Resort Thread Walt Disney World SWAN, DOLPHIN & SWAN RESERVE Resorts

In reference to the early entry discussion, this is from the Swan and Dolphin Facebook page:

We are currently awaiting word from Disney on the status of this. We hope to be able to participate. Stay tuned for more information on that. As soon as we know we will share. Thank you and we hope to see you soon!

"Waiting word from Disney on the status of this". Pretty telling statement. Perhaps out of the S&D hand?

ETA: or maybe they want it to come across that way...

TOTAL newbie here (who is dreaming of a Swan/ Dolphin stay for proximity!) and I’m trying to figure out where to find these great prices everyone talks about. 😅 When I look at Marriott website or even online travel deal sites, the prices I see for Swan & Dolphin are not cheaper than Disney moderates. What am I missing?

(Just got my first couple of rewards credit cards to start using points). 🎉

Thanks everyone for all the great info here.

A lot of folks have chimed in with helpful messages. If you qualify for any special group - military, senior (62+), elite with Marriott, TripleA, Annual Passholder - that helps tremendously. Just know that you WILL have to show proof when you check in

The code for AP is QWH is a Corporate Rate and you enter it after checking that one.

When you use a desktop version of Marriot's website, you can only check for one rate at a time. BUT if you use the APP you can check for multiple rates at a time.

AND you mentioned getting a rewards credit card? If it's the American Express Bonvoy card, you'll get up to $300 back in statement credits for charges at a Marriot (including Swan/Dolphin).

I’ve been wondering about rates as well. We’d like to stay at the Dolphin December 12-18th, but the nightly refundable rate for the cheapest room averages $288 (w/o tax/fees). It’s over $2100 for those six nights (with tax/fees). We don’t qualify for any of the discounts except Bonvoy. This seems much higher than what others are paying. I’ve been checking rates for the last month and they haven’t changed. The price through Disney and Marriott are the same. I thought I was booking plenty far enough in advance, and avoided the week of and week after Christmas since school is out then, but it still doesn’t seem like a great rate. Maybe the heavy bookings from October are continuing through the holiday season??? I’m wondering if it would be better to wait until Christmas 2022, but that seems so far away.

I hate to add on to the questions instead of being able to answer any. I have not been to WDW in over a decade, and we are planning on staying at the Swan next April. When I looked at booking with the government rate and then adding park passes separately, instead of just booking a whole package through Disney, doing it all through Disney was cheaper. Does that sound right?

I have very little experience with it since we've never been, but when I was looking at Swan/Dolphin for our January 2022 trip it came out to $3000 for our 6 nights, so I'd say you have a pretty good rate!

My advice is to book the refundable rate, now, and keep checking back for better rates; you can modify, without penalty, as long as it is before the stated deadline. Rates do fluctuate, up and down. Check out the AAA discount, which, I believe, offers a 25% discount; AAA annual membership is not expensive and offers many perks and discount opportunities.

I also recommend doing a flexible date search. December 12-13 is much higher, as weekends normally are.

Looked at Dolphin for June 2022 and it would be 1k more + daily fees vs POFQ I just cant justify that much of a difference especially if they dont have Disney perks

Just back ( well, last Thurs) from 7 nights at the Dolphin; quick observations:

1. Housekeeping was worse than I expected. We were told "every 4 days". Nothing on our 4th day - I called and they said "it's a holiday". I'm NOT lying - a resort hotel saying they don't clean rooms on a holiday when people are there in part BECAUSE of it??. Is that like a bar closing on St Patrick's Day so their staff can celebrate??

Worse than that, the NEXT day, still no housekeeping. I asked why not and was in effect told I needed to request it. I was NOT told that at check in.

2. Just FYI; we had two alcove suites with connecting king (FANTASTIC views) so in effect four rooms within 2 reservations. all under my name though we split the cost between 4 families. But on check in they wanted to hold $7,200 against my card!! Not a typo. $3,600 for each set.

Now I DID happen to have that much limit, but I forgot to call the credit card company and so it was declined as a potential fraud. One of the people we were traveling with used her card instead and they took it (even though she didn't call ahead either).

I get the idea I should have called ahead - but a hold of over SEVEN THOUSAND DOLLARS? I was NOT warned of that ANYTIME upon reservations or calls confirming or emails from them. Obviously it based on the room rate but still - be aware. We don't travel a whole lot compared to some (last trip 3 years ago) , but we've travelled dozens of times in the last 40 years or so, I NEVER had a company hold THAT much. Though in fairness the final bill WAS a bit more than that - it was simply a surprise.

