Just a warning for those of you driving in the WDW area- the county sheriffs are all over the place ticketing fast drivers. Here's where I've seen them!

They are all over I4 in the WDW area, several of them. One uses radar, and the others pull the cars over.

It is especially bad at Exit 62 on ramps and off ramps. EVERY time I drive through that area, there are sheriffs with many cars pulled over.

They also hang out near the "borders" of WDW property and Florida property..... just before you start to see the Purple and red signs. Yesterday, there were 4 of them in one of those areas... the speed limit was only 40mph. Most people drive 60 through that area.

I have also seen them on the actual WDW Property, but not as much. Without a doubt, they are near the exits to get to and from WDW on I4, and 192. Please be careful as you are driving in this area. Traffic has really slowed down.

Am glad to see this.
While it's am active operation, things may slow down. After they leave, it'll be back to speeding, tailgating, improper lane changes, failure to yeild, etc etc.
Just like at home---.

It's a big money maker for them. They average around 600 tickets a day when they do that. I guess Disney isn't the only one who likes tourist money! LOL

Actually, when it all comes down to it, the worst drivers are the CM's. They're always running late to work or whatnot, and they think that they know the roads, and there will be no cops, so they just speed on by my bus.

It was actually a Disney execuative that asked Orange County to beef up the patrols. And in fact, Disney actually paid some officers to come on property and set up a few speed traps for awhile.

I do have to say that I'm VERY glad they are doing this. They do come on property every so often, and I always like that. People drive like MANIACS down here, and something really needs to be done about it.

By the way, just to dispell a common rumor... the old rumor goes that you can't get a ticket on Disney property because Disney doesn't want to ruin your vacation. The truth of the matter is that you can and WILL get a ticket on Disney property. And it will be expensive, too. But, better a ticket, than a car accident caused by excessive speed.

As I say on my bus... "We are a high-speed turbulent thrill ride, subject to sharp turns and sudden stops, because there are lots of crazy tourist drivers out there that have absolutly no clue what they're doing. So as such, HOLD ON!"

I am VERY pleased to hear this!
Lately we've been in Orlando an average of twice a month. Whenever possible, we use Happy Limo, but on some trips we do a lot of running around and have to get a rental car. I thought that driving in downtown Chicago was bad, but it is a piece of cake compared to the WDW area. I stick to the speed limit or slightly above, and half the time I'm waiting for the driver behind me to start pushing me! Tailgating seems to be a way of life. Maybe the beefed up patrols will get the speeders to chill, and then all I'll have to worry about is the tourists who abruptly stop in the middle of the road at any given time or cut across four lanes of traffic out of te blue.

LOL Barb! We joke about it now. When we're on I4 and are nearing a WDW exit, my fiance Ted always says "Okay, let's see who the tourists are" and just as he says it, ALWAYS, there are several cars, crossing many lanes of traffic and slamming on their brakes to make the exit at the last minute. It's hilarious! I'm amused, because that used to be us!
Actually, it sometimes is still us! We've been fortunate learning the area because Central Florida drivers expect and anticipate people taking exits at the last minute, and not knowing where they're going. Try doing that in Boston! (Or Chicago in inkkognito's case)

I'm also pleased about the beefed up patrols, but I won't be if they pull ME over!

Good warning,

I got a speeding ticket awhile back when a bridge was getting repaired. I drove the same route every day to work for months, 20 or so over the reduced speed limit - and one day it happened. A EXPENSIVE ticket, doubled since it was a construction zone. This was ON disney property - so watch out! Drive safe!

>>> can't get a ticket on Disney property because Disney doesn't want to ruin your vacation...

Better to hand out tickets rather than have you ruin someone else's vacation as well in an accident.

The cops should also do a lot of pulling over of drivers doing improper lane changes and failure to stay in lane. Actually this would catch a lot of the bad cell phone talkers and leave alone almost all of the careful cell phone talkers.

>>> turbulent thrill ride ...

Guests would likely be very appreciative if the bus had the characteristics of a turbulent thrill ride vehicle, namely everyone buckled into seats. Except loading and unloading would be slower.

The last few trips down on International Drive, I've seen more than a few drivers cruise right through a dead red light.

When in the area I always look all ways while entering an intersection.

Reminds me of Vegas...tourist drivers.

Tyler can we get a FP for your bus?

Tyler or anyone who knows, as often as I'm at WDW, I don't recall seeing any speed limit signs, or just don't remember. What is the speed limit on the roads? I assume the divided roads are higher than the others.
Thanks.

It varies from area to area. Some areas are 35mph, others are 40mph and the highest (the straight-away near the gates to MK )is 50mph.

There are speed limit signs on all the major roads into and out of WDW. They vary from 40 to 55 depending on the area.

Thanks, I'm sure I've seen them. It's just one of those things you don't remember.
