Warning- daily safety and security room check

Bottom line is the whole thing is a joke as far as actual security is concerned. Anyone with a small amount of experience can tell you how it is more for show and ways around what they are trying to prevent.

As far as true security issues are concerned, I for one would be more worried about a person pretending to be security personnel and getting into the room then attacking someone vs someone having things in the room that they shouldn't.
Hope it never happens on either front but once someone is attacked by a fake worker it will be interesting to see the response

HopperFan - i totally agree! I hate to complain on vacation but I was at the end of my patience! The one day they softly knocked and before we could get to the door, a man and woman came in and my hubby was sitting on the end of the bed in his undies! They said they were there to check the air conditioning... when I stated nothing was wrong then it changed to they needed to check the bathroom. The phone calls became a joke as we thought it was funny that they would leave voicemails asking if everything wa ok? At least once a day and often twice! The one day I asked why the man was there as we have housekeeping daily and he referred me to the room occupied sign that stated at the bottom their right to enter the room at anytime! Funny at the poly it was totally different.

When you were at the Poly, did you put your room occupied sign out? We put ours on when we checked in and then we left it on when we went to the parks that evening. We received a text later that evening saying they noticed the sign on our door, and so we must be opting out of housekeeping. :confused3

We didn’t respond to the text, but we took the room occupied sign off for the rest of the stay, and received housekeeping. I kind of felt like the room occupied sign red-flagged us.

OP here- 8:24 am -knock on door for security check. Room occupied sign out. Had spoken to the manager days ago about not having someone knock on our door until any time after 12. This is ridiculous.

So sorry to hear this- totally ridiculous! We like to sleep in, too!

It's not even that. We were targeted and when we were checked we saw no other rooms checked. One day, I know they "followed" me there and came to our room and did not go to any of the other 24 rooms on our floor I could see. I know because we detoured returning to our room so he was quite surprised to see us walking up to the door he was about to enter. I am sure he thought we were inside. He came out of a stairwell straight to our room and I stayed out on walkway when he left and he went straight back to the stairs. Even the housekeeper working a few doors down watched him with a strange look.

That is crazy! They're allowed to creep around?? even HK thinks they look odd? Doesn't make me feel safe as a guest!

security guy following guests like that is so creepy. If I was solo I would be so unnerved.

Yes! I would feel VERY unsafe- I don't care that they are CM's- CM's are fired & arrested for breaking laws, too!

I would be livid. I sleep in, even on vacation there is no way I would be up that early. You definitely should write Disney a long detailed lettered

I asked them to come back after 12. It was a woman. I don’t want to assume it was housekeeping vs security- but the one guy had on gloves the second time it happened. Considering offsite next year. I can’t see how this improves safety.- every day checks is absurd. How about two random checks a week. Or you can schedule a three hour period on a middle of your stay or something. Grrr. Today is my last day so no more updates. Hopefully others will post heir experiences and better yet that they removed this policy!

Has anyone noticed if it appears they are targeting certain ones, maybe ones who appear they could be stockpiling guns OR appear they may be sex traffickers? Just wondering if there's any rhyme or reason to any of this. Didn't the monorail resorts start out as the ones they were "harassing" most & now it sounds like POP & the moderates are the ones receiving more of it? The Disney resorts are part of our wonderful vacation experience with their lush tropical grounds & themed environments (in the past, that is), but now, it sounds like we'll prefer staying offsite (which cancels at least half or more of the great vacation experience, so sadly). :(

I think they are really ALL housekeeping. I think the "security" checks not done during the housekeeping checks are just supervisor levels.

There is a reason they want to do this with guests in rooms, trying to catch them at odd times, insisting on checks when they see signs up during day. The items they say they are looking at, don't need looking at. They are there to look for red flags and a look at the guests, especially those that trigger one of the red flags.

They aren't looking for guns ...... anyone stockpiling would have them in bags, well hidden ... and remember no other hotels are doing this, not even in LV where they dealt with this.

The gentleman with the gloves on a did not appear to be “higher level”. Green janitor/housekeeping uniform, standard name tag. Saw him put on blue gloves. Wth was he planning on going thru? Our trash?

