this is a thread to discuss the war in Iraq. post if you are for it or against it and why. im for the war and heres why:
because if we pull our troops out of Iraq, Iraq will turn into a veitnam. in veitnam we pulled our troops out to early and look at veitnam now, a communistic country. if we pull our troops out now that is what might happen to Iraq. there government is to weak to be left alone, and we need to stay in there to help build it up. if i think of anything else i will add

I'm against. It's a huge screw up on our part to go in there in the first place. But we can't just pull out willy-nilly, it will ruin their country.

What we need is a good plan on how to pull out of there, a good solid plan that won't be postponed or put off.

Btw, I do support the troops 100%. It's not their fault we're fighting a pointless war. :cool1:

i'm am againt the war but i support the troops. my step-dad is over there

we had a ligit reason to go over there. ok right now if we didnt go over there we'd be fighting a war in times square. :cool1: ;)

Iraq IS EXACTLY LIKE VEITNAM NOW!!! In both wars we had NO REASON to invade those countries. and when invading them we just made everything worse. Iraq is falling apart BECAUSE OF US!!!! Oh and please tell me the 'legit' reason for us to have gone into IRAQ.

P.s. this is a very controversial topic i wouldn't be surprised if this thread got closed soon.

If they closed this thread, the would be completely ********. And Iran is also like Iraq.

We screwed around with Iraq when we should have been targeting al qaeda in Afghanistan. I support the troops (not the actual war itself), but I also feel bad for the Iraqi people. They pretty much have no government.

I'm positive everyone can voice their opinions without putting down other's opinions or being condescending, like a couple of you were.

Technically, there was a reason for us entering the Vietnam War. The President used the Domino Theory (it pretty much says that if one country becomes communist, then others around it will become like it) as a reason for sending troops into Vietnam to support the South Vietnamese soldiers. We were practically guaranteed military success, and the nation was bolstered by our victories in Korea, and the World Wars. It seemed impossible for us to lose but we weren't really expecting their guerilla tactics to be effective. Underestimation has played a big part in both the Vietnam War & the Iraq War.

I have to agree with you on the fact that Iraq is falling apart. As much as we disliked Saddam's dictatorship, the country was actually pretty stable under him. The troops had no say in the matter, but it seems like people are intent on blaming what's happening on them... It's really cruel, actually. I am completely for pulling out the troops, but if we put a country in ruins, we ought to help it out.

i support the troops in all wars, even if i don't support the war itself.

two of my friends went last Monday to take their ASVAB. (the asvab is the test you take to enlist in the army.) My best friend is in JROTC, as well as the two guys enlisting in the guard.

they're going off to basic training next summer, then they'll finish their senior year, then they'll go off to some American base, then they'll probably go to war.

i know these boys better than most people. they're wonderful people. they're stronger than most people I've ever met, and sometimes, when i see them in uniform, i just hug them and say 'thank you'.

I thank them for being everything that I'm not strong enough to be. I couldn't survive in the army, i wouldn't make it through the first week of physical training, I couldn't handle the orders, I couldn't live with part of my job being killing someone else.

The troops that people are blaming this mess on are the same boys sitting next to me in a car, or in geometry, or the boy who is my date to the Christmas dance at school. And all i have to say is that that boy is stronger than anyone who is going to judge him for what he does.

I think that Iraq was a complete mistake (I'll give leeway for Afghanistan because they did strike first). But Iraq was just..ugh. LIVE AND LET LIVE! Yes, I realize that Communism isn't a viable long-term type of government, BUT NEITHER IS INVADING EVERY COUNTRY THAT WE DON'T LIKE! Communism has a very firm base, the ideas are solid, it just isn't practical. Iraq is such a mess right now (Vietnam was, too). We can't just pull out now because then they'd fall apart, but maybe that's what's best. Maybe they just need to settle their differences their way, even if it does lead to deaths, at least it won't be the deaths of meddlesome americans. Death is the last way I'd choose to settle a fight, but the US can't just go around imposing our beliefs on other people. This is not Manifest Destiny. We don't need to be Nationalists in this. We just need to be humans. We need to see that hey, we're messing up. Set a deadline to get our troops out and do it now. Make sure that they've got some semblance of a government before we leave completely.

All wars ever do is get people killed.

I don't think anyone is blaming this war on the troops. I fully suport our troops but I don't support Bush and his stupid war. And for vietnam, yes they might have started the war having a 'purpose' but by the end of the war no one knew what they were fighting for, no one knew why they were there. Vietnam was pointless, going into Iraq was equally as pointless. Iraq was doing great under dictatorship, just because everyone isn't like us doesn't mean we are better and they should be like us. We have our own problems in our own country which should be solved first before we go trying to 'help' other countries. but don't worry Bush will be out of here in a year and hopefully we can elect a better president

as sad as it is, i think thats true. i don't support war. i fully believe that all problems can be solved by discussion. i don't have to hit you to make you listen to me, and my country doesn't have to attack yours (or vice versa) to make us understand each other.

::yes::

but if you think about we first attacked afghanistan after 9/11. we then went to iraq on reports of taliban and insugents so we went there to take them out. also if we never did anything about 9/11 the war might have been brought to america. just my opinion

um actually we went into Iraq because they were being ruled by a dictator and they were not using democracy. And because Bush is obsessed with oil. but we were told that they had weapons of mass distruction, which turned out to be a lie.

Just two points you may want to consider

1. Didn't the people in Iraq kill Saddam?????

2. and i dont think we went into Iraq to get oil because oil is so cheap now
