Hi.

During my nice stay at WDW, I decided to eat my way through the World Showcase. I had a glass of wine and then decided to get a funnel cake. As I was walking towards a patio area, a seagull flew down and stole my funnel cake and took off with it. I couldn't believe it. I am sure the lady thought that I was a pig when I went back 25 sec later and got another one.

So if you are at the World Showcase and walking around with food watch where your going.

At Sea World the birds are real pests and often steal food. If that happens you should inform the place you purchased food from and ask for a replacement. Another family was very happy I told them this after a whole rack of ribs were stolen right off their plate and had no problems getting a free replacement (at Sea World). I'm sure DW would do this too.

calie_j,

Actually when I went back, I asked for a second plate and didn't have a problem since I covered it. Once I got over by the Italy are no seagulls.

When we were there in January we noticed the birds were pretty pesky. Especially where there is a walkway over a bridge that comes out over by Test Track. It is right where the bridges to World Showcase are. There is a pavilion of some sort (yes, it has a name, no, I don't know it) that looks empty. Maybe it used to be a restaurant or it is something that runs special events? Anyway, DH and DS went to use the restrooms right near there and the birds were obnoxious while I was waiting! And I didn't have any food!! A lady going by with her family said "MY! What bold birds!" She didn't have any food, either!

Definitely beware of the seagulls! :wave2:

Seagulls are nothing more than rats with wings. I don't know WHY people feed them because it just makes them brazen.

Yes....seagulls are scavengers like rats and other rodents. They also known to poop on people. I had one poop in my hair right there near Mexico in World Showcase years ago......

At the Polynesian it's not seagulls but egrets that are so annoying. They will jump right on to your table. One mom who was alone with 3 little tiny kids got mobbed by this bird and she freaked! She jumped up, tipped over her chair and was about to have a full blown panic attack. My 3 year old ran over and he chased the bird away. I felt so bad for her, some people are just phobic of birds.

On our first trip in 99 we were walking through Fantasyland by the carosuel and we had ice cream. A bird dive bombed out of nowhere and stole a whole ice cream cone. I didn't even see it coming! My DH went back and told them and they gave him another one for free. On our trip in 2004, my friend's DD was eating a churro which I split with her and the bird took it right out of her hand. Surprised the heck out of her. I gave her my other half. On our last trip, we didn't get attacked although there were a ton of birds in Adventureland where they sell the McDonald's fries. My kids really wanted to feed them but I told them not to. Some poor guy dropped half his fries in line and those seagulls had those fries picked up in a matter of seconds. I still saw other people feeding them though. You would think they would be unable to fly with all the junk food they eat. :confused3

That would have been a sight to see! :) We have had squirrels come up and sit on empty chairs at our table at Epcot while eating, but no direct bird experiences.

What about the Launching Pad in Tommorow Land, I leave with green streaks in my hair EVERY TIME I go under those trees. I swear they know I have come and dive bomb me with poop.

Oh man! I have so many bird stories and I must admit because of Disney I have kind of like a phobia of them. When we were at Fantasyland my friends and I were getting pretzels and this lady was just walking along, a hot dog in her hand and a seagull zoomed in and snatched the end off of it. She was so surprised. This was sooooooooooooooo tramatizing...this next story has sealed by fear of birds.

I was in the avery (sp) at Animal Kingdom and I was walking along pretty fast because my brother had wanted to go in. I was just walking and out of no where this bird hopped out of the bushes at me, and all I kind of saw was a flurry of flapping wings. it kind of looked like a peacock, but my bro said it was the largest pigeon. Anyways I didn't care, I screamed, "OH MY GOD!" skidded to the side almost hit a rock and ran out of the place. I swear they have it in for me.

That's so funny!

The only experiences I've ever had with seagulls are the few times we've been to a beach. I live in Pennsylvania and just about a month ago we had a snowstorm and my daughter and I saw a flock of them in a parking lot. How did they get so far off track and in a snowstorm? I didn't think they flew that far inland.

I had one of those big black crow things steal my hot dog at the pool side eatery at the Grand Floridian... Turned to get a napkin & it swooped right in....
Those birds are nasty.

I'm glad you enjoy my fear! Just kidding, my brother wouldn't stop teasing me the entire day, he kept trying to sound like me and was saying "OH MY GOD!" He's so evil. But I swear that thing was like the size of a chicken. Who wouldn't be scared if it flew out of no where! :earseek:

At MGM early one morning a young couple with two small children stopped at Starring Rolls where DW and I were having coffee.Mom got table and got little ones seated.Dad goes through line getting danish and drinks for family pay for items he got for breakfast.Danish, fruit and drinks has two trays to bring to table, brings first tray to table. Now is going for second tray brings it to table forgets some napkins and straws wife follows saying get some sugar and cream and is about 10 feet from table so she doesn't have to scream to talk to husband. Two little ones wide eyed and hungry, then 10 birds land on table spoil food and drinks and scare crap out of little ones.DW goes over to little ones screaming, mother in a panic dad doesn't know what has happened.DW helps Mom clean up table and get food and bird poop off children.Dad comes over and can see what happened, returns to line and gets a repeat of breakfast, this is where I come in I see this guy taking money from his pocket to pay for breakfast again. The CM has seen this this whole scene so I'm sure she will say no charge and bring a small toy to little ones.Oh no she is going to take money,I'm there in a flash and say no way are you going to take this guys money. You guys know you have a bird problem and these birds spoil this familys breakfast and poop on his children and you are going to charge him twice for it.I don't think so,dad doesn't know what to say,Itell him to take breakfast to family and take care of little ones.I tell CM in calm voice now call security or her supervisor what ever she needs to do.That I'm going back to my table and finish coffee and if I'm to be hauled off to jail fine.A shirt shows up(Disney Mgr.)I repeat story to him and he is sorry and goes to family and talks to them.Later that day Dad sees me and says thanks and Disney had let little one get a small plush of their choice and were going to get free dinner at Mama Melrose's and special seating at Fantasmic.Disney did do right by this family and I thought they would.Ater this long story,my point, nothing ever funny about birds at WDW for me.

I was snapping a picture of Japan from the sitting area behind the Fish and Chips store and this guy decided he wanted to be in the pic.

despite the fact that I hate seagulls, I think it is a pretty cool picture (if I do say so myself :earsboy: )

We saw a bird (don't remember which type) steal food from a man walking on the bridge between England and France in Epcot. We couldn't believe it and neither could he!

We didn't have a problem but while we were at Gasparillas (quick service food with some outside seating at GF) but we saw a couple of other familys get acosted by the seagulls.

One was a flyby and fry snatch. It surprised the man but that was about it.

The other was a mother and her kids. Another flyby but it really scared the heck out of her and her kids. They wound up going back inside to eat. I'm not sure what happened with her getting her food replaced.

Just to confirm that the problem isn't limited to the parks.
