Warning about danger when raining in the parks

My very close friend's daughter just experienced a concussion at the beginning of the school year during a volleyball game. The doctor told her that anytime there is vomiting with a head injury, head to the ER immediately for CT Scans. I would not have known that, however, I'm surprised EMS did not advise it. Saying lots of prayers for your nephew. Please keep up posted!

This is standard protocol for a head injury. Anytime you have a head injury that causes vomiting or loss of consciousness, it is important to check for hidden fractures or bleeding on the brain.

Thank God! I'm glad he's doing better.

I'd get him a special t-shirt --

Some people might think your post is kinda dark, but I found it hilarious (but only if the OP's son fully recuperates with no problems in the future)

How scary! Glad he is doing better. I know I have almost fallen several times while wearing crocs at WDW - it was always in the walkway areas in Epcot going to Soarin or Test Track.

I'm really glad your nephew is doing well. I'm confused though. Was he not taken to a hospital after the fall? If not whose decision was that? Vomiting in a child after a fall is always an indicator of a concussion.

EMS was called. They checked him over. He seemed to be improving so they said he had a bad concussion. They said to wake him every 2 hours when he went to bed. He seemed fine in the morning. He ate breakfast at the airport and was laughing and everything. It wasn't until they were in the car in Milwaukee that he got a bad head ache and started vomiting again. They immediately took him to Children's hospital.

So his parents chose not to have him checked out by a doctor. Bet they won't make that mistake again. EMTs are very good at what they're trained to do but they aren't diagnosticians. Hopefully others can learn from this. I'm really glad your nephew is doing so well.

We found the painted concrete that was just outside our rooms at POFQ to be very slippery when wet, and the tiles on the flooring inside Yak & Yeti to be extremely slippery. Also had a lady fall while running to the bus one morning. She hit her head and came onto the bus crying. She was ok, but it was scary and painful for her at first.

Wow, "bet they won't make that mistake again"? I agree others can learn from this, that's what the post is about. I found your comment insensitive.

I didn't think that EMT's actually ever diagnose? Maybe they said that he 'could' have a bad concussion.

Either way, I'm glad that he's doing well!

So you think they'll make the same mistake again? :confused3 Or you just don't like someone pointing out the obvious?

My daughter has had two bad concussions. After the first one (skating on a pond), we took her to the ER on the way home, but we almost didn't because it was "out of the way". She had thrown up though, and said her head hurt, so we thought it would be better to be safe than sorry. Yes, she had a moderate concussion, had to wake her up every few hours, etc. But we almost didn't take her there, and when we heard the word 'moderate' we knew we had made the right choice.

A decade later, she got a second concussion playing rugby. My mother was driving her home from the game, (we did not attend) and called me to say that my daughter was complaining of a headache and she might have a concussion. I told my mom to drive her to the nearest ER, and my mom argued with me that she wanted to drive her home to me and then I could take her?!? Luckily she did go right to the ER, more serious concussion, with multiple follow-up appointments before shew as cleared to play again.

So, yes, I agree, the parents won't make that mistake again, and I'm glad your nephew is doing better. I hope he makes a full, rapid recovery.

And that is why you don't run when it's wet. Even running when it's not wet is a bad idea, because the ground isn't always completely flat, plus there are so many children/strollers/people not paying attention that you're almost guaranteed to smack into/over something if you run.

I'm surprised EMS didn't insist on transporting him to the hospital for testing. You don't mess around with concussions. Hasn't the NFL thing taught us anything?

I hope your nephew continues to do well today.

Update-he is doing better than the docs expected. They kept him in ICU for an extra day. He is talking and walking a little. The doc told his parents he shouldn't be alive, they would have expected him to only last about four hours after such an injury. The said he he is a miracle boy. He has not cried, complained or fussed once. Thank you all for your well wishes and prayers.

Glad to hear the encouraging update - still keeping him in our prayers. And I hope you and your family are doing ok too. Something like this is scary for the entire family - especially when you're in different states. Sending good thoughts your way also!

OP, thanks for keeping us updated, and we are thankfull he seems to be recovering ok.

I remember walking down the ramp to the ferry boat from the TTC while pushing DD in her wheelchair. The slope looked slippery so I was taking my time, and being extra carefull. Suddenly, I ended up flat on my back, with the oxygen on top of me, wheelchair on top of the oxygen and DD at the top of the heap. Fortunately, I nor DD was injured, but even while being as carefull as I could it happened in the blink of an eye.

So glad to hear that he's doing better. Prayers and love sent his way, and to the man in WDW now who hurt his foot. I pray for a speedy and complete recovery for both.

That is awful! I am so glad that he is doing so well under the circumstances. Prayers for continued recovery.
