Warning a SPOLIER POST! At Worlds End: comments, questions??

First, I loved the audio from the ride when they go over the waterfall.
Secondly, did Jacks father look like the pirate from the ride.. you know, the part that Barbosa now replaced? I think it did exactly!!
I didn't really like the huge Tia Dalma

I agree on all 3! I thought Keith Richards looked exactly like the pirate from the ride! & I also loved the audio from the ride, the rest of my family who were with me didn't get it, but I sure did! :rotfl:

For what it's worth-I think they left the ending kind of vague on purpose. I am kind of leaning toward the "Will is released from the curse" group, based on the flash of green light at the end...Give us POTC 4!!!!

But there was also a flash of green light when he left after their time on the beach at the end of the movie before the credits. (which resulted in their child). If this is the case, who was released then?

What movie viewers need to realize is that the movies are changing these days. Yes Disney maybe a family oriented company, but everyone should expect these changes. Take Harry Potter for example. Harry Potter started off as a childerns book. Now, the movies started off being child friendly. But starting with Goblet of Fire, you could see the adult changes come into play. The 5th upcoming movie, isnt gonna be any different, and for those who have read the 5th book, you will know that there wont be much child friendly content. When they first started talking about the 5th Harry Potter movie, they werent sure if they should rate it PG-13 or R. But the official rating is PG-13. But dont expect that to last through the 6th and 7th movies. The movies get more adult action content and less child friendly and the movies get darker which will lead into a darker rading, R. Same goes for Pirates. Just like Warner Bros, Disney knows that the Pirates movies are starting to get more popular with adults then kids. Why do you think you see most adults at the Harry Potter movies and Pirates 3 movie then kids. When I went and saw Pirates 3, there were only 2 kids out of the entire theater and the whole theater was packed. Not sold out, but packed. Same thing for when I went and saw Spider-Man 3. Another good example is video games. Back in the day, it used to be just kids playing. Now days, there are more adults playing the games then kids are. The whole entertainment industry is changing, so therefor we need to change our expectations as well. When I go to see the 5th Harry Potter movie, Im expecting a very dark movie. Just like with Pirates. I knew what the movie was gonna be about and expected for the Pirate movies to have a dark side as well.

I don't know, but I feel like I'm the odd woman out here out of all these posts!

My DH and I did not enjoy it as much as we thought we would. There was way more violent scenes (the woman getting shot point-blank in the forehead was pretty gruesome) that were pretty explicit. There was way more inuendos and a pretty provocative scene between Will and Elizabeth on the island. We just were not expecting this from Disney, and from the first two films it wasn't apparent there would be these added "features."

We watched it with our two DD's, 11 and 12 and they actually turned their heads at some of the scenes...without us prompting them! I know, it's rated PG13, but really, so were the other two. And it's DISNEY and it's pitched at being a "family" movie to boot.

I guess if we took our expectations down a bit, and considered it a true PG13 we would've enjoyed it more. Maybe we need to watch it again to appreciate all the other stuff, too. Believe me, we're all Pirates fans and LOVE Disney, so I hate to post this thread. But, I'm wondering if there are any others out there who didn't just LOVE this movie??

Plus adults have the $$$, please them, bring in the dollars. =o)

Also many youth have grown up on HP and are now out on their own and thus appealing to an older crowd will bring them back for more. HP 1 came out in 01, six years ago. If you were say 13 or 14 when it came out you'd be 20 now and working and able to pay for you own outtings...therefore rather than trying to reel in a whole new audience why not countinue with the one you started with? Parents will still bring their kids but the movie won't lose it's adult audience either.

I saw the movie again last night. It was even better the second time. Plus I saw it in a better theater too.:yay: I saw it first in a small theater near my house, then at the premiere theaters in downtown Tampa. The premiere theaters have large leather seats, free popcorn, and serve alcohol. Yes, rum too. The only thing is that it cost a little more for your ticket, but it’s worth it when you are seeing such a long movie like pirates.

Wow, Disneyguy77, free popcorn and they serve drinks...I bet it was better this time around...lol. J/K.

I guess it can work because NOTHING in this movie is realistic! There were so many times when I thought to myself, "Well, now how is that possible?" I guess you just have to suspend your reality when your watching a movie about an octopus man who had his heart cut out and is supposed to be transporting the dead because his goddess of the sea lover betrayed him. ;) pirate:

Well said! I got a kick out of your post! :rotfl: :rotfl:

Another question....if Elizabeth is to be king pirate lord, wouldn't she have to be at sea? And if she is Singapore's pirate lord than wouldn't she have to reside in Singapore? Or did her titles get dropped?

I so need to go see this movie again. I have a feeling they have been answered already.

Well, I saw P3 yesterday and I have to say I liked it alot more than I thought I would. I loved P1, but didn't really care for P2, so I went to P3 with lowered expectations, but was pleasantly surprised.

I have to say one of my favorite scenes was when Will got stabbed...I hated that he got killed, but I
LOVED Captain Jack's reaction! I love Capt. Jack for many reasons, but his reaction to Will's death put me over the top for him. Did you see his face when he and Elizabeth were "parachuting" away from Will and the ship? He looked positively heartbroken.

I have to take the side of those that think Will is coming back to Elizabeth after his 10 years and the curse being broken. Why put in the scene with Davy Jones and Calypso...about her not showing up for him after his 10 years to free him otherwise?

Does anyone know....what was the thinking/reason of putting that last scene with Elizabeth and her son on the island at the VERY end? I can see not putting it just at the end of the movie, but at the very end of the credits? I almost couldn't see it because there were 3 usher guys in front of us sweeping and cleaning up the seats and aisles! I bet they hate all of us sitting in there til the very very end! :rotfl:

I loved the movie!!! I loved it from beginning to end. I thought it was very well done and I can't wait to go see it again.

I saw it yesterday and I *hated* it. I really did.

I thought the thing with the multiple Jack Sparrows was really stupid. I can understand he was hallucinating when he was in the locker, but to have them keep reappearing throughout was dumb.

I was confused through most of it... mainly trying to figure out the deals that Jack and Will were negotiating with the English guy throughout.

I don't know-- it was too long and didn't really have the spirit of fun that the others did.

:confused3

Did anyone else notice that kissing Elizabeth results in the death of the kisser? Jack, Norrington, Will, Chow Yun Fat's character...

I'm still bitter about that, incidentally.

Anyway, I loved the movie. The funny thing is everyone keeps talking about the actual audio clip that is in the movie, but no one has mentioned Barbosa's qoute. Barbosa says the line from the ride speil just before you go down the waterfall hill "...There be rough waters ahead...etc", then they go over the waterfall in the movie and the actual ride audio kicks in... Hubby smacked me and started laughing when Barbosa started the whole thing.

I noticed, and I absolutely loved it! It was way cool! I was like, hey, it's the drop from the ride!

Tia Dalma (Calypso) being Davey's lady was evident in POTC II. She had the identical heart with claws pendant/music box that Davey also owned.

Also, in POTC II, Bootstrap gave Will his dagger. Will held it up and promised his father that he would would use it to stab the heart of Davey Jones. (not those exact words)
Here's my question: **Color changed in case you do not want the spoiler - highlight to view**
When Jack Sparrow used Will's hand to stab the heart of Davey Jones in POTC III, why didn't the script call for him to use that dagger? True, Bootstrap used it after Will's death to replace Davey's heart, but I think the consistency of the storyline would have been nice.
Other thoughts?

Yep, I noticed the DJ/TD connection in DMC. :thumbsup2 As to your spoiler question, I think since Jack had the broken sword in his hand, it was the most logical choice to use that, and the easiest to access.

I think that he knew about the pirate lords and the pieces of eight and knew that once they started singing, that meant that they would all be summoned to come together. And then later when Barbossa told Sao Feng that the pirate lords need to come together he threw him the coin and it was almost as if he was listening to it and Barbossa said, "The song has been sung."

That's how I saw it, though I don't know how Beckett knew of this?

At one point, Sao Feng referred to Elizabeth as Calypso. It made me think that throughout the movie that she would replace Tia Dalma as Calypso and that Will would replace Davey Jones.

Also, DH and I have a disagreement. How did Elizabeth's father die? DH says Lord Cutler had him killed. I said that Lord Cutler showed him the contents of the chest with Davy Jones' heart and asked him to stab it, and by doing so sealed his own fate. I do remember seeing Elizabeth's father looking at the contents of the chest.

Well, I never thought she would replace Calypso; she's not the goddess type, but perhaps she is the Calypso to Will's Davy Jones, the one he loves so much that if she rejected him he wouldn't be able to live with the pain.

It was my understanding that Lord Beckett did have Governor Swann killed, because Governor Swann knew about the heart and was planning to stab it to be rid of Davy Jones.... Don't know if I understood it right or not.

Very cool that Will was stabbed with the very sword he crafted for Governor Swann to present to Norrington in POTC1.

The fact that Ragetti's fake eye was Barbossa's piece of eight/nine is really funny; so much happened to that fake eye..fork in it...chasing it on the deck...who knew it was so important.

Loved the "colors" of Jack's flag at the end with the red sparrow on it and the Jack adornments on the skull.

My sister noticed that the face on the music box necklace is also carved into the inside of the Flying Dutchman (shown near the end when Will is talking to his father on the deck).

