QUESTION about today's Glade Wisp Flameless Candle

I'm not sure I'm reading this right. I know we don't put the oil in the candle for the event. That's why we have scent stickers. But are we also NOT turning on the "flame" light? That's how I'm reading it. So we just plop it in the cardboard "stage"? Note: In the FAQ, it recommends not running candle without oil. :confused3

Back when we did the Glade Lightshow, I don't know if I did it wrong or not, but I did have the scent turned on. A employee complained numerous times that it was giving her a headache. I finally turned off the scent since I had filled the store with it anyway.

I tried posting this last night but we had thunderstorms & kept getting kicked off. Hope someone sees it before I leave at 10:20am EST. (4 hrs from now)

Glade Flameless Candle today is my very first event. I found the directions confusing too. It sounded at first like they wanted the "flame" on because they explained the batteries, but then the FAQ says it isn't recommended to run candle w/out oil. I guess I'll leave it off and if someone asks to see how it works I'll turn it on briefly. Of course this KMart is always empty and it is supposed to pour today, plus I'll never figure out how to assemble the shadow box, so I shouldn't have to worry about that part!!
I'm feeling VERY anxious! Have a good day to all doing events today.

OK, I'm second guessing myself now. I reread the directions and it mentions an unscented refill. Do you think we are supposed to use that and run the flame?

OK, I see that now. Step #3 -- UNscented refill bottle. If there is an unscented refill bottle in the kit, that's what I'll do then. I'll put that in & turn on the "flame".

I had only skimmed the assembly directions since I didn't have a candle in front of me. I missed that part. Thanks.

The cardboard shadow box wasn't too bad to assemble last time. It makes more sense when you have it in front of you to look at instead of just reading directions.

You'll be fine. Good luck. Smile & have fun.

My last Glade events were kind of slow, so I suppose its a good one to start with. You won't be bombarded with people wanting food samples. You get time to just talk with people if you want.

Thanks for the moral support Splash! I have four more events in the next few weeks, so I'll be glad when this one is over and I know what to expect. :)

Today I have Carnation instant breakfast drinks. I hope it goes well and there is product there waiting for me. I did not go yesterday to check.

Hope you all have successful events.:thumbsup2

Glade Flameless Candles: I sold 12 candles & 3 refills MUCH to my surprise. I didn't receive an unscented oil bottle, but I ran the candle with the light on anyway.

Want to hear something funny? Apparantly people are MORE willing to pay the sale price of $8 than pay just $4 using a coupon.

When I was setting up, I saw 2 packs of brochures. Stupid me just assumed they were all the same. Don't know why. I put out 1 pack of brochures - the $14 in coupons booklet. I sold 6 candles at $8 (sale price) in the first 1.5 hours. I WAS VERY SHOCKED at my success rate compared to the low # of people I actually talked to - especially since there was no scent. For some reason, I decided to look at the other package of brochures & realized they were Flameless Candle brochures & $4 coupons. DUH!!!! So, I taped coupons to everything. It took me another 2.5 hrs to sell 6 more candles at just $4 - with more people saying no after listening to spiel. :rotfl: :rotfl2: :confused3

I confessed to the store manager (we always talk Disney when I'm there) about the coupon blunder & she just laughed that more people were willing to pay $8 than $4. :goodvibes

Too funny!!! I only sold 2, but people were using the coupon booklet to purchase other Glade products. I ran the "flame" w/out any refill too because it looked pretty lame in the shadow box doing nothing! It was slow, but not as painful as I thought for my first time out.
I realized when I got home that the manager didn't print his name, only signed. It was totally illegible, so I called and the person on the phone gave me the name of who she thought it was. I printed that in. I hope I don't get docked if it turns out to be the wrong name! Well, I've got Soft & Fresh Monday and Tuesday but I feel ready now. Can I mail those two reports together? Thanks again for everyone's help!

LParente I would mail today event separately, and Monday and Tuesday together remember to make copies first. :thumbsup2

Splash That just proves my theory that some people will buy just about anything. Case in point people were buying the Carnation instant breakfast :confused3 When I was doing Orange juice awhile back people were complaining about the sugar content:rolleyes1

Did two events today. Sore am tired but would do it again if the opportunity presented.

First the Curves cereal and granola bars at Target. Stock was low but I sold all but 1 of each. Great coupons made it easy to sell. Went very fast although usually when I only offer dry cereal everyone wants milk--today when I had milk only like 3 people wanted it!

Then went to Kmart to do the Soft and Fresh. Wow, what a bore of an event. Most of it was that the store was DEAD but no one was particularily interested in toilet papaer and air fresheners that they cannot smell! I did sell some TP as I had a coupon to lead in with but the airwick was hard to get people to stop and listen for a minute.

Best line of the day: I was telling some man about the 'Scott Extra Soft bathroom tissue' and he said to me..."We don't use toilet paper." Yikes!!!!

My Glade Flameless Candles event was slow but I still sold 39 candles and about 10 Wisp refills! I sold every candle they had.
It helped that I had one lady buy 3, go home and try one, loved it so much she came back for 6 more at 3:45!

 :worship:

I want Kmarts that are busy. Ours are dead. No one goes there. I'm going to travel to 2 other ones this week for the first time. I'm hoping they are busier -- like the one on Cape Cod.

