Was this Cast Member telling the truth?

When it comes to Cast Members asking me for photo ID when using my AP discount I would say it was about 50/50, because some asked and others did not. Also when purchasing Annual Pass pins some asked to see my ticket, but not my ID and others never asked to see either one.

Well in our case there were some things we didn't want to charge to our room, plus like I said before my dad's credit card has my last name and etc. So it's not like we were trying to get away with anything. Also since none of the other Cast Members didn't say a word about how we paid and got the discount that's why it was surprising this Cast Member even mentioned anything. Also I will say again while he was on the phone I even showed him my photo ID proving it was my pass and to match our last names.

If your Dad doesn't have an AP, he is not entitled to get the AP discount. Simple. Same as he can't use your AP to gain entrance to a park. It does not matter that you have the same last name.

Well what's done is done and I didn't know we were breaking any rules since none of the CM's said anything and my friends who are Cast Members said we did nothing wrong. However in the future I will know to pay for those items myself.

How we are trained for the Discounts we are supposed to ask for ID purposes to make sure that the person listen on the AP is the person giving you the Annual Pass. So the cast member was correct.

I see the Disney Police are out in force again on the Dis:rolleyes2 .

You did nothing wrong. I showed my AP many times for discounts on my trip with my friend earlier this month. There were things she and I went in on together as gifts for people. She had a credit card and I did not. She put the whole purchase on her card and we worked out what I owed later. It was no big deal.
Don't worry about it. If you weren't entitled to the discount, the CMs would not have given it to you.

As the other CM's have replied, You are the one who has to complete the transaction.

If other CM's let you do it, you were lucky. The CM in the firehouse was correct.
The discount is only for the CM, maingate passholders or the AP holder.

1) Yes, it is the truth.
2) WDW is cracking down on anything that might cause them profit.
3) This includes people getting discounts to which they are not entitled.

NOTE: As an example, employees would use their ID's to buy discounted Christmas items for other people. In one case, my buddy had an employee by an item and the employee was 13¢ short. My buddy reached into his pocket for the change, and the cashier said the employee could be fired if the employee took the 13¢ and gave it to the cashier. That is taking the policy to the nth degree.

But only because he asked if the Disney CM was lying to him about the transaction. Everyone who has answered him has answered about the correct policy CMs are trained to follow.

Now that said; we don't know what the individual management in an area has trained their employees to do. May be at this busy time of the year some are suspending the practice to get more people through the store.

I didn't know they gave AP discounts on merchandise in the parks anymore. Didn't they discontinue park and resort discounts on merchandise years ago? I was under the impression only World of Disney and a few other places in the village age a discount. More info please.:cool1:
You are correct but right now they are running a special thru I believe Jan 9 where Ap holders can get discount at select stores and something about extra 10%. I didn't read finer details as I won't be there during time it applies.

* puzzled why a DISer with almost 24k posts is expecting consistency in something at WDW...I think the DIS proves otherwise... *

:) :) :)

While I am sure that is indeed their policy...

I have done this with my brother Rick, other members of the family before... I have always shown my AP without being asked and offer ID (usually they say no its not needed) and my family member pays. For the record most of these guys are AP holders too, but the CMs would not have known that of course.

I didn't know the official policy until I read this thread but I would have assumed that the CM was telling the truth. The policy seems logical. Maybe the CM friends you consulted with were not retail CMs?

Actually it was something wrong. The CM definitely could have been fired.

It is your discount, not his. The original CM was correct. If your Dad wanted to pay for you, he should have paid in cash.. and I also was under the impression that you could not get AP discounts in the parks anyway so how would you have gotten it at the Fire Station in the MK anyway

They have a special going on now over the holidays where the AP discount is being given in the parks as well.
