Wasn't charged for parking for our one night

Don't know if anyone else has not been charged for parking but we weren't when we stayed one night at POR last week. We got our room number via a text and went straight to the room. Never got a parking charge on our bill.

There have been reports that some guests were charged for overnight parking who did not have a car. And other reports of some guests not getting charged who did have a car.
 
Consider yourself lucky. Unless you booked prior to when they started charging (I think it was March 2018) then you got a freebie!

Obviously the second point out the error. The first do not

It's supposed to be up to the guard to record it. They are far from consistent with it
 

It is incredibly inconsistent. Cause that is our third night not being charged for parking. Kind of funny.
 
Disney is making no effort to do this correctly. They should not be mistakenly charging people who don’t have cars, these people shouldn’t be wasting their time fixing Disney’s mistakes.
Sadly, it should be super, duper easy.
Guard scans you in.
Guard sees you are a guest.
Guard asks, are you parking or dropping off? Because sometimes, it's just a drop-off, not a guest parking.
A positive answer and the guard checks a box on his screen, YES, guest has a car. Account is then charged for parking. Don't have a car for the duration, then yeah, it's going to be on you to go to the desk to settle up, this are exceptions though.
A negative answer, the guard does not check the box.
Because it really does have to be on the guard, it can't be on the front desk to find out. Not if they are going to keep their straight to the room option. The Guard is the only one the guest will interact with.
 
Ya, it does sound like a mess. We do mostly DVC stays now, maybe a resort night here and there, but it sounds like its just all messed up.

It should be easy it’s almost like they made no effort to train anyone or figure this out. Even if you only have a car for part of the week it shouldn’t be the guests responsibility to go down and get it fixed, some of the rooms are a 15 minute to half hour walk to the front desk, they are already charging so much for everything that any time wasted has a price tag on it that the guest is paying

Right we don't pay for parking with DVC. We stayed one night at POR last week and that is what I am referring to.

I did customer service for too long to see that as being a simple question. “I’m parking for 3 hours to meet my long lost uncle for lunch then I’m returning the car and shuttling back.” But the guard, who has 5 cars backed up behind you, will hear “I’m parking” and code you wrong.

They can easily eliminate that for the first arrival
 
It should be easy it’s almost like they made no effort to train anyone or figure this out. Sorry, but may be 15 min walk to the front desk but who doesn't walk extremely close to it on their way in and out of the resort?
There are some instances where it will be impossible for them to preplan and make it so there is zero need for guest interactions. It's just not possible. I'm going to give them a pass for planning in advance every single possible scenario. They have millions of guests and can't figure out what all will do.
But they can at least make it seamless for the vast majority.
 
I can't believe it is up to the guard at the entry shack to check that box. Would make it awfully easy for them to be bribed.......pirate:

I would never give them a pass for applying fraudulent charges to my account.

I think you misunderstand me then.
I'm saying that if you for example, park a car for 2, 3 days and then return the car, remaining on property without it, they won't really have any way to know this, if you don't tell them. Or how do you expect them to just know it? The guard is logging on the way in, not out. So they won't have any way to know you don't return with a car the next time. There are some rare instances where the guest will need to let them know they have an unusual situation in order not to be charged for each night, otherwise they have no way to know. That's what I mean. I don't mean they get a pass for charging you when you've never had a car

Ok I understand the situation your talking about now. I still think they should of waited till they had a system in place to handle these type of occurrences before starting the parking charges and leaving it up to luck on whether they get it right or not
