Trader Sam's ressies

I think it's kitschy fun, but yeah, the whole FOMO thing is real. But the fact that they chose to make it tiny was, IMO, counterproductive as I believe it still would have booked up. There used to be a larger restaurant in that area (Hooke's Pointe?) that was 2-story, I believe. It would be cool if they had a loft or something in Trader Sam's.

I think Tangaroa Terrance initially replaced Hook’s Pointe while Trader Sam’s replaced The Lost Bar, but due to the overwhelming popularity of the latter, it became the marquee. i watched a video on Trader Sam’s years ago. Basically, it was a low-budget project that was to initially pay homage to the Jungle Cruise boats that had previously been in the area, and the Imagineering team went wild with it.

But despite its overwhelming popularly, they replicated it on a small scale at the Polynesian. There’s two large buildings at that resort they could’ve used (one use to be the food court, the other the kids’ club but both have been sparingly used since the 90s). Makes me think they’re chasing FOMO to keep it relevant and popular.

I find it absolutely enchanting!

It gives a certain type a thrill each time I’m in there
Almost nostalgia definitely whimsy

It makes me so happy so I’ll always have FOMO when I’m not there or can’t secure a res

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy Trader Sam’s, too. I just feel that Disney could easily build out a larger space but doesn’t to keep the exclusivity / FOMO; otherwise, the concept would’ve ran its course.

Allegedly the WDW version is better, but on a busy day people begin queuing up 3+ hours to put their name on a waiting list. No thanks!

I heard that Lilo's Playhouse (the former kid's club) is being used as CM storage so that's in part why it has not been reopened and/or repurposed for something else.

Anyway I hope to see Trader Sam's in Disneyland when I go in September as I've heard it's better than WDW's in terms of exclusive drinks and food. Is it hard to get a walk up after 8 pm for 2 people (both people are over 21)? At WDW you still have to wait like an hour around that time so just wanted to gauge how long it would be vs. making a reservation.

It also has references to The Adventurers' Club, right?

Yes, there’s a few minor references! It’s my understanding that the primary inspiration for the bar was to pay homage to the little remote controlled Jungle Cruise boats that had previously been in the area.

The boats occupied the area for barely a decade themed as Jungle Cruise, but had existed a lot longer before that. A similar attraction existed at the Magic Kingdom.

It was the Neverland Club when I played there as a little kid. The food court was in an adjacent building - but looking at Google Maps, it’s a single building that was divided. It was shuttered for years, and is shuttered again. I’m sure they could convert some of it to a grand Trader Sam’s if they wanted to.

How many CMs can the building hold? 😁

But seriously...are you saying that individual CMs can store stuff there, or do you mean Disney uses the building to store uniforms, or...???

Anyone know when Trader Sam's started bfast? Looks like it's walk up only which is kinda nice for those who don't score ressies....although if successful wouldn't surprise me if they add reservations at some point. Of course this might be old and it's just another thing I'm behind on the times on

It’s actually available as a reservation!
Of course if not obtained, you can have the same breakfast next door at Tangaroa Terrace

It only started a week or so ago
