Third is a new thread on the DCL trip reports forum. Since kaytieeldr you are often posting during prime German posting hours you most likely have seen the same type of spam that I have seen here and elsewhere over the years. Call me a cynic but there are newer, smarter spammers who post a plausible story with an imbedded link or email address to lure unsuspecting readers.

Hopefully this isn't the case here, and this is just a misguided poster unaware of internet security.

when i got back to memphis tn, the ribbon was gone, and my laptop was gone. my money, jewelry, camera, laptop mouse and laptop cord was all gone and my RED gateway lap top was missing

Who packs money in a suitcase??

Sorry but Disney is definitely not responsible and unfortunately there are too many people who had access to your bag to blame just one person.

Sorry this happened to you, perhaps your home owners policy will provide coverage for the stolen items.

In case the poster comes back to respond, there are messenger-style bags that will accommodate all the missing items and which one can wear with the strap cross-body. This frees up the traveler's hands so they can carry on an infant, a toddler, and a senior citizen instead.

Apparently we interpret the same way.

I was having dinner this week with a group of 80 and 90 year olds, many of whom are heading off on long haul flights soon. They were asking me for suggestions for new luggage and laptop cases as they were planning on taking their laptops along on vacation as usual. The oldest was 93, and while not that mobile anymore, he packs his valuables and his laptop and manages his carry on.

I often post here that I have a very small German carry on, and I often travel with two laptops in my case. I don't always have full use of all my body parts, but it is manageable.

Remember too that anyone who needs assistance due to age or lack of mobility can request it from their airline.

The intent of my post is that just because one is old or young or carrying three people doesn't mean that one can put aside common sense and responsibility. Money, electronics, jewelry, meds, computers - they should never be checked unless one does expect to lose them, and considers the fact that they make it to the final destination an exception rather than the rule.

Sad but a true fact.

If you don't want to lose something, you keep it with you...period. No way would I ever put a laptop or money in my bags that I was entrusting to someone else. Crimany...that's asking for trouble.
I have a new netbook....first time traveling with it in a few weeks. But, no way is it going in my checked luggage. It stays with me, in my carryon..period.

Can't imagine anyone that is naive enough to think they can just pack money and electronics in checked baggage and then not worry about it.

The laptop wasn't even in the luggage it was wrapped in a towel tied "on" the luggage. How does that even work and worse yet how would someone think that would be safe/make it home/not be tempting to thieves, etc.????? If you didn't notice anything missing until you arrived home in Memphis, Disney was not the last one in possession of your belongings, techinically you were, but then you could also say the airline was because they had it for your flight.

I think she meant that the laptop was wrapped in a towel to "disguise" it, but it was packed in her checked bag, which had a ribbon tied on it for easy identification. With a towel disguise or not, it doesn't change the fact that you should never pack valuable items in your checked bags. If you can't manage it in a carry on for whatever reason, you should leave it at home. Computers are "nice to haves" on vacation, not essentials.

Does DCL do things differently than other cruiselines? On RCCL, we put our bags outside the door by a certain time the night before we arrived, keeping, of course, our small bags with valuables, computer, and money. The employees then came by to take our bags, and we met up with them again after getting off the ship.

If something had gone missing, we would have blamed fellow passengers, not employees of the cruiseline. But of course it was only clothes and shoes in our bags...not our laptop, money, etc.

Bumber, we're thinking alike too. My original post said something about leaving bags unattended out in the hall, with a laptop on top, but I edited it based on the (confusing) post from the sort of OP (meaning our bumper, not NotUrsula)

I don't think that any of us are clear on what actually happened or how it was packed, but worse case it is bags left in the hall unattended, with a laptop on top, and cash, jewelry, camera inside the unlocked bag.

Hopefully it wasn't quite that bad.
