Could she be talking about August 2009? Because starting in 2009 there will be the quick service dining plan, which is 2 CS and 2 Snacks (I think) for $19.99 per person, but I don't think it starts until January, 2009.
Otherwise, either she got some deal that isn't open to the rest of the world, or she's mistaken (and my guess would be mistake, lol). Did she use a
travel agent? I was in
AAA last week getting some maps for out of state so I had to sit and wait while they found them in the back room....and I was eavsedropping on the agent talking to a lady about Disney....she first quoted a room rate for the Grand Floridian, then the lady asked about tickets also, a little more typing by the agent and she announced that she could get her tickets for almost half price. Well, I seriously doubt that because I think if there were half price tickets around the DIS would be abuzz with it.....but interestingly the lady asked if there was a discount for the resort and was told no, just the tickets. So I'm guessing of course, but I think the agent quoted the price for the GF, then looked into a package and probably applied the AAA package discount.....the price savings when I checked online wasn't quite half the cost of a ticket, but I only checked with the one code I knew and there could be others. So I'm guessing she was quoting a package discount and lumping the discount into the tickets and paying the hotel in full. Since every time I've tried to get Disney to separate out the prices for the room in a package they aren't able to, they tell you to subtract the price of the tickets and dining (in the case yesterday she said to subtract just the ticket cost because the dining was free, and the balance is the room rate), I'm guessing that the agent didn't get a separation either, but because she'd already looked up the cost of room only, she was using that as a base, and instead of subtracting a room discount she was subtracting the package total from the room only total and declaring that the ticket price.
Confusing, but bascially it's how it's quoted....you can pay full rate for the room and accept the discount towards the tickets, or you can say both are slightly discounted or the room is discounted but not the tickets....the end result is the same price it's just how you choose to calcaulate what got discounted in a package that they only give you a lump sum.
