WARNING: Disney Vacation Account took money without permission

I'm trying to get in now, but I'm stuck on the animated suitcase screen with the message "Please Wait. Please do not refresh this page or use the Back button during this operation. We're adding up your savings now." It won't move past that, and I've been waiting over 5 minutes. :furious:

Bet this pops up next, "Thank you, we have transferred all your money to Bob Iger's account". LOL

I managed to login in while using Chrome. I requested my bonus GCs and then asked for a full refund of my balance. I didn't close the account on the outside chance that they fail to send my bonus GCs and/or my refund.

And I printed out screenshots of everything as a backup.

It may have been a good idea but the DVA has been poorly executed and I'm not willing to risk thousands of vacation dollars to faulty technology.

Good luck, everyone!

To the desktop!

I did it! I finally got into my account for a couple of minutes! Just enough to to get the needed numbers from inside the account! Then I clicked on a link to look at something else in the account while I was there... and the whole site went back down again. But the important thing is that I now have my 16 digit account number, hooray! Booking is now deposited and good to go. :thumbsup2 Once they finally have the website fully functional again, then I'll decide if I'm going to clean out and close my account or not.

Has anyone else been able to get in today? I have tried all weekend and never was able to. I keep getting the "website down for maintenance" page.

I can access my account but cannot request a refund. The form is conveniently not working. I also cannot cancel my automatic contribution.

It's my understanding that a few of us are now in touch with additional media outlets.

I wasn't affected by this- as I don't have a DVA. I am however grateful for all of you sharing your experiences. My friends and family seek out my guidance when it comes to all things disney and I can honestly say that I absolutely wouldn't recommend this. Not just because of the errors with the
(extra) automatic withdrawals. Upsetting- absolutely. But id like to think I'm a reasonable person and I would get mistakes happen. (Granted- if my account was overdrawn bc of this I would expect disney to make this right). The problem is the complete lack of communication from disney explaining that the wrongs will be made right by a certain date. Many, myself included, see disney as one of the last upstanding corporations that stand behind their product. I hope that this issue is swiftly corrected for all of you. I work hard, and love to spend my money at disney- but I don't want to feel taken for granted.

Please keep us informed! My initial thought was "hacked" rather than a "glitch." Maybe they are still tracing where the additional deposits ended up.

::yes::

I guarantee you that if Disney had contacted the affected parties, apologized, kept us informed, and provided reassurance (that the money would be refunded, that overdrawn bank accounts would be taken care of, that the problem had been identified and fixed), that this thread would not be 12 pages long and nobody would have gone to the media for help.

The other problem is that the spokesperson lied to the reporter who asked when the site would be back up.

It really is sad. And worries me that they are hiding instead of being upfront.
It's obvious to me the problem is bigger than a bad upgrade............upgrades happen all the time and to be down for more than a week is "beyond" unusual. As has been stated before all of these monies are FDIC insured so everyone is covered from that perspective.

The silence from Disney is the more disconcerting issue...........that leads to rumor and supposition of some large more nefarious reason for what's occurring. This can't go on forever at some point the reasons will come out.........but in my opinion this has a greater chance to be a national black eye on Disney as a corporation...........far beyond FP+ and all the other recent issues that have gone on at our favorite vacation location.

During a moment the DVA website was up Saturday I requested they close my account and return my full balance. Monday (yesterday) I got an email that they'd did close my account and are refunding my balance.
Then I received another 13 emails, each one stating DVA is reversing an original reload. So, it looks like that's how my 'full balance' will be refunded, one transaction at a time to the Chase credit card account DVA took the scheduled contribution from.
Those emails came yesterday. No action yet on my credit card account but I'll keep watching. Hoping all goes well - ready to be done with DVA.

Thanks for posting this. I was wondering whether the DVA would actually acknowledge any refund requests or the account would just show up empty someday with no indication that a refund had been processed. Communication has not been their strong suit.

This morning's website update:

Website Down for Maintenance
The Disney Vacation Account website is currently experiencing an extended downtime. We are working diligently to make the website available for you as quickly as possible. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.

You folks are right - this is way beyond a glitch and that's why they have yet to acknowledge it. The lack of communication is what's going to bite them in the rear.

I MISSED IT...
i was out when you all were able to log in and cash out...now its under maintenance again...GRRRRRR!!!!!!

I would contact abc news since i know family members that work there, but they'd never air anything like this.

Anyone have any type of direction as to where to go to get myself cashed out?

Thanks.

Don't feel too bad - I got in yesterday, but I couldn't cash out.

Of course they wouldn't! Disney owns ABC.

I don't understand how this system can still be down!!! Honestly, i could easily get a company to put a staff of 5-10 guys 24/7 on this and get it fixed in a few days MAX. Come on, i'll even donate a few dollars from my DVA account to pay for these guys to fix the mess disney created.

Who knows...maybe when those IT workers that got laid off and had to train their replacement put a bug in the system to blow up after they left...probably sitting and laughing at the ineptitude of the Disney IT dept right now.
