Warning a SPOLIER POST! At Worlds End: comments, questions??

The fight scene where Jack and Davy Jones were up there fighting, question - u have 2 ships colliding together plus tilting in the whirlpool, Jack is holding the cheat in 1 arm and a sword in another, how did those 2 keep their balance? Seemed unrealistic but really cool!

I guess it can work because NOTHING in this movie is realistic! There were so many times when I thought to myself, "Well, now how is that possible?" I guess you just have to suspend your reality when your watching a movie about an octopus man who had his heart cut out and is supposed to be transporting the dead because his goddess of the sea lover betrayed him. ;) pirate:

Did anyone notice that there are no moms in the movies? Elizabeth only has Govenor Swann, Will only has Bootstrap, and Jack only has Teague. Where are the mothers at?? Just a little random tidbit I thought was interesting. Oh and none of them have siblings either....that we know of...hmmm...

Well unless you call that scene with the shrunken head on a rope Jack's mother....EWWW!!

That's why they are all Pirates. They have no good role models:rotfl:

Lots of Dsiney films have no moms though-Snow White, Cinderella only had an evil stepmother, Ariel etc, etc.
But, aye, Pirates aren't exactly known to come from stable family environments.:rotfl:

Jack wasn't in love with anyone though so maybe he would stay there forever.

What's with the coins? Who had them all and how did they end up in one place in that one scene??:confused3

I'm assuming you're asking about the actual coins (pieces of eight) that were laid out next to a map in Beckett's cabin on the Endeavour. He had the piece dropped by the little boy early on in the movie while all the "pirates" were being hanged. I think he assumed that the "pieces of eight" used by the pirate lords were exactly that, just like Elizabeth did. He thought that if he laid out nine pieces of eight, he'd trick Jack into thinking that the pirate lords were dead, but was unaware that not only was Jack a pirate lord, but that the pieces of eight they used weren't pieces of eight at all!

Did anyone else notice that kissing Elizabeth results in the death of the kisser? Jack, Norrington, Will, Chow Yun Fat's character...

I think that just carries on the Disney Tradition of no Moms. Ariel, Bambi (well, he had her for a while....), Cinderella, Belle, Nemo, etc.....

Ha! Never thought of that one either. What is she Poison Ivy!!!:rotfl:

I don't know, but I feel like I'm the odd woman out here out of all these posts!

My DH and I did not enjoy it as much as we thought we would. There was way more violent scenes (the woman getting shot point-blank in the forehead was pretty gruesome) that were pretty explicit. There was way more inuendos and a pretty provocative scene between Will and Elizabeth on the island. We just were not expecting this from Disney, and from the first two films it wasn't apparent there would be these added "features."

We watched it with our two DD's, 11 and 12 and they actually turned their heads at some of the scenes...without us prompting them! I know, it's rated PG13, but really, so were the other two. And it's DISNEY and it's pitched at being a "family" movie to boot.

I guess if we took our expectations down a bit, and considered it a true PG13 we would've enjoyed it more. Maybe we need to watch it again to appreciate all the other stuff, too. Believe me, we're all Pirates fans and LOVE Disney, so I hate to post this thread. But, I'm wondering if there are any others out there who didn't just LOVE this movie??
I kind of agree. While it was ok for DH and I to watch I turned to my husband after only 30 min. of the movie and told him that our DS6 would not be watching this one. He has seen POC 1&2. It was way to explicit for him.

Putting it into greater perspective, most movies are unrealistic.
  • Being bit by a spider will not give you spidey powers.
  • Being born with an X-gene will not allow you to conjure a storm, regenerate or attract metal.
  • Kissing a beast will not make him a prince.
  • Sleeping on a pea under a stack of mattresses will not give you a bad night's sleep.
  • There is no kryptonite that will allow you to fly and make you strong.
  • There are no such thing as Ogres.
  • There is no such thing as the perfect man.
  • There is no school of magic where you survive a curse learn to cast spells from an old man.

You get my point.... ;)

Movies are fantasy - that is why we go see them and love them.

I guess I never realized it before.....I can only think of two Disney animated characters that have had exisiting mothers, Aurora and Mulan. All others seem to have no existing mother. Lilo, Pocahantas, Chicken Little, Jasmine, plus all the others previously mentioned. Makes me kinda curious.:scratchin

I liked this movie because it took some risks-meaning that it WAS darker than the other two and had this offbeat tone to it. This is just my opinion, but I don't think it was all that violent and in the sexy scene between Elizabeth and Will, most of it is implied. I wouldn't have a problem taking someone 10 and up to go see it..but in my day, kids weren't sheltered like they are now(I vividly remember being taken to see Jaws when it came out-I was 4)and plus, they're pirates. Pirates weren't the most cuddly people. Just my 2 cents.

For what it's worth-I think they left the ending kind of vague on purpose. I am kind of leaning toward the "Will is released from the curse" group, based on the flash of green light at the end...Give us POTC 4!!!!

You must have never met my husband before.;)
