Home from K-Mart. How did everyone do? I sold 6 Xtras, but only because they had a free rebate on the top. I made everyone who came near me sneeze - even though no one was around when I sprayed the cards.

My store had a total of 11 bottles between the detergent and softener. I sold 7. I was surprised how many people were interested!

I did the Xtra event too. It was so boring that I was tempted to break MC rules. They didn't have the escape and I sold out of the 8 bottles of detergent by 12pm. Nobody wanted to hear about the detergent they just wanted scott toilet paper.

Hi! I'm a newbie MC "consumer connector" - I just got my new hire login info today. I was all excited to go online and book some events but there is nothing (zip, nada, nuthin') within 60 miles of me between 9/18 and 10/21.

Next weekend we're heading down to NC for a week and then WDW :woohoo: for the week after that and I was hoping to have some events lined up for later in the month... ah well...

How far out do they usually post events? I know the system only lets you book 2 months out, but do they usually post them a few weeks before or do they have them scheduled that far out? Is there a best time of day to check for new events?

I also got a form letter mailing about events needing workers on 9/1 and 9/2 and if we weren't heading down south I'd be there, esp. for the extra $20!

Thanks for the great thread! Although, admittedly, I haven't read all 469 pages... :surfweb:

I am also in Michigan and the same storm/tornado also hit my area...it was about 10 miles from my house when it hit in the Potterville area and then just a few blocks from my inlaws when it hit in the south side of Lansing. Thankfully no damage for either of us. I was a little worried (ok, maybe hoping it would be cancelled) about my event today because the Kmart I was at was also just a few blocks from the area of damage in Lansing but it was fine and I actually had pretty good traffic.

I sold all 9 bottles of Xtra and 1 bottle of the fabric softner that they had. People were actually pretty receptive and I had two people ready to buy a bottle when there was only one left--I was worried about a catfight!! I could have definetly sold more and according to their inventory program there should have been 6 more bottles in the store. Once I ran out I went in the back room to look but no dice. At least it wasted some time. How much fun it is to say: Smell this great detergent, I have a coupon for you, oh-no you can't buy any today we're out!

I am in Michigan too. My MIL was supposed to fly in from Erie, PA & her flight was delayed about 2 hours. She finally did make it here.

I also did the Xtra today. They had 45  bottles of the Xtra & 2 bottles of the Nice n Fluffy. I ended up selling 5 of the Xtra & both of the fabric softner.

I had a problem finding the kit. We spent 1/2 hour looking thru the receiving area. By the time we found it it was 11:15. I guess I should swipe in before I go see the manager :confused3 ? I made sure I stayed & swiped out at 4:15. Is this going to be a problem?

Where in Michigan? Are you my competiton??? :goodvibes :lmao:

I wish I had had 45 bottles of Xtra!!! Although for the first time I was able to say that I sold out of the product. I almost was able to for the Curves event last weekend but dang it no one would buy that last box of granola bars--I even pushed my clean up time kinda late to try to get it gone.

I don't think that there will be a problem with the 11:15-4:15 thing. I have done that before-stayed a few minutes later because my purchase was a few minutes late. One thing for the future-any time you are just doing a purchase to check in not for product for the demo I usually do that first before even finding the manager--especially if the store looks busy.

You just never know! Usually it seems they are about 4-5 weeks out but occasionally they are closer or further away. You just need to check really often so that you are the first one to see and grab. New ones can show up close to the event dates as others cancel them.

Good luck and welcome to the 'club'!

I did the Extra, too. I only had 5 bottles of detergent and zero Nice N Fluffy in the correct scent and size. I sold one. It was tough considering they had the bigger bottles on sale for the same price and the coupons worked for that size. I was going to count the larger size in with my beginning inventory, until I realized it wasn't the same scent. Very boring and HOT! The A/C wasn't working right.

At least, now I'm done 'till after Disney!!! :tinker: :mickeybar

This sounds like my day! People liked the scent, but the bigger bottle, different scents, were also $3.49. I explained that the smaller was the concentrated and also did 40 loads, but it's hard to convince people that bigger is not always better! I always wind up using more of the concentrated than I need to, so I guess I understand! The a/c at mine was lame too!

Glad to hear how everyone's day went yesterday. I am off to do Organic Kids Cookies and Honest Pouch drinks at ST today. DGS has promised to stop by:)

MyDizneyBoys: if I see new items start popping up I will post to this thread just in case they are countrywide. I tried tracking when I saw new events popping but they are all over the board. Also--if someone unbooks it pops back into the que right away--I know I have cancelled stuff in the middle of the day and also picked up stuff in the middle of the day. You do need to check frequently depending on your area--my area (GA) goes super fast. I've seen stuff disappear while I am checking my calendar:scared1: Not sure if we just don't get a lot of demos or if there are just soooo many MC people around here. I try to remember not all of the MC people are here on the DIS ;) I know of 3 here plus I've met at least 6 at my ST over the past few weeks.

Anyone with TMT that lives in or near KC I unbooked myself for 9/1 stateline Supertarget, go get it if you want it!

I had trouble with that too, mine had a ton of the big bottles. The registers were taking the coupons on it so I know at least 20 of these sold.

I feel better about putting a big cup of laundry detergent into the washer, it's psychological and I can't get over it lol That's the reason those sonic washing machines never sold well - you needed very little water and no detergent and people couldn't handle it, we've been programmed well.

I think I am going back to Kmart today, the had 50% off all clearance clothes and today all the rest of the clearance changes to an additional 30% off. I bought my daughter 4 Disney outfits and a Hillary Duff shirt for $12.25 yesterday.

New events at Price Chopper (grocery store) for Sept 22-23- Grape Nuts cereal.

I would LOVE for MC to put demos in Price Chopper here in MA. I think they use their own people. I've seen tables with food, but NO ONE at the tables. I've also seen tables with built-in cooking appliances.

No events listed here for them.

Well then you probably saw my sub on the TV on friday night... The back part of our sub (Salem Township) was hit by a tornado... about 50ft from our house it touched down and did structural damage to many houses, ripped of garage doors and ripped a shed out of the ground and turned it upside down.

Thankfully our house was alright (albeit our Air Conditioner got fried by lightening I would suspect).

Everyone in our family is alright. It was weird because I had an event at the target in Fenton for Yesterday (but i unbooked it a month ago for one closer to my house) and then with the tornado that devestated the community, i don't think any events were running there.

We didn't sell out of the detergent, but i did see quite a few yesterday and today :)

I'm all finished with my 8 Purina events at kmart on Cape Cod! :thumbsup2 Saturday I had company with another MC rep doing the fabric softener. She was from New Hampshire; drove 3+ hrs & staying at grandmothers. I guess its common for us people to steal Cape Cod jobs then. lol

She works for MANY other demo companies. And was saying MC is her LOWEST paying company. Makes up to $35 / hr doing some events. She does alot of alcohol events at clubs/stores/nascar & makeup events. Often gets jobs off Craigslist.

One was http://www.encorenationwide.com/. Also does food events.
Another good one was http://www.promosynthesis.com/

She's been doing just events for a few years. Supports herself & 2 kids. Claims everything on taxes since she's "self-employed".

She said that looks didn't play a part in getting alcohol events even though flirting, dressing up & limo rides where part of the job. lol Not sure about that, but she was a very pretty thin thing in her late 20's maybe. Definetly fit the part. :thumbsup2 Not something I could fit into.

I do have a friend who would be PERFECT for that job though. I might look into those companies more to see what ELSE they offer.

