it again when I finish. I just have to make sure I pick a watch with the interval option. The timex everyone is recommending is looking good.

Thanks Everyone!!!
Dan.

Thanks guys but I'm just out there doing the best I can just like the rest of you.

Another thought for maybe later, the older Garmin 101 is pretty inexpensive now.

:scared1: Just!

Sorry, no such word here in WISH Team land.

I second Garmin, but 201 since you don't have to feed it batteries. They are listing online about $130 if you can find a sale, even better. Christmas is around the corner!