IMO, they don't expect to catch anyone and if they did it would be dumb luck. It's more about being able to prove in court that they did room checks should some idiot cause harm to Disney guests. The financial liability should something happen could be hundreds of millions of dollars or more.

Our room checks are hit or miss with housekeepers taking the kitchen trash and not even walking through the rooms.

I've seen that you say this is Disney's problem; is that because you believe Disney resorts specifically have a problem with sex trafficking? I guess the reason I'm asking about particular people being targeted is in the hopes that we, personally, wouldn't be targeted because we don't fit who they're targeting. But, I don't know; we may look exactly like who they're targeting (if anyone). LOL! We're a single couple in our early 50's with health issues (diabetic/transplant patient). I would hope our chances of having them harass us would be unlikely, but if they have no targets & do this to everyone, no hope of that. But there are so many reports of others who have no issues with this. Thus my question of targets....

The problem is; if the guests dictate when to do the security checks, it defeats the purpose a bit. I would say, just logically, if I was thinking someone may be doing something wrong, I'd target when they told me not to come. I think the communications' pipeline needs to improve, so that if someone is "cleared" then security can back off until the room gets turned.

If people want it to change, I'd suggest emailing the higher-up's. If enough people do and enough people stay off site, then it'll change. If it isn's statistically a big deal then they 'll leave it the same, but hopefully streamline it and standardize it. I've personally never had a problem when there, nor received a survey asking about it, nor felt the need to send an email for or against.

Yes.
For many reasons.
Simply, Orlando #3 in nation for problem.
Disney is part of many conversations.
Disney is the perfect location and cover,
for all the parties involved.

Am sure there are a variety of red flags,
and only adults, which we are, registered likely one.
What is in your room compared to who is registered could be.
Lack of ADRs or FP+ could be.
Not sure your health issues would even come in to play at all.

I know we were targeted, we had BIG RED FLAGS,
only way to further "investigate" is to put eyes on guests,
at all different times of day.

In my case aside from being a quite regular guest with a substantial MDE history, my MDE could also immediately allow them to see ... that my red flag is not a red flag. They are lazy. Honestly I feel like I need some kind of TSA card so I can enjoy my room in peace.

Always someone in line to take those rooms. Shocks me how quiet this has stayed given how invasive some checks have been. The only way this likely gets resolved is if the news picks up on it and starts reporting. Big bad PR will likely be only thing ......... or that first lawsuit when a male employee walks in on a naked woman .. and the police are called.

I think that some people could be/are red flagged for sure. But I also think a lot of the security checks are just random. Like I mentioned earlier, security starting on one end of a row and going in order to the other end, regardless of room occupied signs being off/on and regardless of having housekeeping come in daily.

Like you I have an extensive MDE history, long time DVC owner. If not solo, I only bring the usual suspects. At my age, I don’t think I fit their profile for bad acts, although since the reason for the checks have not actually been disclosed, maybe I do? Since I usually have a car, sleep in and take breaks a lot, maybe my actions are suspicious? I would prefer not to have to justify my actions especially to a company I pay big bucks to every year.

Your actions are in no way suspicious- just the opposite! They are the actions of one on vacation!
Are we coming under suspicion because if we sleep in and take naps & breaks, we aren't spending any $$!:thumbsup2

Haha, I think I did post on a previous thread that maybe the room checks are to make us want to be out the rooms more and spend more $$. Maybe we are on to something.

Do you think if I put a note on the door saying we are sleeping and ask them not to knock that it might work? I would be so incredibly upset being woken up early after carefully planning rest days after also carefully planning which days to stay out late. Also we will return for naps with littles.

It’s funny you say that because i felt like we were being targeted too! We have stayed at Disney 20 times prior but it’s like they knew when we were in the room! If i listened to the message they would show up within a couple minutes, i stopped playing the voicemails! And every time we left the room, a worker would be lurking (no housekeeping cart or maintenance cart) just super weird! We had two connecting rooms and one day two workers showed up to our room at the same time one showed up to the connecting room!

We had housekeeping everyday but one and security did show up to do a check!! No phone calls or texts though.. this whole thing is super bizarre to me and what’s really sadly funny is that the room checks are a joke! Unless you are checking the showers, drawers, suitcases, etc then it’s really ineffective.
