wasted 2 days to realize we are way too spoiled

While we too love our DVC accomadations....we also love to experience the other Disney resorts. Last year we got a chance to throw in an extra trip but didn't have points to stay at DVC. We choose AKL and got an awesome AP rate and just were thrilled with the resort. I know we'll go back some day again. And I'd like to try out some of the other resorts that do not have DVC connections. For us we'd never cancel a trip due to not being able to stay DVC!!!

We are very spoiled by DVC, but my kids are still litlte so we stay in studios a lot to STRETCH those points. I am also the "add on a night" queen. We often go down and spend the first night at a Moderate to save points, too. It lets the kids try out one more pool slide!

Off-property I don't like. Hubby has a 4-day conference in June, and this is getting me an extra trip to Orlando. But I can't quit griping that the idiots that planned the thing made it OFF Disney property. We are going to a giant, 4-star Marriott just minutes from Downtown Disney, but I have a big bug up my fanny. I keep thinking that with all the different convention facilities at Disney, with varying prices, why make it "off property?" It's just not the same... But after the 4 nights "offsite," I have 6 coming at the Wilderness Lodge, so I am THERE! :)

Ok, now I'm feeling a little bad and guilty, and when I woke up this morning I decided I wanted to go anyways, so what if it was "the cheap seats". But DH won't budge and if he's unhappy........we're both unhappy. So for those at PC in 2 weeks have a good time as that is when and where we were going, and I'll wish for warm sunshine for you. We are still going in April as we are out of points and none to borrow-yes we are out till June /2005 so we thought an ap rate would be good but we added up all that we would miss as the resorts are more important than the parks to us now and just somehow it wouldn't be the same. I guess I was simply saying how terrific every aspect of our DVC is and how much we appreciate it. More than we realized.::yes::

BTW-I forgot to mention I am now trying to convert this "We're staying home" trip into justification that we should spend the money for an add-on if we're not going. :teeth:

Ok.....now it's just getting too plain personal
Though it's not as fun as being onsite and in our DVC digs, us "idiots" spend alot of vacations in our "offsite" villa .
I best be leaving this thread ;)

Maria - You are probably long gone by now, but the note wasn't referring to "you". She was complaining about the folks who planned the conference offsite - not those of us who stay offsite. She mentioned that she stays offsite as well.

Her complaint was meant in jest and makes perfect sense to me!

Well, I added the little "winking icon" to show I'm trying to take it in stride, and I know she wasn't talking about me personally. It was the use of the words "idiots" when referring to her dh's company's booking offsite that I replied to. I don't see where she says she stays offsite either ? Maybe this was in another post ? I see here she states that she doesn't like offsite---which is fine with me----it was more the use of the word idiot to describle the company that booked the conference offsite that I responded to. Sounds more like she feels she's being forced to stay offsite instead of a Disney convention hotel like CS or S&D ?

As was mine......the "us idiots" stay offsite for many vacations was also made in jest. I most certainly don't consider staying offsite as an idiotic move-----the Marriott she is staying at is very nice. I suppose being an "offsite" timeshare owner I see it a little differently than others might---that's all. Guess I'm not as "spoiled" as some others might be and that's fine. I'm just not going to get into a DVC vs offsite timeshare debate and I know if I continue to read posts like that one I will find myself going in that direction. Sorry you didn't "get" my jest. Note the "winking" smiley icon in my previous post, Mmmcq ! I guess I could have used one of Nick's "put up your dukes" smiley icons inserted in my post :D Nick ?

Sorry, I didn't see the wink, only the frown.....I'm still asleep even though I got two kids up and out the door by 7:15 and the 3rd one is already up coughing up a storm on the couch. It's going to be a long day.

I also misread the posters comments. She said she stays at "moderates" on either end of her DVC trips - not offisite. My fault again.

But glad you weren't offended. There are way too many threads on this board that do get personal. I don't spend much time here anymore and I don't post very often because I see posters get blasted all the time. I don't need any more stress in my life!

Have a nice day..:sunny:

Hey.......it's ok. I'm cool.
Sorry about your little one being sick. My three have off for a snow day here in the Philly area. Now to figure out what to do with them all day !
I guess we both can just dream about vacationing in WDW for now.........

We had a snow day yesterday and I was chasing kids all day. Didn't see the upset my post had caused!

OF COURSE I was being silly. People stay all over Orlando, and I realize the Marriott is a great property. But as far as I am concerned, yes, the conference planners GOOFED. You have thousands of people coming down for a conference, many bringing husbands and wives and kids. While worker is at the conference, those "hangers on" wanna be with Mickey... On-site would have been SO much easier! I am stressing about getting from the Marriott to the parks and back without racking up the minivan on US 4! I guess I need to remind myself that there ARE other parks out there! :)

Friends of mine stayed offsite in a rental home last November that had an indoor pool. All this for the price of a small room at a moderate. They feel that staying ONSITE is crazy! They did all sorts of parks, not just WDW.

Sorry if I inadvertently offended anyone. Just voicing my Disney-centered opinion about where the conference SHOULD be! As far as I am concerned, ANY trip to WDW is a good trip. That's why I bullied husband into attending the conference in June.
