Washington DC vacation info needed- hotel, etc.

We are looking at the possibility of going to DC this summer. We would likely fly into Reagan (DCA) airport as I understand it has the Metro connected to it and that would be helpful. We do not want to rent a car. Looking for a reasonable hotel (just need a bed, won't be there much - and breakfast!!) for 4 near the Metro, accessible to the airport as well as the tourist areas - Smithsonian, etc.

I've been there a couple of times, but it was years ago and I just followed the people who planned the trip, therefore I have no idea where anything is! Would appreciate info from those of you who live or have vacationed there! Thank you!

We went to DC about 4 years ago and stayed in Alexandria at the Embassy Suites. They had a full hot breakfast buffet in the morning and it was directly across the street from the King Street station. We stayed a week and only got in our car twice during the whole trip. We used the train and it was very convenient. Rooms are very clean and spacious. I would recommend it wholeheartedly.

We also stayed at Embassy Suites in Alexandria. We took the metro from the airport and even with luggage for 8 people and a wheelchair etc it easy to do. At the station we went out and saw the hotel right across the street. There are two different train lines that run from King ST Station and we never had a problem getting a seat. Most touristy places we went we did not have to change trains. We didn't have a car and never felt it was an issue.
