Warning a SPOLIER POST! At Worlds End: comments, questions??

"Filming finished on January 10, 2007 in Molokai,[16] and the first assembly cut was three hours.[17] Twenty minutes were removed, not including end credits, though producer Jerry Bruckheimer maintained that the long running time was needed to make the final battle work in terms of build-up.[18] One scene cut explained that if Calypso had greeted Davy Jones after his ten years of ferrying dead souls, then he would have been freed of his duty: in turn, Will is freed of his captaincy as Elizabeth remains faithful to him ten years later.[19]"

I like this ending...but I think it's almost more fun NOT to have an answer to the ending. That way you keep reliving it and more and more possiblities surface. Letting your imagination run wild...isn't that what Walt would appreciate? It was a great movie and I'm trying to see it again this week pirate:

I'm not totally sure I agree with the concept that Will is released from the curse. How do you explain the flash of green when he leaves Elizabeth on the beach after their romantic enounter? As the FD sails away into the sunset, there's a flash of green and the ship disappears.

Ten years later, when her and her son are waiting on the cliff, we see the flash of green and the FD appears.

The discussion is made during the movie that the flash of green indicates a soul being released. But the flash occurs when he leaves her AND when he returns. Confusing......:confused3

On the other hand, I'm also HOPING for a POC4!!!

I'm thinking that the flash of green at his departure IS the release of a soul... the soul of the baby INTO life.

OK, I have something else that doesn't quite make sense. Davey Jones cut out his heart AFTER Calypso didn't show up, not when he was made captain of the FD. He says in POTC 2 that he cut it out because he was so heartbroken that he didnt' want it anymore, or something like that. So why did Will have to have his heart cut out to become captain? pirate:

It was Englsih. We have subtitles with it, an dit was translated, but can't remember what she said. But she definitely said something in English. IF I go back to watch it, I'll write it down.

Ooh, many thanks in advance if you do go see it again! I was trying to lip-read (which I'm not good at, unless it's really obvious), and it almost looked to me like she was about to drop a couple of f-bombs once she really got worked up!

I watched POTC1 last night and noticed something--as POTC1 opens, the first line of dialogue is Elizabeth singing "yo ho yo ho" etc. As POTC3 closes, the last line of dialogue is Will Jr. singing the same song.

...and the last line of dialogue in POTC1 is Jack singing it, too. I remember from the commentary on the CotBP DVD (the one with Gore & Johnny) that they liked how it'd come full circle, that the movie both opened and closed with lines from that song, which in turn led back to the ride that inspired the movie.

I just love director's commentaries. I can't WAIT till this one comes out on DVD!!!

I had the same question and I discussed it with my fiance. She came up with a plausible explanation. She thinks that after Davy cut his heart out, Calypso made it part of the "ritual" of becoming captain of the Dutchman. You have to have your heart removed. :confused3

I think that he knew about the pirate lords and the pieces of eight and knew that once they started singing, that meant that they would all be summoned to come together. And then later when Barbossa told Sao Feng that the pirate lords need to come together he threw him the coin and it was almost as if he was listening to it and Barbossa said, "The song has been sung."

I think the song had something to do about Calypso as well. Like the pirates knew they had her to use if they ever had to rally together. I've been listening to the soundtrack all day (which is fantastic, btw), and the lyrics to "Hoist the Colors" seem to fit when it refers to the Queen. Only part of it is on the soundtrack, but I found the rest of the lyrics:

The King and his men stole the queen from her bed
And bound her in her bones
The seas be ours, and by the powers
Where we will, we'll roam
Yo-ho, haul together
Hoist the colors high
Heave-ho, theives and beggars
Never say we die

Some men have died
and some are alive
and others sail on the sea
– with the keys to the cage…
and the Devil to pay
we lay to Fiddler’s Green!

The bell has been raised
from it’s watery grave…
Do you hear it’s sepulchral tone?
We are a call to all,
pay head the squall
and turn your sail toward home!

Yo, ho, haul together,
hoist the Colors high…
Heave ho, thieves and beggars,
never say we die.

So Will's heart just magically goes back into his body? Of course a giant women did turn to crabs and all.......but just asking, lol.

Well, the way I understand it, Will is still "dead", or "undead" or whatever. So he doesn't need to get the heart back into his chest. He's only free from the curse of captaining the Dutchman and not being able to set foot on land except once every ten years. He doesn't actually come back to life.

So does he never get old while Elizabeth and their son age? Weird! A immortal Will Turner though........nice!

Now I'm ticked that they didn't record the rest of that song. >_< I love the part that's on the soundtrack and I SO want to hear the rest.

I've had that song stuck in my head all day long! I don't know if anyone else cares about this stuff, but there was a lot of interesting info re. this song (and others) in the liner notes for the AWE soundtrack. For "Hoist the Colours"-- apparently, it was written before they'd even started work on the score for DMC. The music was written by Gore Verbinski (director) & Hans Zimmer, and Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio (the film's writers) wrote the lyrics. An early version of the song was recorded in Zimmer's studio and featured Keira Knightley, Kevin McNally, and Hans' wife Suzanne. Mark Wherry, who wrote the liner notes, said about that night, "I remember there was wine that evening. I don't remember much else." And the version that was used in the film is an actual recording of the actors playing the pirates from that scene, recorded both individually and as a group, which I thought was pretty cool.

Yeah, I thought it was amazing how they wrote the song before they even filmed DMC! It's like, wow. As for the song... I can't stop singing it. Now I have to figure out the other verses and add them. :rolleyes1

So, was Keira actually singing in her first scene in the movie or was she lip synching? It looked to me like she was lip synching :confused3

That is interesting (or to quote Jack, "now that's interesting!" pirate: ). I downloaded the soundtrack on iTunes, so I didn't get to see the liner notes.

I hope they do a commentary track for the DVD, just to explain it all a little better!

It were no f-bombs. I really can't remember what she said (I'm so bad with details), but it was something she had said before also...

Now I have a reason to go see it again!
