Washington DC hotel updated question on page 3

If you're looking to walk to the sites, the Hilton Garden Inn is a good location, although there won't be many people around at night, as its in a part of the city that's mostly office buildings. As people have said, the Hyatt is a nice hotel, but it's not in one of the nicer parts of DC, and you won't have quite as many food options right by you.

If you don't mind taking the metro into the city, Old Town Alexandria is a very cute area, but it will probably take you 20-30 minutes to get to the national mall area where the sights are. Old Town has a ton of great restaurants along King Street between the metro station and the waterfront (a little over a mile). Rosslyn is a more convenient location in terms of time to get into the city -- it's just across the river, but you won't see quite as many restaurants in the area.

I'd definitely recommend visiting Georgetown, but wouldn't stay there -- the only way to get in and out of the area is by bus, taxi or walking.

Dupont Circle has a ton of restaurants, but again, you want to be careful what direction you go from the circle. The neighborhood changes a lot as you go east. It's also probably going to be more expensive than some of the other neighborhoods and it takes a little more effort to get to the tourist sights. You'd have to switch lines on the metro.

Hope you enjoy your trip! I've been in DC for 5 years now and love the city!

We stayed at L'Enfant Plaza Hotel for two nights earlier this month and thought it was fine. Room was spacious with two double beds. Location was awesome - we easily walked to the Smithsonian museums and most other places we wanted to go. We did use the Metro. The L'Enfant Plaza station is underneath the hotel. We would definitely stay there again and are actually planning a longer trip next year.

We stayed at the Embassy Suites in Old Town Alexandria which was right across from King St. Metro. That might be a little pricy for a group, but there was a very good Holiday Inn on the other side of the metro.

Thanks everyone! I have plenty of time, but I'm a very eager planner LOL. We are no longer a group just 4 of us. I am still looking at the Hilton Garden, the Hyatt Regency (which is over by Union Station), the Embassy Suites Chevy Chase, and I had started to look a little at the Crystal City area. I had also looked at L'Enfant Plaza, they have good rates too.

Keep all opinions coming, we have never been and we need all the help we can get!!

Both Marriotts in Crystal City (the Marriott Crystal City and the Marriott Crystal Gateway) are right on top of the Crystal City Metro Stop (Gateway is just across the street). Use the Metro--get off at Smithsonian stop, voila!

I have also stayed at the Embassy Old Town, which also has a Metro stop right across the street----in my opinion, advantage Embassy b/c of breakfast and ease of getting to the metro....

That being said, the next stop toward DC from the Crystal City Marriotts is Pentagon City Mall which has a food court, so pick your poison!!!!

Spend more time in DC than I really care to, LOL