3. Speaking of surprises, the hotel was PACKED! There was a "convention" or competition for young girls' dance teams. It looked like anywhere from 5 years old up to maybe early teens. A LOT of people all over. It didnt' impact our sleeping etc (none on our floor anyway as far as I could tell) and I will say they were all VERY respectful. No loud screaming or anything at all.

But it was almost ludicrous to see signs about social distancing and 2 people on an elevator (yeah, right!) and short staffed for housekeeping "because of the pandemic" and yet see the hotel THAT crowded. Much more crowded than our last trip 3 years ago.

And it made the lobby area essentially unusable. All the seats were taken by the kids except at the bar itself - and so the bar was standing room only. It opened at 3:30 (seemed later than last time) and Shulas and Blue Zoo and Il Milano not until 5.

4. I have to say we're thinking our next stay won't be at the Dolphin and maybe not at the Swan either. As much as we liked the rooms we had this trip and last, it's the first time the "convention aspect" of that complex played a part in making us wish we were somewhere else.

STILL - it was nice to walk to Epcot and HS. Especially when the boats shut down for the rain. (Side note - the Skyliner shut down so many times I don't see it as anything one could count on in the summer especially.)

5. BUT all that said - we were at Disney World!!!

I'm inclined to take their word on it, I don't think the person replying on Facebook would be saying what they are if they didn't have approval from higher up.

@ww52 - sorry to hear about the housekeeping issue. I know there is a massive staff shortage in this industry, but that should be driving the capacity of the hotel. Giving you the bad excuse of a holiday is wrong on so many levels, then not to come around and do the 4th day cleaning the next day... yeah I'd be ticked off too. Did they offer you any compensation?

Last line thought says it all!

Hopefully the dance groups will go back to the All-Stars when they reopen, I've been around a big national food conference, all they did was pack the convention center and the restraunts and bar, not the lobbies, not the boats, not the buses - one reason I like "adult" conventions at the SDR.

Marriott has weekly 25%-off "Bonvoy Escapes" deals which run Wednesday through Friday. Only certain hotels are included each week, but I've seen Swolphin included from time to time. It shows up on the normal reservation page, so just keep checking every week.

Not sure if that is the difference between the Dolphin and the Swan, but when we stayed at the Swan, we got housekeeping on the fourth day WITHOUT having to request it.

And by fourth day, I mean we checked in on Friday and got housekeeping Monday. I wasn't sure if it would be Monday or Tuesday and was pleasantly surprised when we came back to our room made up.

I saw the housekeeper in the hall once and asked for some more water. She gave me 6 with no issues.

Can you check AAA rates? It might be worth it to purchase a membership!

I’m Sitting in the airport right now waiting to go home, and I agree with all your statements. Housekeeping was awful!!!! I had to call for toilet paper, hunt down house keepers for towels, coffee, water and cups. I felt like it was by my new part time job to keep the room clean. The hallways were littered with garbage that people were putting out at the end of the day and dirty towels. The lobby was completely unusable due to the amount of conventions in the hotel. It was always packed full and kids lounging everywhere. The noise level was unimaginable. And that’s a lot coming from kindergarten teacher.
with that said, the staff was very friendly and accommodating. However, I’m not sure I’d stay there again

Appreciate the comments Pix13dust and Steve!

Pix - it sounds like maybe our stays overlapped. We were there Jul 1 and checked out Jul 8

EDIT - no offer of compensation but I didn't ask either. They did bring up towels etc when we asked - fairly promptly. And they did clean on the fifth day after I requested it (or was that the sixth? It all seems like one long generally fantastic time period)

The "strangest" thing about our trip? The day after Elsa passed through (overnight apparently) was the absolute BEST weather day we've ever had at WDW (we always stay in the summer except once at Christmas - when it was actually COLD!) The temps were moderate and the breeze was pleasant. No rain whatsoever - it was all around us but not at all on us day or night. Got to enjoy a few drinks around the world at Epcot with my two sons (UK, Mexico, Italy) and then the fireworks show. A great last evening there.

I didn't realize the values were closed - that explains the dance groups. I do however want to emphasize again the girls were ALL VERY polite, not at all loud or even silly (which teens and preteens have every right to be). I STRONGLY commend the parents and chaperones for that. They represented that whole activity very well in my mind.

@ww52 and @pix13dust - I do hope you'll let S/D and Marriott know - should get a survey after your stay. I find the whole housekeeping issue a huge let down as far as quality, there is a trade off where I'd be okay if the price reflects it. The trash in the hallways is a big pet peave of mine, so that's really bothersome to hear about (not the first time on this group either). Thanks again for sharing your thoughts.