Glad all of the Midwesterners survived Saturday’s storms. We’d left out house around 4:20pm to meet family an hour drive away for dinner. About 10 min. into our drive, you could see dark skies ahead. Our teen daughter who has been driving since June was behind the wheel and had only drove in light showers for a few minutes until NOW. Next thing we knew it was pouring and the road was barely visible. My DH is up front with our daughter and I’m in the back with the other daughter screaming to SLOW DOWN. :scared1: I’m sure I scared her to “death”, but it was frightening. My DH’s reaction “she needs to learn to drive in this sometime”. I’m thinking but not with me in the van. Arrived at the restaurant safely and was seated close to a TV which we could see, but not hear. Our local news reporter was reporting via phone from a location in our subdivision. Couldn’t hear what she was saying, but when we arrived back home that night there was a lot of storm damage from trees falling onto roofs, etc… Our street was fine, but one street north and two east had a lot of bad damage. In fact, when the Today show was reporting on the Midwest storms this morning, the one they showed in a Col’s OH suburb was our neighborhood.

After a two week break, I opted not to do the Kmart events, I’m doing the Kraft Garden Harvest & Pepsi/Frito Lay events at Target this weekend. Three different products are involved with the Pepsi & Frito Lay event. :sad2: Looks more like a WM event than Target. For the Garden Harvest Chips Event, there are suppose to be 75 individual packages in 5 varieties to pass out. We are not to open the sample pack yet one of the questions on the report form is What variety did the consumer prefer? And, which best describes the general reaction after sampling? The only way I see you can answer those two questions is if the kit can’t be located and you have to purchase the large bags for sampling. I wonder who comes up with these questions?:confused3

So far I have six events for September. Hope to get a couple of the Salute to Savings on off-dates.

Hey GA girls a last minute demo in Calhoun just appeared. I think that's about an hour North of the city isn't it?

Job Name Nice' N Fluffy Escape & Xtra ScentSations scheduled for 08/25/2007

Event Times: 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM
Big Kmart - Store # 9625
122 Wc Bryant Pkwy
Calhoun, GA 307012624
Phone No: (706) 6250625

and offdates of Aug 26 - Aug 30

12:50--it's still there.

This went away and now it's back for Aug 28 - 30. Does MC pull stuff and then relist or did someone pick it up and then unbook? I can't do it--I have to work. But I was just curious.

Also--how do you figure the # of customers reached--the # of samples you gave away/people you actually gave the spiel to or the # of people you made eye contact with and said "hi" even if they didn't stop?

I met yet another MC person at ST on Sunday. He said we are overpopulated in our area (yet they keep hiring) and jobs are getting harder to come by. Like me, he works FT so only does MC on the weekends. He said he only has 2 jobs lined up for Sept and nothing for Oct. yet. He said he is going to have to travel further to get events. He said he thinks they pick up in the fall/winter months but he can't be sure. We discussed different ways to keep on top of the new events but didn't come up with much other than living on the pc. Maybe they should go to some sort of system where if it's your zip code or within 5 - 10 miles of you, you get "first crack" at it--say it's posted for you at least 24 hours before it goes to other "locals". At least that way you stand a chance of being able to stay "local". Although he said he knows a girl from the other side of the city that will travel all the way over to us for job! WHEW!!! That's some drive if construction is going on!!!!!!!!! And its going on EVERY weekend!!!

Oh well things went well on Sunday and I found myself with time on my hands I just mentally kept planning my Disney trip--making imaginary lists and itineraries.

Oh, and DS FINALLY proposed to his DGF (now DFiancee) Sunday. She said yes (after five years together--who couldn't have guessed that answer ;) ) So looking forward to a wedding in the next 12 - 18 months.

# of people I reached. Sometimes that's a hard one. I don't know if its right, but I answer the # of people I got ANY AMOUNT OF SPIEL OUT TO...even it its just the product name....as they continue to walk by.

If its a couple, I count them as 2. I count humans who can make purchasing decisions (based on age....). I've always wondered on some of their questions too. They aren't always really clear.
