Walmart parking lot??

I still think you can in the Greensboro/ Winston-Salem area

Im so happy I just had to share good news. It was just announced that my city has won the Air Force Tanker contract. It will be built on an old Air Force base that was closed down in 1964. At that time we lost 10 pct of our jobs and it was a continuation of a downward economic slide. This was the second big blow after the ship yards closed following WWII.

On a side not this is very personal to me since I am an aircraft mechanic and could not find work 20 years ago. So I went to work in public service. Now I will be able to retire from the fire department in October to return to aviation work. And finally make real money.

Our local economy is exploding at a time when the rest of the country is struggling. This big win follows the opening of several automotive factories to the north and a new Thiesen Krupp steel factory being built here right now.

This will improve life for thousands of families here and the entire southern region. Please forgive me if you happpen to work for Boeing.

Aint it funny how people think everyone in the fire service is making so much money. Everyone I know works 2 jobs.
Congratulations on your good fortune.

That sounds awesome! Good to hear... Know maybe we could spread some of that good forturne this way! I actualy don't leave that far from South Al!

Good luck this is really good news!

Hey Okgrumpy, We used to mullet fish and swim in Navare when I was a kid. We would go to the beach on 98 near the bridge. I also hunted on Eglin years ago. I lived in Pensacola before moving here.

BigDisneyDaddy, I actually posted the same thing recently how all Cops and Firefighters here work 2 or 3 jobs. I was actually working 3 jobs until my wife passed away 6 years ago. On my week days off from the station I delivered semi parts and also was in the Army National Guard. Now I just fight fires and care for my DD.

I hope nobody thought I was gloating before. I'm just so excited to know I have a good future finally. The news came at a good time. I was recently left stranded on the Captain's promotion list. It expired just as they were getting near to promoting me. I feel now like I have wasted 20 years of my life doing this job. When I retire in October I will get half of my measly annual salary of $40,000 before taxes. So you can see why its great to have a good paying industry headed here soon.

What fabulous news!! Hey, I'm in south Alabama too.... other end of the state from you, though. Good news for your area.

We got good news too last week... a Branson-like entertainment complex to be built here.... 500+ acres, water parks, resort hotels, theme parks, restaurants, shopping complexes, ampitheaters, and an RV park.... called Country Crossings, and it's spearheaded by country singer George Jones. Should bring 4000 jobs to our area when it's all said and done.... plus a brazillion tourists.

I have to say I've gotten a bit spoiled as I've gotten older and prefer to stay where I can "wet camp". I'd rather spend a few bucks...have breakfast and drive on instead of park free and then have to go in search for grub...also like a nice hot shower to start my day!!

we don't search for breakfast and i guess we kind of wet camp. we always take enough water to take showers in the morning. as for breakfast or any meals for that matter, we make it in the camper when we wish to.

we like to camp out on the drive. we have stayed at some really beautiful rest areas. i know it doesn't sound possible :scratchin . but, you would be surprised

We'll be looking for some of those beautiful rest areas to stay in! :lmao: We are going to have a quick breakfast in the camper in the mornings and then hit the road, after washing up. The mission is to get there and be quick about it. I'm not much of a car traveler, and this will be the longest trip I've ever taken in a car. God help me!!:scared1:
