This is a warning..not sure if it is in the correct section.
For the past month,
on the road to the contemporary resort,
....there have been sheriffs cars parked...right before the hotel...as you come around the curve.
What they have been doing..is pulling over anyone with out of town plates..
no matter...how fast you are going..the speed limit is 30 for about a city block there...so..if you are going 35..or 31...
and..have out of town plates..they will get you.
I know this..as about 3 weeks ago..it happened to me..
I was not speeding..there were cars in front of and behind me...
and...I..and another car....3 cars back...with Ma. plates..were pulled over.
I only got a warning..which is what they do..If you prove..that you are a local.
2 weeks ago..It happened to my DIL..who also lives here..with Pa. plates...
they tell you that you were going about 10 miles faster.....than you were.
yesterday..they got my neighbor.
and..today, as I drove past..going 20:lmao:......as I now know they are there....
I saw 6 more out of town cars.. get pulled over.
It seems that locals get warnings..and...visitors..get tickets.
I cannot believe that this is going on at Disney..
but.Orange County..must be in a cash crunch..
so..beware.

Thanks for the warning but they are all over disney property giving speeding tickets so i dont think they are just stopping out of state plates. If you disagree on the speed just ask to see the radar gun you have the right to they will show you it. The other reason might be they might be looking for someone and they pull over all cars with out of state and talk. They figure if they give you a waring you wont complain.

I'm going to get flamed for this, but please, let's pay a little attention to punctuation and spelling. It would make both of these above posts much easier to read, and therefore, get either of these poster's points across.

thanks and sorry i go back and fix it i just got carryed away a little and some times forget to put proper punctuation. And for the spelling i have a learning disabilite and spelling hard but will try harder again thanks and sorry.

I'm sorry, but I've read about these speed traps numerous times--including in the Unofficial Guide. The line about security and 9/11 and all of that is nice, but it has nothing to do with it--the OP was onto something. They sit there routinely and its a cash cow. I don't know about specifically targeting out of state plates, since I'm sure many vehicles are rentals, but I know they pull people over like crazy around there and I'm going to have to be VERY careful driving back and forth next week!

yes the line about security and 9/11 and all of that is nice, but it has nothing to do with it so i fixed it just trying to give a reason why they might pull you over. They dont just pull you over to make money because it coast them more to give you the ticket then they make on it. If they pull you over for speeding it because they want you to slow down and not to crash your car.You will also need to be carefully by akl they sit there too and pull people over like crayz and they like to hide behind the tower of terror sign on world drive. Have fun and stay safe while your in disney.

It's nice to give the police the benefit of the doubt, but I do not believe for a second that they are not making money off the tickets. I don't know about in Florida, but here in Northern Virginia police presence was beefed up in the "interest of public safety" as soon as the budget was passed. When saying that "it cost them more to give you the ticket then they make on it", you need to look at who is paying the bill and whether it is a sunk cost or not. The police officer will be payed whether hes handing out tickets or not, the court costs are mostly paid by the "offender" and if not is not a cost to the police department. Let's face it, the economy still stinks and jurisdictions will do anything to increase revenue.

You know.....I was at WDW for 12 days last month...I don't think I ever saw any cruisers parked there. So, it's not an 'always' thing.
Besides....have any of you ever ridden on the bus and watched how out of state drivers drive down there??? It's one of the reasons I won't rent a car to get around WDW property. So, I figure that you might want to drive at the speed limit...or risk getting stopped.
And no...I truly don't want this to turn into a 'so, you never speed?' discussion. We all speed, at times, even if it's only 5mph over the limit. But, you make that choice, so you should be willing to take the consequences.

I was stopped during my stay at BLT in April for speeding in this exact spot! The speed limit drops to 30mph in a very quick way so even though I was going with the flow of traffic we were all "speeding". I had a rental car so it had Florida plates. The officer gave me a warning and believe me, every time we passed this way during our trip we slowed to a crawl!!

It seems that locals get warnings..and...visitors..get tickets.
I don't know if it's true or not, but I've been told that unless it's excessive speeding, guests get a warning and CMs get a ticket. And buses are not immune from the trap.
I cannot believe that this is going on at Disney
Nothing says welcome better than a speeding ticket at WDW. It can't be good for business, but does Disney have a say in the matter?

