I was in a buffet recently, and when I went into the ladies room, I watched, in horror, as 3 women walked out of stalls and out the door without washing thier hands!! It truly made me lose my appetite.

I can't believe how many people do not wash thier hands. That is so unsanitary. Am I wrong, or isn't it common knowledge to wash hands after going to the bathroom?

(Also, I read somewhere that if you don't use soap, you might as well not wash at all, as the germs do not come off without it).

It's common knowledge that you are supposed to wash your hands. Now, whether or not people do it is a whole other story... Gross! :crazy2:

Ewwwwwww that is so gross

I have read articles in the past stating that there is usually more germs and bacteria on the plumbing/door handles/etc. and because of that you sometimes come out with your hands dirtier than if you didn't wash them at all. I just can't agree with that. I will continue to suds up everytime and give very dirty looks to those who don't!

My little one actually uses a paper towel to open the door!! I guess I did my job well when I gave her the germ lecture. :hyper:
I'm sure she picked that up from me, but I don't always do it if there are people watching. I'll use ONE finger to open the door then, and I'm sure she can tell I don't really want to be touching it. Guess I'm just a germ freak, in some ways, but I don't take it to extremes (outside of bathrooms, that is).

two comments on hand washing:

1. I avoid using public bathrooms as much as possible for this reason. But when I have to, I always wash and dry my hands, then grab extra paper towels to turn off facets and open doors. Then I toss them at the nearest garage.

2. I am hardely a germ freak, but I am so sick of getting colds all the time that I've decided not to shake hands with people anymore. A couple weeks ago, I was at a school meeting and I told one of the teachers I was sorry but I don't shake hands. He looked a little confused and I told him why. They during the meeting I watched another teacher continually wipe her nose on the back off her hands.

That's why I try & carry a little bottle of that alcohol-based hand cleaner stuff...ya know, put a dime-sized bit on your hands & it kills 99.9% of germs. and when I do use a public bathroom I try to use a stall instead of a urinal. I know this might sound freakish, but I have a tendancy to use my shoe (with my foot in it mind you) to flush the toilet in public bathrooms. Most of the time those levers are so gross-looking!

ewwww  apparently their Mothers never taught them any better.

If you use friction it is equally as good as using soap, at least that's what they teach at hospitals. They say that it's not really the soap at all, the soap is just there to make you rub and get the friction.

And stop with the dirty looks please. I'm allergic to probably 90% of bathroom soaps due to the dyes and I leave the bathroom without washing my hands fairly often. That does not mean that I don't clean my hands! When I return to wherever (my table, my desk, whatever) I get out a handwipe or antibacterial gel and clean my hands there because I don't want my hands to break out. If you watch me until I get out and I forget to do that, THEN give me a dirty look.

I admit, I've gone into a stall and not washed my hands when i came out...because I didn't actually use the toilet, just did something in there that i didn't want everyone seeing (like straightened out my pantyhose;) ) Maybe you saw me! (I use my sleeve to open the doors)

I worked with a guy once whoe obsessivley washed his hands, too bad he never thought about a dialy shower

Things I never do after noticing too many people leave without washing their hands. I touch no doorknob with my bare hands and I never use the mints in a restaraunt. 20/20 did a piece on this once and when they examined the wrapped candies they found traces of urine on the wrapper

There's a germ freak at one of my customers. He uses a remote bathroom because it's hardly used. After he's done, he uses a paper towel to open the outside door and drops the towel right on the spot.

I usually try not to touch anything but me and the toilet paper while in a public bathroom. I wash my hands most of the time. Especially after getting a hole in the TP.

I can't believe how disgusting some people are. Do their bathrooms at home look like that with P & S all over the seat???

This is my DD!!! After she took a health course last year in high school, she became obsessed with being careful when using public bathrooms!! But when she started using her foot to flush AT HOME, I put a stop to it, before she broke our toilet!!!
I agree, wash your hands!

Washing your hands after going to the bathroom is good hygiene. I would caution the use of everything anti-bacteral, as all that you are doing is creating "super bugs", because they are exposed to so much anti-bacterial stuff, they develop resistance.

As far as the guy who drops a paper towel outside the door, he's gross and a nut!

One of these days I'm going to tape it to the wall next to the door with a sign saying "While we don't really care that your a germ freak we would appreciate you taking your germy paper towel with you".

BTW DD, what's with the pink???

That is so gross! And after working in a hospital 8 years, I've really become more of a fanatic about it. I wash my hands, dry with a paper towel, and then use it to grab the door handle and open it. I won't touch it or the faucet handles. Always use a paper towel.

Once I happened to be in there the same time as the COO of the hospital (who is also a nurse.) I couldn't believe I watched her just rinse her finger tips with water...no soap...shake them off, then open the door. :crazy2: :crazy2: :scared:

I know! I see a lot of women at work not wash their hands and it's just icky. I try to tell myself, maybe they were just changing their clothes or something else that doesn't involve actual bodily fluids...

ewwwww.

As for using soap, I can't always use the soap because I have a lot of allergies. But I do keep hand santizer at my desk and in my purse and I SCRUB my hands with warm water.
