Warning about danger when raining in the parks

My first concern was the child being cleared to fly after a concussion that produced vomiting. I'm not a doctor (and never played one on TV) but wouldn't that be a risk?

I am a survivor of a bad brain injury that required two surgeries so anytime I fall down anywhere and hit my head, I'm going to the emergency room so I'm slightly biased. Having two brain surgeries, I don'[t take chances but the flying after the concussion has me a bit baffled.

Glad to hear the nephew is doing well and I'm sure he will bounce back. I'm back to 99.9% but I'm in my 50s. Kids do a lot better so I'm sure he will be fine but watch out for future hits on the head. Do not hesitate to go to the hospital right away.

Update-he is doing better than the docs expected. They kept him in ICU for an extra day. He is talking and walking a little. The doc told his parents he shouldn't be alive, they would have expected him to only last about four hours after such an injury. The said he he is a miracle boy. He has not cried, complained or fussed once. Thank you all for your well wishes and prayers.

Yooperfan, this is good news! So glad to hear he is improving. Sounds like he is a very brave and strong boy. Continued prayers for him and your family. Please keep us posted!

Hope your nephew is doing ok. Not a good memory to end on. But hopefully this won't keep him from enjoying future Disney trips.

I'm not sure what you are implying with "demand tests get done". If EMS was called then the parents would have had to sign a waiver not to go to the hospital. But it sounds like he got worse and they took him to the hospital which is exactly what they needed to do.

But yes, the ground at disney can be slippery when wet and we should be careful.

You are correct. I fell on our December trip (while it was raining) and could not bear weight on my ankle. A CM got a wheelchair and the EMS came and gave me an ice pack and wrapped my foot. I had to sign a form stating I refused to go to the hospital and I was given information on what to do should I change my mind and decide to go to the hospital. There were several CM's that were around me and took down my information. It was very smooth and professional. That being said, I pray this child recovers fully. I am glad he is getting the medical care he needs.

Forgive me, I haven't read all the replies. I hope your nephew recovers fully and swiftly.

The doctor told her that anytime there is vomiting with a head injury, head to the ER immediately for CT Scans.

This exactly. Our ped has told us the same exact thing. It's very important information for everyone. I can't help but thinking about actress Natasha Richardson and her ski accident. She didn't feel right after her accident but I don't think she went in for scans straight away and the outcome was fatal.

Thank you for the warning about being more careful in the rain.

And that is why you don't run when it's wet. Even running when it's not wet is a bad idea, because the ground isn't always completely flat, plus there are so many children/strollers/people not paying attention that you're almost guaranteed to smack into/over something if you run.

I totally agree. There's no way of knowing when it's slippery or not, and there are too many people around the bus stops sometimes to risk it.

OP, I'm glad your little one is doing well.

So relieved he is ok. I babysit for a girl who fell hit her head and has a TBI, she is a walking miracle, like your nephew.

Anytime I hear of a head injury my heart just sinks. You can never be too careful

I certainly hope he is okay.

Regardless of what an EMS says, you always have the right to request an ambulance or go to an emergency room yourself. ESPECIALLY in regards to head injuries, spend the money and the time to get proper testing (head CT etc).

Update- he has exceeded the docs expectations and they are allowing him to go hone. He will have a surgery in about a month to replace a small PC of skull that was too damaged to repair. Thank you all for your prayers and well wishes.