That speed trap is there often, not every day though. It's only up for an hour or two, usually late afternoon. Not long ago a CM running late for work was killed on that road.

Speeding? I know! How can people be so foolish!

(Yes, I'm pulling your chain, but just a little. If you are going to speed (and I sometimes do), you have to be willing to accept the ticket. If you don't want the ticket, don't speed.)

does Disney have a say in the matter?
Yes and no. As I recall, RCID doesn't have its own police force. I think that means that the respective counties end up providing services to WDW. But, RCID and the counties get along pretty well, so I'm sure Disney could have some influence.

Not long ago a CM running late for work was killed on that road.
So it is entirely possible that Disney *did* have some influence---and asked for a little more coverage in that spot. That stretch of road is much more heavily traveled by Cast than by Guests.

One speed trap is on Western Way (the new west entry from Hartzog Road and Toll 429 Daniel Webster Western Beltway around Animal Kingdom over to Buena Vista Drive near Blizzard Beach).

Yes, a sour taste to start off many a guest's vacation. But still better than not taking the vacation at all after going too fast to stop for a Disney supply truck that was slowly turning into the crossroads a little ways past the Disney welcoming arch.

No worries, David...and you're totally fine to come on and make a point...it was just hard to read. :) (and it wasn't just you; I have never seen the '...' used so much in one place in my life... and I like to use it!) My point is really that posts come across so much easier and people are maybe going to actually read the content if they are punctuated well and not in super need of spell check; something that seems to be declining in this digital age.

Carry on, and safe Disney travels! (speed traps or not!)

Question- aren't all the roads on WDW property considered to be private roads? Aren't they built and maintained by WDW? Who sets the speed limits on Disney property?

I'm not sure that it matters, but here, private roads aren't policed by the public police force. I think if the police are there, it would be at the request of Disney?

I must be getting slow in my old age...
but..what were you referring to in my post?
I am a ..stickler for correct spelling....
back on topic...
I guess I was not clear.
I was NOT speeding..and...neither was my DIL.
We were both traveling with a lot of other cars...they were going so slow,
it was impossible to speed..even if you wanted to.
and..we were both picked out of the line of cars.
My kids are CMs.....
and..they heard him talking about drunk, college program kids.....
after he realized..they are locals and in their late 20's...
he let them go.
They do pull over rental cars.......and...a few Florida plates..but, not most of them.
BUT, the only ones that I have heard of that were actually ticketed...
were out of staters.
It is only marked 30 MPH for about a 10th of a mile or less...
and...if you are going 32....they get you.
Yes,I did notice that it is in the late afternoon or evening...
but..yesterday..there were 5 sheriff cars there.

I know you were't asking me but I can guess what the poster was referring to. Your posts are hard to read with " ..." in so many places. "..." is the incorrect grammar the other poster is referring to. The "..." aren't needed and are distracting.

Question- aren't all the roads on WDW property considered to be private roads?
Some are limited access, but most are "public"---but in a very odd sense of "public". It's a little complicated, because the "government" entity that has direct jurisdiction over most of what we think of as Disney World is the Reedy Creek Improvement District. This is an actual "public" governmental body, but the only "citizens" are Disney employees. It's effectively Disney's private government. There are some entanglements with the enclosing counties---and policing is one of those entanglements. The permitting process is another (though RCID sets its own zoning, building codes, etc.)

If I recall correctly, police powers might be one of the very few things that RCID does not have; those may instead reside with the cities of Bay Lake and Lake Buena Vista---also "public" entities which have only Disney employees as residents. Or, it may be that RCID has those powers, but has never formed a police force. The recent book "Married to the Mouse" will have the details, and if not that one, "Project Future".

"If you use leader dots (ellipses), set them off with a space before and after each dot, for a total of four spaces and three dots . . . like that. Our editor also reminds us, "When a period appears at the end of a quote, use four dots. . . ."
aha!!
So, . . . it seems that . . . I need to space my dots?
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!:rotfl:

Keep reading. The section you are referring to applies when your "dots" are being used correctly in the first place.

Read the section about "dots" being used in emails... ;)
