Warning a SPOLIER POST! At Worlds End: comments, questions??

I was under the impression that the curse was only temporary...it was for 10yrs and if Davy Jones or Will found true love and that love was faithful during those years, than the curse would be lifted otherwise the curse would remain and they would only be allowed to go to shore once every 10yrs. Thats why Davy Jones was angry with Calypso, she led him to believe that he would only be cursed for 10yrs and that she would wait for him...when she didnt, he got mad at her and told the pirate lords how to trap her in human form. Since Elizabeth waited for Will, he was no longer under the curse. And the green light that flashed when Will returned signified that his soul was returning. Anyone else see it that way??:)

So glad you started this thread :thumbsup2

My sister and I saw the movie Thursday night and tonight. Really liked it the first time...LOVED IT...the second time...understood it more; noticed more, etc.

My thoughts/observations....

Very cool that Will was stabbed with the very sword he crafted for Governor Swann to present to Norrington in POTC1.

The fact that Ragetti's fake eye was Barbossa's piece of eight/nine is really funny; so much happened to that fake eye..fork in it...chasing it on the deck...who knew it was so important.

Loved the "colors" of Jack's flag at the end with the red sparrow on it and the Jack adornments on the skull.

My sister noticed that the face on the music box necklace is also carved into the inside of the Flying Dutchman (shown near the end when Will is talking to his father on the deck).

I think the scene with Elizabeth trying to get her father on the ship was so heart wrenching; she did a great acting job.

I liked the way it ended...I cannot complain.

Poor Norrington..may he rest in peace.

I can go on and on...but I won't...I want to see it again and again!!!!

I am also a little unclear on this...I thought the same way you did..but then who would take over?..Anybody else have any info on this?

Just why did Lord Beckett say, "Finally" when they started singing in the first scene? I feel silly asking because I have a feeling I will have to give myself a "dope slap" for asking, but it has been driving me looney all day.

I had to ask my dh the same thing!
He explained that Beckett wanted the pirates to gather. This way, it would be easier for him to destroy them and rule the seas. That's why he had installed martial law and taken all rights away --- so they would finally unite!
Yo ho!

Hmmm... so Cutler Beckett was the biggest pirate of them all, eh? He was pirating the seas from the pirates.
Funny how the we, the audience, automatically sided with the pirates (the thieves/bad guys) when Beckett might have actually been making the seas safer! HA!

Everybody who loves Jack Sparrow say "Yea-yaaa!"

This is what I was told, and the way I prefer to believe it since I like happy endings. ;) My friend sent me this quote from the writers - which had been posted on her Live Journal by someone:

'The quote from the writers I was going to share with you is: "The captain of the Flying Dutchman curse can be broken and that's why Davy Jones was so furious with Calypso. If the captain's true love is waiting for him when he comes ashore after 10 years the spell is broken and he is no longer bound to the ship - he's free to live a normal mortal life on land again. A new captain is chosen to continue the 10 year cycle. When Davy returned to shore after the first 10 years Calypso was not there to meet him. The curse was not broken and he was doomed to remain captain for eternity. SO when Will comes back after the first ten years (since Liz is waiting for him with their son) the spell is broken and Will can join his family for the rest of his life." '

I do not know where that person got that quote - but I do think that it makes sense.

Tia Dalma (Calypso) being Davey's lady was evident in POTC II. She had the identical heart with claws pendant/music box that Davey also owned.

In POTC II, Tia Dalma also tells the story about Davy Jones... and when they debate whether or not it was a woman, or the sea, that Davy had loved... Tia says both stories are true. I took that to mean that the woman Davy had loved was 'the sea' (in other words, 'Calypso'). Tia also gets into those lines about 'knowing me'... and it becomes obvious over time that all of the pirate captians have 'known' (fallen in love with) her at one time. Again, implying that she is the sea/'Calypso'... and all true sailing men love the sea. POTC III merely confirms all of that which was alluded to in POTC II.

I saw the movie Friday night and loved it! But, CoTBP will always be my favorite. I understood mostly everything, well, everything except Tia Dalma...

I had one question though. Why did the crew of the Black Pearl make Elizabeth get off the ship? Well they didn't actually make her, but they said her boat was ready.

I thought that she would stay on the ship with Jack and Barbossa. In a way it would seem to make her closer to Will.

And I loved the last scene with her and Jack, when she was leaning in for a kiss.

"Once was enough, love."

Loved it!!

You mean at the end when she got off the ship? She was going to meet Will for his one day on land.

I don't think they exactly "made" her get off the ship. They gave her transportation to the honeymoon suite! Got it? :rolleyes1

Well why didn't she go back to the Black Pearl then? I know she ended up having the kid and everything. But I don't think she knew that immediately after the "hook-up".

Maybe she did? Her little boy was singing Yo Ho and they were dressed like pirates. Maybe they still were pirates in those ten years. Who knows? pirate:

I didn't think about that...WHY didn't I think about that... He might have learned the song from her. Since she sung it growing up herself.

I just assumed she stayed on the island for ten years...but she is the Pirate King now...so guess that couldn't be possible??? Who knows...

That makes me feel so much better. It was heartbreaking when Will died. This is a dumb question, but how would he have a normal mortal life with his heart in a chest? Oh well, I guess we're not supposed to ask questions like that.......

I felt like that was the reason for the scene after the credits too...to show that, unilke Calypso, Elizabeth shows up for Will's one day on land and Will will continue to do his job and not end up like Davey Jones. pirate:

Will's job was done. He was returning to Elizabeth and his son. Another poster pointed me in the right direction.....

From Wikipedia:
After the credits, in a scene captioned "Ten Years Later," a young boy approximately ten years of age is seen singing "A Pirates Life for Me" as Elizabeth walks behind him. It is implied that this is the child of Will and Elizabeth. The sun sets followed by a green flash and Will, on the mast of The Dutchman, sails towards the shore. According to the film's writers, the curse of The Dutchman is broken if, after the ten years, the captain's lover reamains faithful. The final post-credit scene suggests that Will can now return to land, as Elizabeth has remained faithful. The green flash, which symbolises a soul returning from the dead, supports this theory. Apparently, a scene of dialogue between Tia Dalma/Calypso and Davy Jones, which explained this, was cut from the film, leading to confusion about the ending.

Maybe those of you who know more about some of this can help my DH and I. When Beckett stated in POTC2 "we've both made our mark on each other" talking about Jack and the "P" burned on his wrist...and it is eluded to in POTC3; what mark did Jack leave on him? Did we miss it? They seem to have a longer history than is explained. Anyone have any ideas? Info? Not that this is vitally important, but we are curious none the less.

Waiting to see POTC3 again pirate:

Hope it beats Spidey 3!!!!

Maybe the next one will be a prequel! pirate:

I enjoyed the complicity of this movie! It made me think and keep track. This movie was by far the best of the three. It had enough special effects without overdoing it, it had just the right amount of action, and it left room open for another story concerning the "Fountain of Youth". I was so pleased with this movie! I was hearing so many bad reviews about it that I was getting depressed, I was so happy that it turned out so brilliant! The music was amazing and the story ending was perfect.

I was so PO'd at how the movie ended (Will's fate) that when my parents asked if I wanted to stay for the credits, I said no...I just wanted to get out of that theatre! I was distressed about the movie all evening and even into today. Having read all the PPs, I feel better about the movie now and will go back and see it for a second time and will STAY through the credits. pirate:

^Oh, please do go back and stay for after the credits...I was ticked as can be until I figured it all out!

I read in another post that the scene after the credits can be found on youtube.com. For the life of me, I can't find it! Does anyone have the link to the scene? TIA! pirate:
