WARNING--Mickey Soap is Ivory Soap!

We just came back from our third trip to WDW, however, this is the first time I used Mickey soap. I always travel with my own soap. My skin is not overly sensitive, however, I can't use Ivory soap. That soap eats my skin off! Well, this was the first trip in almost 30 years that I forgot to pack my own soap. I started to use the Mickey soap, when I noticed the familiar smell. Fortunately, I'd just begun to wash my face. My face looked like I had a sunburn the rest of the trip. Imagine if I'd showered completely with it. For some people, Ivory soap is not a problem. However, I'm not the only one who has problems with it. I'd just like to pass on the warning. Come to think of it, I haven't seen Ivory for years. Its common to find it in hospitals and hotels, mainly because its cheap. Perhaps they're going private label, such as the Mickey soap. Also, I couldn't find any type of "regular" soap in three hotel gift shops ( I asked, but the hotel only supplies the Mickey type). I finally ended up buying a $10 bar of speciality soap at the Boardwalk gift shop just to have something to wash up with. Just a work of warning, if you have sensitive skin at all, bring your own soap!

WOW, thanks so much, I never would have even thought to bring my own soap. This will be my first time on Disney property and I absolutely cannot use Ivory soap. I have naturally dry skin to begin with and Ivory makes me itch like crazy and feel yucky, almost like there is a film on me.

I too appreciate your tip. I hate Ivory soap. Again, I have dry skin and don't need any help making it drier. This is a great tip. You should also post this on the Disney Tips board, I think. I'm sure you would save a lot of people an itchy vacation.

Last year it wasn't Ivory soap. This year it was. Both the face and body soap. I ended up washing with shampoo, luckily I brought my own face wash. The good news is that my boys are not allergic to it. DH had put them in the bath before I knew what kind of soap it was.

Ivory is the only soap that will get my face clean. I've always appreciated the fact that Disney uses Ivory soap. It's 99.54% pure, and I've never known of any other soaps to make that claim!

Just kidding, although I really do like Ivory.

Ivory soap floats, the Disney soap does not. So it might be similar, but I do not think it is made by Ivory.

Not sure where you live, but Ivory soap is sold here almost everywhere any soap is sold.

My dermatologist told me that Ivory is the worst soap to use especially on dry skin. It really dries your skin out more. One of my sons had a small patch of dry skin when he was 2 and the doctor told me to quit using Ivory and use Dove or a similar moisturizing soap. He said Ivory just makes normal skin dry and dry skin very dry and flaky. 99% pure is just an advertising gimmick. I'll be staying at SOG next fall. We haven't stayed there since '98 and I don't remember what soap they had. I'll probably bring my Dove.

Ivory is still available in the stores here too.

Ivory used to float. I think they changed the formulation a couple of years ago so it doesn't float anymore. I bought it once in the last few years for nostalga sake as I'd grown up on it. The smell, or maybe the lack of smell, was so nauseating I threw the pack out after the first day. I'll take my own bar of soap to AKL next month.

Ivory soap still floats...I just put dh's bar in the sink. It only floats, though, because there is air either whipped or boiled into the soap when it's made. The Disney soap could still be Ivory without the added air.

Unfortunately, I don't know Mickey soap well enough to agree or disagree that it is Ivory. I guess I need a fact-finding trip, but one isn't planned for the near future. :guilty:

One tip I like to do is buy some good smelling shower gel at Bath and Body Works. I use a certain flavor on vacation and then when I get home, and need a Disney state of mind, I use it and it feels like I am on vacation! :flower1: princess: :flower1:

I had no idea. I use Ivory at home. Now I know that we can use the Mickey soaps too. Thanks. -HM

My doctor told me the same thing. I believe her words were, "Avoid Ivory like the plague." :earboy2: Dove was also recommended to me.

Know what...I've been using bath gels for years!!! I don't even remember the last time I had bars of soap in my house! When I go on vacation, the bath gel goes with me too. I'll use bars of soap to wash my hands if vacationing in a hotel somewhere, but that's about the extent of it for me!

I brought home some bars of Mickey soap last year but never used them. I checked one last night, and it was not Ivory soap. Apparently they've changed their soap within the last year. Some people can use it without problems, but I can't. I've always packed my own soap, since I was a child. This is the first trip I can remember that I forgot my soap. I made do with a small bar of clinique face soap until I could buy some other brand, I know I'm not the only one who can't use Ivory soap, so I just wanted to warn people. If I had used that soap, my vacation would have been ruined!

In the past we always brought our own soap, I'm allergic to Ivory Soap and break out in hives!

At the Swan/Dolphin resorts we use their Oatmeal soap and I don't have any sensitivities to that, thank goodness 'cause it smells so good!

I always bring my own soap too! My whole family has sensitive skin. I have to use Aveno. I'm not sure if this is as common, but I have reacted to whatever they wash the sheets in too. I called the desk and they told me they could use something else to wash my linens. So if you have spotted someone walking thru the park clawing themselves to death it was probably me! :earboy2:

There are alot of soaps that I can't tolerate the smell of, and I totally agree that the Mickey soap is Ivory (just got back from AKL Saturday). Ivory soap smell almost makes me nauseous and I definitely know that's what I smelled. Luckily, I am not allergic, just had the gag reflex, lol.
