wasted 2 days to realize we are way too spoiled

We just spent 2 days putting together the plans to go to WDW getting really good rates, and now we are cancelling because we realize if we can't stay at our DVC resorts we would rather stay home. Sometimes it's not about the money you save on something, but the quality of life you get by doing something else. Anyone else feel that way?

While I agree with your philosophy there is no way I'd apply it to a trip to Orlando!!! DVC is quite lovely but other options can be more than sufficient.

We are die hard two bedroom lovers..... If we cant do a two bedroom forget it. :wave2:

I do think that if I'm out of points, it's not worth it to me to go to WDW that year. This is as much a function of being shocked with how much money staying at the other resorts cost out of pocket!
I do hope you plan a get away to another location with your family this year. Don't miss the opportnity to enjoy a vacation together on a non WDW year! ::yes::

We are spoiled by our DVC but the ease of getting to Orlando and the wide range of things to do from relaxation to park touring means we will stay at other resorts for either an experience like AKL Savannah view that is not within the DVC home resorts experience or heaven forbid in Feb, I wil have two nights at All Stars Movies (weekend nights at $84 AP rate)

thanks

I totally agree... We were not planning on going this year till December, Sooooo I sold my points that were going to expire. Then we decided to go to Universal so. I figure I did sell my points. So techically I am not really paying anything.;) So off we go to Universal for the twins 4th Birthday bash at HRH!!!!

When I heard the first MNSSHP last year was Oct 3, I got a brainstorm to go, we had never been to it. Planned it sometime in July. It didn't bother me to stay at CBR because I considered it a "bonus trip". Have to admit though, I missed our 1 bedroom! Would I do it again? Absolutely. Any trip to WDW is better than staying at home!

We also are spoiled by DVC accommodations, but I think if we lived close enough to WDW to get there a little more often, we'd try some of the great rates. Especially if we were holding an AP at the time to make the trip very affordable.

For some of the rates, we could reserve two rooms and still come out okay! I'm surprised the discounts are continuing so heavily right now, given the fact that WDW had a record December in attendance.

We have a 15-hour drive to WDW and if we are out of points, then we have been enough for that year. We will go again the next year.

I love staying at Dvc but will also stay at all stars or a moderate to save points. Last year we took the whole family in 2 2bedrooms units. Stayed at all stars 2 nights (weekend) before going to Bwv. This year would love to get a good rate at Akl for a few nights before going to bwv. :wave2:

Although I don't feel the same way myself, I totally understand. That's the same way DH is. A few months ago, in planning our next WDW trip, he said "and if I can't get my 1 BR at OKW, I don't want to go!" It sounded incredible to me, but he was serious. At least now I know there are others who feel similar.

I can understand how some people might feel this way, but not me. I'd stay anywhere on site (or my offsite 2 bedroom villa), if I was out of DVC points. Though I prefer our DVC stays, most times I'd just be happy to be anywhere in the World.
:earsgirl:

Any WDW trip or extra nights are better than staying home for us. We love Florida, WDW and UVS (especially with a foot of snow coming in tomorrow). If DVC ended tomorrow, we would be on the phone setting up new plans for one of the on site hotels or UVS for spring break and summer faster than you can say "I miss DVC". That tells us even without a "DVC stay" or having a few extra nights non DVC, its still an awesome place regardless-just better with DVC.

We would stay at some other on-site WDW resorts, but no way would we stay off-site.... no matter how nice the resort is said to be.
We still enjoy a few nights at The Poly or AKL, but just something about staying off-site would make me feel like I am missing half my vacation!

I know alot of people feel this way---not me though. Any reason to escape the cold of the northeast (and we're too cold for me 6-8 months out of the year !!!) is OK with me ! I'd rather be in sunny, warm FL (even if it has to be offsite) than freezing here in Philly with 4-6 inches of snow and ice on the way ! But that's just me

I understand the "being spoiled" part, but not the part about not going at all! We shifted our reservations for April by a week in September when I learned that my daughter's school vacations were odd this year. That freed up some points which I then offered to a friend/daughter's godfather to join us for 5 days in a separate villa. He would not be able to afford the rates at BWV were he to come on his own.

Then we decided to go down 3 days early anyway and will stay offsite at Sea World/Marriott and spend a day or two at Universal. It won't be the same, but it'll be nice to be down there in the warm sun (getting out of these frigid temps up north) and to be able to do some things outside the parks. I could have borrowed more points....but didn't want to. I can't afford to stay at Universal (we'd need 2 rooms), but I'm not unhappy staying in a smaller room for a few days.

Yes, I have my 2BR at BWV to look forward to.....so it's not the same as your situation....but I'd still go. :)

Not us. As long as we are on Disney property, I'll hop a plane for Orlando any time, you name it! As a matter a fact, we'll be staying at Pop Century in two weeks on a $55 a night code. We had some free airline flights that were going to expire, so we're sneaking in an extra trip. Plan to hit the parks this time. I'm tired of snow and want to head south again. :sunny:

It won't be DVC, but it will still be Disney and palm trees. woo hoo

I too am very spoiled. DVC has made it so I hate to stay in regular hotel rooms. Even my kids complained one night when we stayed in a Hyatt that wasn't a suite/villa. :snooty:

I have to take a business trip to Cleveland this week. Even though the room will be very nice, I'll still be thinking of how much more comfortable I would be in a nice villa. ::yes::

When I got off the post, I called WDW and made a reservation at Pop Century for our first three nights instead of the 2BR suite at the Seaworld Marriott. I got a great Annual Passholders rate - cheaper than Marriott and took 2 rooms. (3 nights, 2 rooms/night for less than $500!!!!) The kids will love the resort even if they are just hotel rooms especially my little princess: .

If I could get another trip in this year to WDW even if it's not in the villas...I'd do it. I just love my WDW vacations.

And by the way, one of our best trips was staying on points at the Yacht Club. We had points in holding from a post 9/11 trip which was cancelled. The room was small - but we fit fine and were comfortable and the room location (on the corner near the boat house and pool) was fabulous. We were honestly happier with that room than we were with our BCV room last July.

While I love DVC, I almost always stay somewhere else on Disney property before or after my DVC stay. We like to stay at least 10 days and we almost never stay at DVC on the weekends.