I think the scene with Elizabeth trying to get her father on the ship was so heart wrenching; she did a great acting job.

I liked the way it ended...I cannot complain.

Poor Norrington..may he rest in peace.

I can go on and on...but I won't...I want to see it again and again!!!!

Same on all counts! :thumbsup2

I didn't think about that...WHY didn't I think about that... He might have learned the song from her. Since she sung it growing up herself.

I just assumed she stayed on the island for ten years...but she is the Pirate King now...so guess that couldn't be possible??? Who knows...

There has been speculation that all three of these movies have been Elizabeth telling young Will about his father. :)

Maybe those of you who know more about some of this can help my DH and I. When Beckett stated in POTC2 "we've both made our mark on each other" talking about Jack and the "P" burned on his wrist...and it is eluded to in POTC3; what mark did Jack leave on him? Did we miss it? They seem to have a longer history than is explained. Anyone have any ideas? Info? Not that this is vitally important, but we are curious none the less.

Waiting to see POTC3 again pirate:

Hope it beats Spidey 3!!!!

That was the one thing I was so looking forward to finding out, and after two viewings I still can't find any reference to any mark left on Beckett by Jack. :confused3

I enjoyed the complicity of this movie! It made me think and keep track. This movie was by far the best of the three. It had enough special effects without overdoing it, it had just the right amount of action, and it left room open for another story concerning the "Fountain of Youth". I was so pleased with this movie! I was hearing so many bad reviews about it that I was getting depressed, I was so happy that it turned out so brilliant! The music was amazing and the story ending was perfect.

I agree completely! I don't get why people want a simple plot? A complex plot is so much more rewarding. I get the shivers whenever I listen to the soundtrack for this film, especially the track titled "What Shall We Die For" which was played over Elizabeth's rallying speech after the parlay.

Putting it into greater perspective, most movies are unrealistic.
  • Being bit by a spider will not give you spidey powers.
  • Being born with an X-gene will not allow you to conjure a storm, regenerate or attract metal.
  • Kissing a beast will not make him a prince.
  • Sleeping on a pea under a stack of mattresses will not give you a bad night's sleep.
  • There is no kryptonite that will allow you to fly and make you strong.
  • There are no such thing as Ogres.
  • There is no such thing as the perfect man.
  • There is no school of magic where you survive a curse learn to cast spells from an old man.

You get my point.... ;)

Movies are fantasy - that is why we go see them and love them.

MTE! My family always wants reality when they go to movies, I'm like WTH?? :confused3 They're always like "this could never happen", "what's with that, it's impossible". I'm like DUH, it's FANTASY. It's not SUPPOSED to be realistic!

Another question....if Elizabeth is to be king pirate lord, wouldn't she have to be at sea? And if she is Singapore's pirate lord than wouldn't she have to reside in Singapore? Or did her titles get dropped?

The first time I saw the movie, it took me until just before the battle was over for me to finally be able to feel my hands and breathe normally after Will was killed. It was so unexpected for me. And just the fact that Jack finally did the right, unselfish thing like I always knew he could, it just makes me love that scene.

As for why they put the end scene at the end... Who knows? So that everyone would be confused if they didn't see it?

I think that they did it for the extra $$$ they'd get when all the die-hard fans realized they'd missed something and had to go back and see it again. I've seen at least a dozen posts here on the DIS saying that the poster would see it again because they missed the after-credit clip.

It's all about the money.

I kind of thought that when they released Calypso the council was over. It be a lord you had to have a"piece of eight" to pass down. All have been distroyed when Calypso was released. I don't know what the other two council meetings were about. The first imprisioned Calypso.

There's been a pattern of the POTC movies having Easter eggs after the credits, so I know I was planning on staying after the credits for this one even before reading here that there was definitely something to see. :) The past Easter eggs have given a clue as to the premise (or part of it) of the following movie, so maybe that's what they were going for here. *crosses fingers*

That's a good thought! :goodvibes

Why have an additional scene after the credits roll?

I'd like to think it's a way to reward us film geeks who sit through the credits of all films. I like to hear the music and let the movie sink in a bit. If there's a scene after that, it's a lovely bonus. :)

I have no idea. I didn't see any references to this at all.

No references??? The whole scene with Sao Feng....when he died he made Elizabeth captain of his ship and gave her his piece of eight, which intitled her to be Pirate Lord of Singapore. Then at the gathering of the brethren she is appointed King of the Pirate Lords, thanks to Jack.

So how does this tie in to the end of the story with her staying on land?

Same here! I always watch the credits. :)

Sorry, I meant I saw no references to whether she stays Pirate King or lets her title go, etc.
