OK, saw a good price for beats headphones on Walmart website. When to the store today to see if the store had them in stock. The sales clerk price checked for me they were more expensive in store. I brought up the price on my phone and he said they couldn't do anything. That walmart doesn't price adjust against their own website. I bought them for $60 cheaper online and will pick up tomorrow.

Don't understand that.........

This happened to me at Barnes and Noble -- price for a book was $5 lower on their own website, but they wouldn't honor the price in-store. Their explanation was that it's a different business arm/budget that runs the website.

Its way more expensive to carry product in store. There is all the staffing, there is the store itself, there is the upkeep. To be competitive online, WalMart (or Barnes and Noble or Best Buy or Target) need to compete with pure play internet retailers (Amazon) which doesn't have the expenses of store upkeep. So their prices online are online prices.

Another consideration is regionality. If WalMart has a store in the Bay area, its going to be far more expensive to run in terms of real estate and labor than a store in Tulsa - so there will be a price differential there as well. The online price should be the lowest, the Bay Area store should be highest, and you should be able to buy the same thing in Tulsa for a middling price.

There are things that price is always the same - its usually the manufacturer floor prices - the manufacturer won't let you sell it for less than X or you'll lose the market development dollars.

yep....it makes no sense.

I had the same situation with an IPod touch a couple of years ago. They wouldn't price match their own website. So, I ordered it online and went back and picked it up AT THE SAME store a little while later.

So....it was in their store already and I did free store pick up for the price I ordered it on line for. Yet they wouldn't price match it up front?!!?!?!

I had a bad experience with Walmart and price matching last year. Don't advertise how easy and great your price match policy is and then give people a hard time.
Here's a tip. If you use the Walmart app, it will show you the price in local stores. It's great to find out if something is on sale instore.

My Walmart used to have the same policy. After the manager told me no. I got our my phone and placed the order online for pick up within an hour. I got an email it was available 10 minutes later. Walked to back of store and picked up.

On way out I recapped with the manager. Explained my time was worth something but even I am willing to wait 10 minutes to save $20.

Now the store will price match the site. I'm guessing I was not the first to "order from the parking lot" as he called it.

His store provided the product and staff but lost the sale. He said he'd rather just match the price.

Since then I have price matched the Walmart site at the store a few times without issue. If a cashier is new I occasionally have to ask for cashier supervisor but no big deal.

A couple of years ago I found that out when I asked to price match their price online and the man explained that they can price match other stores but not their online price. Then he asked me if I was sure I didn't see it online at another stores website. Basically, he lead me to just say I had seen it online at another store so he could give me the price. Stupid rule if you ask me. Now I just buy them online for pick up in store to get the lower price.
