Warning...vent ahead....(updated!!)
when stayed at the GrandCalifornian in DL(asked prior for a room with no obstructions) they gave me a room with a view that was blocked...imagine a blocked view....they gave me another view room that had another obstruction:confused3 could only see views if stood up and bent over in a corner..:rotfl:
I had a lovely view of the parking lot in October. You mean I could have gotten a free breakfast outa them for it?

Seriously though, my only issue here would be the dirty kitchen cupboards. But then I gotta wonder exactly who was staying there before and what they were thinking? A grungy cup, golf ball and pizza is not what housekeeping or anyone would expect to find up there. I've accidentally left a few "unopened" cans of tuna on a shelf and some instant coffee in a jar, but nothing that would rot or draw insects.

As for the linens, when we checked out of our 2bedroom on Saturday and moved to a studio next door last October, we noticed a basket of linens by the door. It remained there the next two days. All clean, just sitting there waiting. We wondered if the 2bedroom was rented out nightly during our next 3 days or forgotten. We never called because it just didn't seem an issue, just a curiosity.

I hear you about the shower mold and the dust on picture frames and toilet paper holders. It seems to be there just about every time I stay in a room.
(DVC or not).
I ended up cleaning my shower at VWL--so much of the mold was just that icky oozy kind that sticks to corner areas. Should be good for a few weeks!
I was happy that the mirrors were all sparkley. That is a pet peeve of mine-smudgy mirrors.
As I tell my children, you have to clean with your eyes:rolleyes1

I do know that the maids are pushed to finish quickly, but somethings are so obvious.
But, with that being said, we all would get cleaner villas if we left the room not needing major pickups and gunk stuck on everything. You obviously had thoughless people in the room ahead of you.

We stayed at Saratoga Springs for the first time this past week. We started out with dirty linens sitting outside our room (which stayed there until we complained the next day) I used the bathroom and discovered the toilet was broken. I brought out the high chair to feed the baby and there was food and grime (and even an identifiable noodle) coating the entire thing! There were (ahem...) hairs in the corner of the bathroom. Dust was coating the toilet paper holders, bathroom vents, and one particular picture frame half an inch thick. Curiously other places were spotless.

Then we discovered the bedroom door shut and locked. We called maintenance and the man was quite rude and refused to give us any help. Said he normally just doesn't lock the doors (!) Clearly he's never traveled with young children :confused3 We finally found a paper clip on my son's homework to unlock the door and discovered the door locked because the doorstop was just lying on the floor broken (so the door lock hits the wall and locks) The master shower wall (the one you can't see unless you're in the shower) had an amazing amount of mold. We also found cobwebs in the corner, the dining room light didn't work, the wall under the bar was coated in food, and something brown dripping down a kitchen cupboard. And boy was looking over the cupboards a mistake! Anyone missing a yellow golf ball and a piece of pizza?

The icing on the cake was when my son pulled a cup out of the cupboard that appeared to have been puked in. No kidding-the smell was horrendous and the substance unidentifiable. So my husband went to the front desk and talked to a manager, gave her a written list of problem areas, and gave her the cup. She sympathized with him and promised him what she called a "VIP cleaning" and a visit from maintenance to fix the bedroom door stop so we wouldn't have children locked in. This was to be done by the time we returned from the parks that day.

When we return, instead of a clean room we come back to a blinking light. The manager left us a message that said the housekeeping manager was going to inspect the room to see our "minor" complaints and that if the room wasn't clean when we came back, it would be done the next day. As you can probably already guess, no one ever came to clean the room or fix the door.

So if you stay in room 6735, look for the "clean me" written in the dust of the picture frame over the whirlpool tub. It was childish but it briefly (all too briefly, though) made me feel better.

I want to complain to someone above the manager (Eliza?) but I'm not sure who or how. We stayed at OKW in September and had no issues so we were quite surprised to find this.

Yikes I am staying there in Dec and I am not thrilled...I will be a bear if I find stuff like that... Just to let you know I wrote "clean me" on the dust to the glass bathroom door at CR when we stayed there in Sept. I left it closed with the light on to see it better as well as a post it note taped to the door with an arrow...it never got cleaned!:confused3

Never had a room issue at SSR (except for one exploding lightbulb and I called them to come clean it up - I was on my way out and I was not going to vaccuum it up myself. It was cleaned up when I got back).

But I had a recent studio at OKW where there was a serious leak under the kitchenette sink. The cabinet by the fridge was wet and the carpet soaked.

Believe it or not, it was only a two night stay and this studio was in such a great location that I didn't call them to come fix it until I checked out. I didn't want to be moved. I hope they did fix it.

just remember, there is a note in the cubboards that state that the dishes and glass and utensils are not sanitized. In other words, the maids do not clean these between guest. If they are already in the cabinet they are not checked.

