Watch out for this amazon.com scam

Yesterday I was shopping on Amazon.com and noticed an offer that looked really great. They have a new apparel shop and if you spend $50, they will give you $30 to spend at amazon.com. The retailers for the clothing were names like gap, lands end, target, etc. So I made an order from Lands End for $54 and was looking forward to getting my $30 gift from Amazon. Then, I get an email from them. What a scam! They emailed me sometime late last night or early this morning to say that one of the items I ordered was being refunded (they didn't actually say they didn't have it) and that my order was adjusted. Well once they adjusted it, it fell short of the $50 required, thereby forfeiting the $30 offer. I told them that I wanted to cancel the whole order and they claim it is too late, that they already shipped it (yeah, right). I am really, really angry. I feel like this was a scam! I just emailed them again I told them what I think of their "offer:mad: "

I am seething!

I'm sorry that happened to you. I used the same offer, and received my merchandise without a hitch. I wonder if the problem is a lack on communication related to inventory between the merchants that they are representing and Amazon. I did notice that a number of the items represented ended up being unavailable when I went to place my order.

I believe that you can refuse the package. Or open and use their return form to return it. That is a hardship, and a sneaky way to get customers. (I'll bet they don't cancel any items if you're way over $50!)

If you are sure you don't want it...I just write "RETURN" on the package (don't open it)...then you don't have to pay postage....they do.

I've had that happen where I received an e-mail saying one item of my order wasn't available and they shipped the rest, and that order didn't involve any codes or promos so I think it just happens that the inventory doesn't match up in the computer or what-not. I don't think they were trying to scam you.

Sorry this happened to you. I ordered through this promotion and had no trouble.

Many times when I order on-line I get an email after saying there is a back order or delay. This usually happens because many companies still don't have an interface with their inventory systems and the online order systems. There's a lag time in some cases.

Amazon.com is a fairly reputable company. I don't think their intention is to scam anyone. All the apparel orders are being dropped shipped by the partner companies (e.g., Land's End is shipping their merchandise, Nordstrom's their merchandise even if you order at the same time) and when I ordered it was made very clear that the shipping and handling as well as delivery times would be different at the 3 different merchants I ended up buy from.

HI,

You should attempt to speak/write to a higher up. I also received this promo and since it is not a "dollar off" promo, but $30 to spend later, they are trying to avoid people scamming them by returning the stuff and then using the $30 later.

HOWEVER, you weren't "returning", THEY were, which is a different animal.

Good Luck!

I don't think it is a scam, I think it is just "one of those things." This happened to me on the "free shipping" deal for spending over $50. One of my items was unavailable and then cancelled making my limited under the $50. I emailed them and they adjusted the order. Maybe they will do something simular to that for you. If the item you order is not available, then its not available.

That's fine if it wasn't available but they could have at least notified me and given me the option to get something in it's place instead of causing me the trouble of having to refuse the order at my door. The only reason I made the order was because of the special offer.
