More questions (I just can't wait for my kit). Thank you for bearing with me--I really thought I had blown the phone interview when I was asked what my goal for this job was--and I replied to meet people and have fun. My interviewer indicated--"and to promote sales" and I quickly said--If I am having fun and interacting with consumers then an increase in sales is a natural byproduct!

Is there anything I need to have on hand for some events--i.e. electric skillet, spats, ice chest, etc.?

Are all events first come or do they only let you see the ones they think you can/should do? (i.e. do more experienced demo-ers --is that a word???--see more events?)

How soon do you think an event will pop up for a newbie?

Does it pick up at the holidays?

Do you mind telling me who "the other company" is? Does it violate any ethics/employment rules to be signed up with both?

Would you mind sharing your top tips for success/running a smooth campaign?

1. Once you have a login, you indicate what special skills, appliances, etc…. you have in your profile. If you want to work events that require appliances, you should have on hand a microwave and probably a toaster oven. Those two seem to be the most popular. If you are close to a Super Target, they supply all of the equipment. Small items such as spatulas, measuring cups, etc…are usually included in your event kit.

2. Events are booked on a “first” booked basis. Experience does not come into play here.

3. Doesn’t make a difference if you’re a veteran or newbie, the events will “pop up” for everyone who qualifies. Sometimes events will show in certain areas before others and sometimes not at all.

4. Events slow WAY down at the holidays.

5. There are several demo companies. Promoworks, Sunflower Group, NCIM to name a few. Go to your local WM on the weekends to get an idea of what other companies are in your area.

6. My tip for running a smooth event - Skim this thread.

Good luck.

That's what I was afraid of--437 pages YIKES!!!

Oh well summer reading season is now anyway:goodvibes

The first 50ish pages provide the most information. From then on, you can tell when a post is "worth" reading or if it's time to move on.

Read this thread because its the ONLY training you are going to receive. ;) By the way, (not to burst your bubble), but it appears they hire everyone. We haven't had anyone not hired. And from the looks of some of the other demo people we run into in the stores....they hire EVERYONE!!!

Hello all - I am new to this thread, so I do hope I am asking this in the right area -

I am looking to make some (any!) extra money, but I am pretty much talking about from home. I know I have heard that people make money doing surveys online, but I only seem to find the ones that load you up with "spam"!

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated - I need to get my Disney fund going :tigger:

Your question would be better off posted as a new thread on the Budget Board & not buried deep into this thread that is really only visited by people who do this job.

This type of work is NOT done from home. It happens at Walmart, Kmart, Target......

Sorry, I have no other answer for your work at home question. Good luck.

As far as supplies, when you first fill out an application with MC, they ask if you have some basic items (toaster oven, toaster, small microwave, skillet, etc..) and pay you extra if you can bring it along with you to use for the demo.

Super Target usually has tables, paper goods, micros, toaster ovens, skillets, etc.. in their demo area.

Belle1962 - Don't you feel so much more prepared by reading a few pages? :) At one point, I believe there was something that stated you needed a long sleeve white or black shirt. The FAQ on their website does not state a sleeve length. If I'm in the dairy/freezer/meat section, I always wear my long sleeve shirt. Sunday it was close to 90 degrees out and I knew I wasn't going to be near a refrigerated isle, so I wore my short sleeve shirt.

Is anybody else doing the Snack Factory Pretzel Crisps at WM on the 14th, 20th, or 21st? I received an email that there was a change to the event. Along with that info, there was this sentence " A Mass Connections representative may be visiting your store, please ensure you are prepared - you may receive a bonus!" I guess that's what I get for unbooking Flat Earth Crisps for this. :rotfl: It would be nice to get a bonus, but based upon Wenpop's audit, that may not happen.

Kathy,
I think I just figured out the mystery behind the "3 participants" for your school. I just uploaded a picture from the Dasani Event and was messing around in My Profile (I think) were your name, address, etc. are listed. There's a place on that page to add your school, too. So, I did, and my school's participant number went to 3 and the total points went up. Then I logged on with SPi, added my school on the My Profile page and the total participants went to 4 and the total points went up again. I wonder if my local high school will know why or what to do with a check from MC?

This bonus/point thing for the schools is “interesting”. And the really odd part is my school district has 3 High Schools, 4 Middle, and 12 Elementary and the HS my girls go to is the only one in the district listed in the program. Between TMT & SPi, I have a combined total of 49 points. I first added my school through the “My Points” tab with SPi & TMT and yesterday the point total was 51 with 3 participants. After reading your post, I went into “My Personal Info” at both TMT & Spi and added my school and the point total went to 100 and 5 participants. I must be 4 of the 5 participants and I have a feeling that I’m 98 (49 x 2) of the 100 points. I’m going to keep an eye on the school points and see how it increases with each event I work. I too wonder if my school will know what to do with the check. There was a choice between Athletics, Booster, Drama and General funds. I selected General for right now. I’m going to pursue a choice for the Music boosters since my girls are in band.

kpauley- I had the info. for my upcoming CQ Cosmetics:

" A Mass Connections representative may be visiting your store, please ensure you are prepared - you may receive a bonus!"

Maybe something they are just adding all the time now?!

Congratulations on becoming a Consumer Connector.

July seems to be a slow month so that's possibly a reason there's nothing close to you. Also upcoming events may have already been booked. Another possiblilty is you need to update your talents/qualifications. Under the "My Portfolio" tab you can update appliances you may have or special talents/skills.

Did you apply to NCIM also or was this just a random email? I know in my area, they have way more people doing demos that MC. I do know they have to purchase their own table and I believe they are paid much less, but that's about all I know.

Good Luck.

Sorry I haven't been around here the jobs have been like a dry well in michigan.

I did the Dasani this past sunday it was a huge hit :)

The funniest thing was I had a Quesidilla event at a super Kmart 2 weekends ago.. the infamous Dr. Jack "death" Kevorkian sampled some of my quesidillas and said I was a marvelous cook... lol... Dr. Death commenting on my cooking PRICELESS!

Just booked another CQ Cosmetics for 8/10! Only one store listed so I grabbed it!:thumbsup2 That's what I'm doing again this Friday......loved those higher paying events!
