Was buying direct and now going resale...can I??

I have an existing reservation for July. Can I wait until my resale closes and transfer the reservation to use the points from the resale? We have only put $500 towards down payment for going direct. they were going to allow us some time to come up with the rest.

Buying resale is going to save us $20k for just 10 points less based on the GFE.

I believe that once you notify DVC that you are cancelling your direct purchase they will cancel any pending reservations.

Yep, Disney will cancel your reservations.

Also, for future reference, when you book a stay with one of your DVC contracts, you cannot later move the reservation to a different contract. You can cancel the first one and then try to rebook, but there is a risk doing this because the dates will show up in the available inventory while the CM is canceling the original reservation, and another CM may book those rooms before you can begin making the new reservation. Even a few seconds can make a difference for peak travel times.

Be sure to look at your cancellation time frame for the direct purchase. If you are serious about canceling, you will want to do so in a timely fashion so that you may get a refund of your deposit.

Resales typically take weeks to close if the contract clears the passing ROFR hurdle, at the very least you are looking at a wait of probably around 1 month and so I think you will be beyond the cancellation time frame on the buy-direct contract from Disney.

jmho, don't worry about losing July reservation, your odds of getting something re-booked at one of the DVC resorts for July are pretty good & of course you can waitlist if your first choice is unavailable.