We all must remember that this is our home and we do have the responsibility to keep it up. I cant believe people do not clean after themselves. nasty people are not welcome.....that is what kissimee is for.....

anyway..... we always run the utensils and plates and glasses through the wash when we first get there.

We had a problem at OKW last Summer and when I posted how dirty the GV was, I got blasted by everyone with pixie dust ideas! Boy you guys are nice! We even had 2 managers there and all we got was a sorry, we will clean it again. This is terrible that we have to be subjected to this. I will no longer accept a villa until we have a change to go in and inspect it.

and I guess the next guest were the ones inconvienced?

You mean to tell me that they don't even open the cupboard doors and peek inside? So I could throw a dead cat in there and it would be there for the next guest?
I think I just lost any urge to ever cook in one of those kitchens.

I may be a bit of a germ freak, but I always load up and run the dishwasher with all the cups, plates, and silverware from the cabinets when I first get there. It usually takes two loads to wash everything that I know we will use. But I was pretty sure that Mousekeeping wasn't washing everything between guests. And I'm also pretty sure that there is plenty of dust and germs all over those the dishware. I also bring Clorox wipes to wipe down the counters in the kitchen and bathroom. But I draw the line at cleaning the floors and washing the linens. Oh, I almost forgot, I also run the Jacuzzi tub with a bit of dishwashing detergent and bleach before we use it. You wouldn't believe the filth that comes out of those jets sometimes.

You're not alone. Been there done that. I have learned that the Jacuzzi tub can collect mold and mildew in the plumbing if not used and disinfected often. We use a Jacuzzi tub cleaner available from Home Depot. It seems to work pretty well. Bleach is hard on the rubber seals in the motor and can cause pre-mature failure. I don't want my dues going up due to a bunch of motor replacements.

Good tip on the jacuzzi cleaner from Home Depot! I will have to check it out..thanks.

That's strange. We have a Jacuzzi tub and the directions that came with the tub said to run it for 20 minutes with hot water, 2 Tbsp of dishwasher detergent (Cascade type) and a half cup of bleach. Then run it again with clean cold water. I've been doing that once a month for years and haven't had a problem so far. I'll have to call our local distributor after the holidays to see what they recommend.

Hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving!

We do the same.

Side note, I was told that Cascade Dishwasher soap works great on jacuzzi's as it will lub the seals.

Seems to make sense but cannot vouch for it.

And what do I do when member satisfaction never gets back with me? I received a canned response on the 15th that said someone would get back with me within 5 business days. I have heard nothing since. Is there a snail-mail address? Should I email them again and attach pictures from the villa?

I can't imagine that Mousekeeping would have the time to prep the units AND have enough time to run EVERYTHING through the dishwasher.

Maybe we should, but we've never run things through the dishwasher prior to using them.

I never did receive a response from member satisfaction despite contacting them 3 times. I looked over the member site and couldn't find any contact information, so I emailed member services.

The VERY next day, I received a call from the housekeeping manager at Saratoga Springs. Apparently "a man" showed up in person to let her know that we had issues during our stay that were never resolved. So someone at member services came through for us in a big way :cheer2:

At first the manager told me that her records show we checked out on the 9th of November after a one-night stay, and that there was no phone number on the record, but that the man gave her my number. Then she says she found the 2nd visit (it was actually one stay-we waitlisted the first night) and there was a note in the file that my husband talked with the front desk on day 3 of our stay and was promised a cleaning. And that's it. She says she was unaware that nothing was followed up on, or the extent of the problem (she was on vacation at the time). She promised me a phone call the next morning with a suggested comp for our troubles.

And she never called :confused3 So yesterday (a week later) I left her a message. When we came home from shopping, there was a message on my machine that they were going to comp us for a one-night stay in the future, and to be on the lookout for some paperwork in the mail :cool2:

If this actually happens then all is well. We feel it was a bit over the top for the original problems but perhaps justified with all we went through to get someone to even respond :thumbsup2

squirrlygirl,
I am glad you got some resolution. My advice is to continue to contact them (via email or phone # if you now have one) until you get your paperwork - but be persistent.

My husband worked with Member Satisfaction to resolve an issue we had. First was the email - which took 6 days to get a reply - but only after he emailed again and said "It has been 6 days... where is my response?" Then it took several calls back and forth (for about a week) - but he finally came to an agreement he was satisfied with.

When we got the "written" confirmation of the resolution (2 weeks after that - which took several emails to get remind them we were waiting for written confirmation), it was different than the verbal agreement. So this week, he is dealing with them again to get it "fixed". He is polite, but persistent and will make sure he gets what he was told. (BTW - our is not about housekeeping, but another minor DVC issue). So, in total, it has taken 4 weeks since the first contact to member services, and we are still waiting for the correct resolution. However, I will admit, all people my husband has dealt with have been more than polite and understanding - so that is a plus!