You mean there is such a thing as a busy Kmart? I almost feel bad doing events at the one near me because I don't think the sponsoring companies are really getting their monies worth. I present to pretty much any person who is in earshot and I spoke to about 50 people today in 4 hours. Not to mnetion how boring it is. I just have to remind my self--'you are making good money to just stand here and twiddle your thumbs' I am dreading next weekend at Kmart having people smell fabric softner. Blah!

Well the Kmart on Cape Cod is busy only because there are no Walmarts or Targets. They have a mall with lots of clothing stores but no other mass merchandising stores. Its the store they just did over. I was really surprised how busy it was. Possibly even busier than some Walmarts & Targets I go to. Tourists come in looking for everything they forgot or didn't bring. Beach chairs, towels, sunscreen, coolers, umbrellas, souveniers, fans, you name it ......I couldn't get over how many people come in to buy fishing poles & get fishing licenses too while on vacation. lol And there is a new Internet Cafe there. So, they all come in to check their email. :rotfl2: Lots of tourists & college students from Europe too buying stuff to take home.

You also get people who take the ferry over from Martha's Vineyard & Nantucket. They don't have ANY large stores. So they come over with a HUGE duffle bag, do their huge shopping & take the ferry back. To save $, they don't take their car on the ferry & just catch a taxi from ferry to Kmart & back.

Its really been interesting working there these past weekends. Its just so different than what I get at stores at home. My last weekend there will be next weekend. My 4th full weekend. 8 days. Everyones been really nice there. The managers told me they would hire me as a greeter. LOL A bit too far to commute....and less pay. But thanks. I have to set up at front of the store & they remodeled. At this point, I know where EVERYTHING is because all I've been doing is telling people where stuff is while trying to give them pet food coupons. lol

Do you find that there are certain days or times new events pop up? I check several times a day, but wonder if there is any pattern I should be aware of. I've got Scotts t.p. for the next two days. Should be exciting! :rotfl:

I only have more left that are booked..It has been really slow here lately... I guess I am glad, I have worked too much this summer and now the kids are back in school.... Now I can only work on Sunday's since the kids have football games on Sats.... Almost have enough for our cruise.... Spent more of the cruise money on bills than I thought I would.... But still have enough, I think... It's not due till Sept 10th.... Hope my checks arrive on time...
Have a great week!!!

LParente: I WISH I knew when things were going to pop!!! I feel like I spend a lot of time on the computer just checking. Although the hint a few pages back about offdates at midnight on Saturday was helpful! (None last night though)

The Demo LOD at my ST told me this weekend that we are considered a "slower ST" so a lot of the promos our store doesn't even participate in. She showed me a list of stuff for the next few weeks that I don't remember seeing at MC. I am going to cruise by the store to see if any MC people are there.

I would still like to work every other Saturday (the weekends we're not having Grandma & me day). Is there another company that might be more active in the GA area?

I know the MC stuff goes FAST! I cancelled a Cartersville one for this coming Sat (25th) this past Saturday and it was picked up within 30 minutes! WOW!!!! (I still have one Sunday --26th).

I did beef skewers this past Sat and it just wasn't my day!!! (Although I sold down to the last 3 bozes in the store) First--the MC directions are to cook for 5 - 6 minutes---nowhere does it say to thaw first. The box directions say thaw overnight and cook 15 - 16 minutes!!! So it took quite awhile for the skewers to cook from frozen. I had a lot of "kid cruisers" that I don't normally have--or haven't minded because I did kid-friendly products---pizza & uncrustables. Either kids coming by themselves or parents who clearly weren't interested and let their kids just sample. I took a perverse pleasure in giving those parents my "longer" spiel about the product--maintaining eye contact and even walking with them a few steps. I could tell they were just like "shut up lady--my kid ate I'm ready to move on" but thankfully they were too polite to just walk away, so they got the spiel. I also had the families that would ask how much longer and then hang out...I had a few groups with 6 - 8 kids in them and they would hang out waiting for the samples (which would have been all of the samples just on the kids) so I would give them the "I started these from frozen so they will take a little longer to cook" line until they would get tired and leave. I also made sure to give them the longer spiel while they were waiting. The ST was almost out of forks so I dropped my basket of them and had to go to toothpicks. I dropped my knife (thankfully had a spare on the floor with me). And halfway through the day I am informed that "yeah--our George Foreman is on it's last legs--it doesn't heat well or evenly----ummmmmm might explain why it sometimes took 30 minutes to cook the skewers!!!) Then, getting into my car--I split my skirt. I just kept thinking "well happy d*** demo day to you". (But I was laughing about it) It was just one of those days.:goodvibes

Bummer, with things as slow as they are, I have to unbook my 9/1 job.

I have to move my 75 yr old mom out of my brother's house because he is kicking her out. He now has a live-in girlfriend that wants my mom out.:sad2:
So we may move her down her, but it's not an ideal solution because I have stairs and her arthritis is getting worse.
So say some prayers for all of us here and send me some pixie dust!
I've only been back from vacation for 2 1/2 weeks, but....can I go back to WDW now? Please? I want to live in a fantasy world!
